1 TWO RIVERS GOLF CLUB NEWSLETTER July 2018 We had two kinds of weather in June: hot with wind and hot without wind. First up was Timber Creek early in the month. It was cooking! Fortunately, we had an early shotgun start, so we beat the worst of the heat. The format was 4-person (or sometimes 3-person) scramble. Next up on the regular schedule was Wildhawk another really hot day. This time, though, we had some breeze, which kept the heat from being too oppressive. In between these two events was a two-day event in Carson City, with our members playing Dayton Valley and Eagle Valley. Dayton Valley can get very windy, but we got a day with only light wind. Eagle Valley is a little rustic with plenty of scrub brush alongside the fairways to gobble errant shots. Following the golf at Timber Creek, the attendees enjoyed a buffet lunch at the course, complete with cake, all in celebration of the Two Rivers Golf Club s 25 th anniversary. Club President Nick Schiaretti also handed out logo bag tags to everyone. We also had cake at Wildhawk, celebrating Judy Davenport s birthday--age not disclosed! This event will have another long-drive contest, so keep those muscles loose. In August, we will be playing Darkhorse on August 11. We also have a mid- 3

4 week event at Saddle Creek scheduled for Wednesday, July 25. Mike Morrow is organizing this event; if you have played it in past years, you know how much fun this course is. NCGA QUALIFIER NEWS Last month, I reported that Brad Erway and Alan Staton had narrowly missed qualifying for the Associate Club Net Qualifier at Rancho Solano. Well, they got a reprieve: one of the qualifying teams was unable to compete in the Poppy Hills event, so Brad and Alan got the slot after all. Unfortunately, Alan had already made other plans. Substitutions were not allowed, so Brad went to Poppy Hills to join the battle alone. He did pretty good! Not a single double bogie in two days and he beat several two-person teams all on his own ball. He also had great weather and walked the course both days. Nice job, Brad. I m glad you had a good time and good golf. TRGC WEBSITE In addition to our regular website, Brett Svobodny has started a Facebook page for our club. View it under Two Rivers Golf Club. Meanwhile, James Snyder continues to update our club website to show the proposed 2018 tournament schedule and other current information, including the 2018 membership form. This is a big job; thanks, James for your work to give us a better website. Check it out when you get a chance and use it as a reference for upcoming events: RECRUITMENT AND MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL We have several new members join our club in recent weeks; I don t have the final exact numbers, but I believe that we are now near 90 members. Be sure to invite your friends, co-workers, and golf buddies from other groups to meet our club. SUNSHINE We re continuing to look for Michael Dazey to get back to golf once his health issues will let him play again. 4
