Please send all correspondence and payments to: Ventura Blvd. Studio City, CA BCSC Annual Meeting to be held at West Coast Bowling Convention The 2012 BCSC Annual Meeting will be held in conjunction with the West Coast Bowling Convention being hosted at the Red Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. The convention will be held October with the BCSC Annual Meeting taking place on October 29. The meeting itself is free to all BCSC members but does not include registration to the convention or hotel accommodations. If you wish to attend the convention, you are in for a treat. You will enjoy a highly discounted nightly rate at the world-class Red Rock Hotel. PLUS, convention registration includes access to the much-anticipated trade show with dozens of vendors offering products or services for your center at a discounted rate. To cap it off, there will be plenty of educational seminars with helpful tips on how to improve operations at your center. See the flyer below for all the information and sign up today! 4 P A G E 4 President s Perspective August 2012 As you know, I make the long trip to Las Vegas quite a bit. I know that stretch of I-15 almost better than the streets of Fountain Valley. I know all the small towns, mile markers and pit stops from Barstow to the infamous Zzyzx Road. I have traveled across the desert for everything from sweepers to Bowl Expo to even a fun weekend away. In spite of having made Sin City one of the most traveled destinations for my odometer, I am still pretty excited to be heading back there this October for the West Coast Bowling Convention and BCSC Annual meeting. This will be the first time the WCBC will be held in Vegas, and it has been three years since our association has be teamed up with our Nor Cal counterparts to hold our annual meeting. If you are looking for a good reason to make the trip, there are plenty. First off, it s Vegas which I think gets a good amount of interest in and of itself. I know many people from So Cal held off going to Bowl Expo this year, because it was in Reno. We all know there is no other place on the planet like Vegas to have some fun and blow off some steam. Better yet, the event is happening at Red Rock Casino which is one of the most beautiful resorts in town. If you haven t had the chance to check out Red Rock Lanes, it is pretty amazing. The convention will be holding some special events in their VIP lanes to make everyone feel like the rock stars. Of course with the BCSC Annual Meeting being held in the middle of the convention, I would encourage everyone to come and stay active in the association that you pay for with your hard earned money. This is your chance for your voice to be heard by your fellow members and the board of directors. The BCSC is enjoying a very healthy economic outlook, and we need to hear from you as to what direction we should be moving to improve bowling in our communities. No matter how odd the idea, I promise we will listen and consider everything to help make this organization what you want it to be. On top of all of this, there is a packed schedule of educational seminars and fun social events that will keep your days and nights full. As a reminder, the BCSC Annual Meeting is free for all members to attend. However, I hope you will consider staying for the entire event. For the modest registration fee and the discounted hotel rate, the entire package is a pretty impressive deal. I hope you will be making the trip. I ll meet you half way at the thermometer in Baker! 5 V O L U M E 1 6, I S S U E 7 P A G E 5 Executive Director Report FORE! I am happy to report that my sunburn from the BCSC golf tournament has subsided. A little red skin was well worth the fun in the sun last month. It was a priceless day full of laughs and some questionable bending of golf s rules. As usual, some eye-popping scores were posted by every foursome. This of course was accomplished with the combination of the tournament s scramble format and the help of the famous Cheat Bags designed by Buena Lanes Dina Fink. The latter is a batch of helpful tools designed to get that little white ball just a bit closer to the hole without hurting your score. This goes beyond the classic mulligan. A smart use of the Foot Wedge or Hand Toss shaves strokes off your score like a razor blade. As my team traveled the course, I realized the similarities my time on the course had to a day at a bowling center. Each hole was like trying to navigate through a day of business. Whether it is a dog-leg left, an unexpected trip to the sand trap or a sharp break in a green, there are plenty of obstacles you have to deal with. By identifying your staff s strengths, you can decide who can nail that long chip shot or knock down a tough putt. I would like for each of you to think of the BCSC as that handy bag-o-tricks. If you are ever in a bind or need help with a certain vision you have for the center, pick up the phone and give the BCSC office a call. We are here to improve how you do business and help sink that next hole-inone. I would be remiss without thanking everyone that helped make this year s golf tournament a success. 10 BCSC Golf Tournament Gets High Marks & Low Scores The 30th annual BCSC Golf Tournament brought a day of fun and beautiful weather to the Black Gold Golf Club on July 25. Fifteen foursomes hit the course to battle it out for the low round of the day. Scores well below par were the norm with the combination of the scramble format and popular Cheat Bag that featured such useful tools as mulligans and the Foot Wedge. At the end of the day, Vayle Floria from BCSC Partner National Planning Corp walked away with the title once again while Team Buena Lanes earned the newly created Odd Ball Team award. The most exciting moment of the day went to TJ Doop who came three inches away from winning $25,000 on the special event hole.

13 Santa Clarita Lanes opens an off-track horse betting satellite On July 14, Tom Cristi, proprietor of Santa Clarita Lanes, proudly opened a Watch & Wager Mini Satellite for horse racing. Tom made the decision to convert his large bar/restaurant area into the betting facility a few months ago. The result? A world-class venue with nearly two dozen high-definition televisions showing horse racing from all over the world. Patrons can choose to bet either through one of the electronic betting machines or through a ticket counter employee who also pays out winnings. Tom hopes that his new venture will bring new people to his center who will place some bets, have a beer and maybe even bowl a few games. Either way, I think we can easily say it s a winner by a long shot!
