2 President s Report BY CHRIS MILLARD Update on catering arrangements As you know, the Club has been undertaking a request for tender process to identify and appoint a new caterer. Following an extensive evaluation of the tenders received, the Board has identified a preferred tenderer. The Club is currently in the process of negotiating the terms of the new catering contract. Once these negotiations have been finalised - which we expect will take place by the end of next week - the Board will announce the name of the Club s new caterer. At the stage, we are still on track to have our new caterer commence by mid November Our interim caterer, Darren Elmes, has been providing catering services to the Club s members over the past ten weeks or so. Unfortunately, Darren decided not to put in a tender for the permanent contract, as he wishes to pursue other opportunities in the longer term. Signing up to long term contract with the Club would have made it difficult for him pursue those opportunities. Darren has done a wonderful job, stepping in to take up the Club s catering function at short notice and for a limited time. In the ten weeks or so that Darren has been at the Club, he and his staff have provided excellent food and great service. On behalf of the Board and members of the Club, I thank Darren for the professional manner in which he has approached what has been a challenging engagement. Functions Levy In last month s report, I discussed the Board s decision to introduce a $50 functions levy (Levy) as part of the subscriptions. Our Club has always had a reputation for being a friendly and sociable Club and member functions have always been an important part of the Club s social life. Unfortunately, attendance at our functions has dropped off significantly over the last five years or so. The purpose of the Levy is to encourage members to attend at least one Club function each year. We are hopeful that this will breathe life back into our functions and that they will once again promote comradery and friendship amongst our members. No increase to annual ssubscriptions Members are reminded that with the introduction of the Functions Levy, there will be no increase to annual subscriptions, the future project or bar levies, for the financial year. How the Functions Levy will work Golfing members who are 18 years or older will pay the Levy as part of their annual subscriptions. The Levy will entitle each member to two tickets to attend the six member functions to be held during The Levy will operate in a similar way to the current Bar Levy. Just like the Bar Levy, if you do not spend it during the year, it will be forfeited. Half price tickets The current price for tickets to the Club s functions is generally $50 per person. Members paying the $50 levy will therefore be receiving two tickets for $50 - a 50% saving! At $50, the levy will cost you less than $1 a week! Number of tickets you will receive Each member paying the Levy will receive two tickets. If you wish to attend a function with a guest, the second ticket can be used by your guest. Your guest may be anyone you wish to invite, including your spouse, partner, relative or friend.

3 What the tickets cover The tickets will cover the cost of the meal, entertainment and some drinks, at the function attended. Generally, the cost of function tickets includes two bottles of wine for each table. Additional drinks, such as beer, spirits, or extra bottles of wine, are not covered by the cost of the ticket and must be purchased separately. Proposed functions* We understand that everyone has different tastes when it comes to functions, including the food, entertainment and music provided. We also understand that not everyone (including yours truly) is a dancer! Accordingly, we will be having a number of different functions that we hope will appeal to those members who may not like the traditional dinner dance format. Details of the four functions currently proposed for 2017 are as follows: Sporting Luncheon Date: March 2017 (TBC) Food: Three course lunch Entertainment: Sporting celebrities as guest speakers Dancing: No Ladies Revue Date: Food: Entertainment: Dancing: Note: July 2017 (TBC) Buffet dinner, to be served before the show The cast of the Revue will be made up of Lady Members of the Club and will be directed by Joan MacDougal Optional In previous years, there has been more than one performance of the Revue. The number of performances in 2017 will be confirmed. Commemoration Dance Date: Saturday, 26 August 2017 Food: Three course dinner Entertainment: Shock Daze (TBC) Dancing: Yes Note: Commemorates the foundation of the Club in August Christmas Dance Date: December 2017 Food: Three course dinner Entertainment: Dancing: Note: Functions 5 & 6 TBC Yes Christmas theme Hopefully, the functions set out above will be of interest to most members, but we are also seeking your suggestions for the theme and format of the final two functions. Please let us know the type of food, music and entertainment you would like to see at Functions 5 & 6. Suggestions? Cocktail Party? Winemakers Dinner? Tribute Band Night e.g. ABBA, ACDC, INXS, The Blues Brothers, The Beatles? Scottish Night - with Scottish food, Scottish music and a whiskey tasting? Rock n Roll Dance? Cabaret Night? Trivia Night? Melbourne Cup Luncheon? Trophy Presentation Night? Please send through your suggestions to: functions@northrydegolfclub.com.au Club Championships Our Club Championships are well underway, with the final round for all grades and divisions to be played on Sunday, 23rd October. I look forward to seeing all qualifiers out on the course on that day. I also encourage all other members to come out and support their fellow members, witness some great golf and enjoy a drink or two! The presentation for the Championships will follow the last round and will be held at about 6.00 pm, subject to any required playoffs. If last year is anything to go by, it will be a great event. Condolences On a sad note, I would like to pass on my condolences to our Club Captain, John McKie, whose father passed away a few days ago. Our thoughts are with John and his family at this time. 4 The General Managers Report JASON ATKINS Jason Atkins GENERAL MANAGER The 2016 Club Championships are currently underway with the last round to be played this Sunday. The hit off order on Sunday is as follows; Ladies Division 4, Men's D Grade, Ladies Division 3, Men's C Grade, Ladies Division 2, Men's B Grade, Men's A Reserve, Ladies Division 1 and Men's A Grade, the hit off times are from 830am. All members are welcome to attend and support their fellow members; the last round will be followed by presentation in the club house. Good luck to all players involved. The club's IT infrastructure continues to be upgraded; the latest improvement has seen a commercial internet product installed. This will improve the speed of the internet service to members. The club is currently upgrading our website; this should be available in late November early December. The main focus of the website is to provide easier navigation for both members and guests. This project has been delayed due to the current catering tender, the new restaurant and bistro offers will be added to the new site. Once the new website is ready to Well members, with our course renovations starting on Monday 14 th March the rain finally arrived just in time. We went 24 days all up without rain, so it launch an information night will be held for members. Kind Regards, Jason Atkins

