1 The Crystal Bawl September 2017 President s Message I want to thank each you for helping to make Crystal Springs Men s Golf Club one of the best Men s Clubs in the Bay Area. This year, members of our Club made the Championships or Playoffs in the Zone Championship, Senior Four-Ball, Senior Net and 12-man team events. This is quite an accomplishment for our Club. We are quickly approaching our annual election for the Board of Directors. This year we will be electing (4) Directors to serve a two-year term. The ballot will consist of existing Directors wishing to continue their work and members looking to serve on the Board. Please consider all candidates carefully and choose those whom you think can best help our Club. If you are interested in running, contact Tom O toc860@hotmail.com. Tom is this year s Nominating Committee Chairman. We will be publishing the list of nominees later this month for your consideration prior to the election. We would like to grow our membership. Please let your Directors know how we can best improve the Club and add new members. Presidents Cup July 8 Tournament Results In the 2 Man Best Ball tournament, with great course conditions, we saw some low scores. 2 Tournament of Champions July 16 It was a beautiful day at the Old Course, Half Moon Bay Golf Links. The 2017 winner of our Tournament of Champions was Bruno Ugur with 40 Stableford Points. Spieth Flight 1 st Bret Barton 38pt; 2 nd Ron Gallardo 34pt; 3 rd Andy Soss 32pt. (3-way card off) Day Flight 1 st Bruno Ugur 40pt; 2 nd Frank Brown 36pt; 3 rd Rob Harrell 33pt. Closest to the Pin Hole #3 John Akaya, 4 11 ; Hole #17 Bret Barton 2 9 Senior Invitational - August 9 Played as a 2 Man Best Ball Tournament, the winners shot - 9 and -10 to win their flights. Beatles Flight-1 st Baird and Barfield, net 62; 2 nd Tench and Marshall, net 64 Stones Flight- 1 st Sciandri and Ramirez net 63; 2 nd Maresca and Carpenter, net 69 Closest to the Pin - Hole #13 Ed Garcia 10 0 Poppy Ridge Tournament August 17 Our second away Tournament of 2017 was a Stableford Competition. Here are the results: 1 st Mike Tracy, 40pt; 2 nd David Mc Arthur 37pt; 3 rd Bret Barton 37pt. Crystal Springs Zone Team Competes in Northern California Finals Our Crystal Springs Zone finished second in the 51 st Annual NCGA Zone Championship recently at Spyglass and Poppy Hills. The team of Tim Higgins, Tom O Connor, Scott Robertson and Rik Roberts shot a combined 38 under par in the 2 Best Ball format while competing against the other 27 Zone Champions that make up the NCGA.

3 Crystal Springs Zone Team Upcoming events Our annual Club Championship starts September 9th and it is played four rounds, from the Blue tees at scratch (no handicap). We hope to field at least twelve (12) of our single digit players for this event. The remainder of players that want to play in the Tourney will play two rounds from the white or gold tees. This part of the tourney starts on Saturday, September 16, We encourage you to sign up early if you intend to play. Many of the plastic straps are starting to wear out so we have free replacement leather straps for your tags at the Pro Shop! Just ask the Pro Shop guys and they ll give you one! Bag Tag Re-order or replacements - $5 If you ve lost or misplaced your personalized Men s Club Bag Tag, or want an extra for a second bag or man cave, replacements can be ordered for $5 which cover s its cost. 5 Every Golfer Likes Birdies! - Wildlife Pictures Wanted Besides the golf, one of the other pleasures many find while playing at Crystal Springs is the wildlife and surrounding country environment. We would like to assemble a collection of pictures and identify the variety of birds seen on the golf course, along with other animals that you might happen across while paying a round.