5 The Ladies Committee Report THE LADIES COMMITTEE LADIES COMMITTEE Club Championships: The first and second rounds of the Club Championships have now been held. The extreme blustery conditions during the first round made play very challenging for most players. However the extreme conditions did not deter Margaret Beveridge who produced a magnificent first round score. Margaret came in with 86 off the stick and a nett of 59 (at present there is daylight between her and the next person in division 2 and her gross score was equal to the 3rd score in division 1 who is Fiona Montgomery playing off 9, quite exceptional). The second round saw the same blustery conditions. Hopefully the wind will be gone by the next round on Sunday. The last round of the Championships will be played on Sunday 23 October. We would like to encourage all members to come to the last round and support the girls by following some of the field. Even if you can t make it to follow the field the presentation will be held at approximately 6pm so it would be great to see you all there to have a drink and celebrate with the winners. Min Smith Match Play: Sixteen players participated in the Min Smith Match Play event. The winner of the Salver was Margaret Beveridge and Barbara Evennett was runner up. Women s Golf NSW Fourball Championship: Cathy Breen and Julie Curtin did well in the Women s Golf NSW Fourball Championship Metropolitan final which was held at Glenmore Heritage Valley Golf Club on Friday 7 October. They came 24th out of a field of 70 teams. Veterans Foursomes Bowl: The Veteran s Bowl winners were Kim Drury and Julie Curtin with nett The Vi Atkinson Shield winners (nett runners up) were Anna Lee and Kim Jun with 70. The Edith Murphy Plate winners (best scratch) were Monica Shona and Helen Lee with gross 92. Upcoming Events: Melbourne Cup Day is on Tuesday 1 November and there will be a Teams (4 person) 18 hole Stableford event with a shotgun start at 8:00am. Get your teams together and outfitted for this fun day. The timesheet is now open so put your names down. There will be prizes for the best dressed team and the best. Sweeps will be available on the day and we will be having a Hat Parade!!!! So get creative with your hats and be ready to strut your stuff at the Melbourne Cup! Captains vs Presidents: This is a 2 Ball Teams Stableford Event and is being held on Tuesday15 November. The Captains team will wear yellow and the Presidents team will wear blue. Lady Veterans Party Day is on Thursday 24 November. There will be a 9 hole comp followed by lunch, AGM and presentation. Presentation Day is on Tuesday 29 November with a 9 hole comp followed by lunch and Trophy Presentation.

6 VETS Report SCOTT BEATTY VETS COMMITTEE A reminder to Members of the upcoming games until the conclusion of our 2016 year:- 24 th October as per Fixtures Book 7 th November as per Fixtures Book 14 th November Ryde/Parramatta game at NRGC 21 st November Round 1 of Championships 28 th November - Round 2 of Championships 12 th December Hams Day Those Members who were unable to read last month s Vets News, our Championships have been re-scheduled and will now be played on the days as indicated above. Your Committee agreed to the change in order that the Club would be able to hold a Trade Day on 5th December, thus resulting in our Championships being held over 2 consecutive weeks. Please note these various alterations to our 2016 schedule. With regard to the Ryde/Parramatta game, the sheet will be available on line as per usual 13 days prior. When opened, it will be noted that it is a Shot Gun start beginning at 7.30am with 2 groups of 4 per Hole. Each group will have 2 spaces available for our Members with the remaining 2 spaces being reserved for our guests. The cost of the game is $15 which will also include a Sausage Sizzle afterwards. Drinks will be at the expense of each player. Those members who are unable to play with our guests, spaces will be made available only when Members and Guests have been accommodated. Once the NRGC/Ryde Parramatta sheet has been filled, an additional sheet will become available on line, indicating selected holes for Members. Those Members will be able to join in the Sausage Sizzle at the conclusion of the Round as the cost of your game will also be $15. As indicated last month, qualification for Hams Day this year is 12 games. On the Notice Board you will find a list showing the number of games each Member has played as at 10 th September. To determine the number of games you have played in total, you should add the followings dates to the number shown on the list:- 12 th September, 26 th September and 10 th October If you played any or all of these games, please add the number played to your total. The number of qualifying rounds remaining prior to the Hams Day game is 5. We urge all Members to refer to the list to avoid disappointment.

7 Ron Duffy Course Superintendent s Report RON DUFFY COURSE SUPERINTENDENT What an unusual start to spring with extreme cold, extremely windy conditions for days on end plus a few warm days thrown in just to confuse everyone, as a result of the cold and wind, some of our tees and fairways which were badly affected by shade during winter have been slow to start the recovering process, once more favourable weather conditions occur growth will be quick, but generally the surface is very good to play off. Tee renovations will commence following the completion of the club championships, this process will only take 3-4 days and will only cause minimal disruption - this involves the shaving down of the surface to remove thatch build up, coring, followed by top dressing. Just a reminder- when driving the carts, try and stay completely on the path especially on curves and tight turns. Thanks The course is in great shape, enjoy your golf. Ron Duffy
