With a team that consists of 10 underclassmen and just one upperclassman, Oregon men s head coach Casey Martin is preparing a team that was just a couple strokes shy of making the NCAA Championships last year. Now, sophomores Brandon McIver, Sulman Raza, Zach Foushee and junior Jonathan Woo are poised and ready to make it back to the championships, which will be held in Hutchinson, Kan., May 27-June 1. NATIONS BEST CONVERGE AT ECC Four of the world s top amateur golfers, highlighted by Stanford s Patrick Rodgers, and four of the nation s top golf programs will be joining Oregon at Eugene Country Club, May 15-17, for the NCAA Men s Golf West Regional. The NCAA released the field on Monday, May 5, via live broadcast on the Golf Channel s Morning Drive program. The Ducks, who are the seventh seed in the West Regional and No. 40 according to Golfstat, will play host to No. 3 Stanford, No. 10 Houston, No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 22 South Carolina, No. 27 Baylor, No. 34 Liberty, No. 47 Tennessee, No. 51 North Florida, No. 58 East Tennessee State, No. 64 Chattanooga, No. 116 Wichita State and No. 151 Northern Colorado. Ten individuals from San Jose State, Air Force, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Pacific, Loyola Marymount, GRU Augusta, UC Irvine and Pepperdine will also be playing in the West Regional. Joining Rodgers at the West Regional will be teammate Cameron Wilson, Oliver Goss of Tennessee and Kyle Jones of Baylor. Rodgers, the top-ranked amateur and collegiate player in the world, is a Ben Hogan Award finalist along with his teammate Wilson who is the seventh-ranked amateur in the world. Goss, a sophomore, qualified for last month s Masters Tournament and finished in 49th. He also earned the Masters Silver Cup for sporting the Masters best low amateur score. The Perth, Australia, native is also the 11th-ranked amateur in the world. MARTIN MAKES IT EIGHT STRAIGHT Oregon has yet to miss a regional round since Martin took over the helm in the season and will play in its eighth straight regional when play begins on May 15 at Eugene Country Club. The Ducks have finished in the top 10 every year at the regionals since Martin took over, except for his first post-season appearance in 2007 when UO finished in 19th-place. Oregon finished second in 2008 and 2009, and won the program s first-ever regional title in 2010, earning a No. 1 national ranking. 1

Daniel Miernicki placed second twice (2010 & 2012) in the regional round while Ben Crane, a current player on the PGA Tour, tallied the only other second-place individual finish for Oregon. DUCKS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIPS The last time UO qualified for the championships was back in 2012 when the Ducks finished in a tie for third with Cal. Martin has led Oregon to two of its best finishes at the NCAA Championships, earning a tie for third in 2012 and 2010 in the new match-play format. UO has played in two other championships in the Martin era, finishing in 22nd in 2009 and tied for 27th in As a program Oregon has competed in 25 golf championships with only two other top- 10 finishes. The Ducks took fourth in 1959 and seventh in LAST TIME OUT Brandon McIver helped Oregon move up two spots to finish in eighth place at the Pac- 12 Men s Golf Championship with a 5-under 67 card on Sunday, April 27, at the Gallery Golf Club. McIver had his best day at the championships, firing in five birdies, an eagle and only two bogeys. Jonathan Woo finished in a tie for 16th to lead UO, after carding a 3-over 75 card on the final day and wrapped up the four-day event with a 6-over card. Zach Foushee and McIver finished in a tie for 22nd at 7-over par. Foushee was even par heading into his last three holes, but bogey s on two of his last three holes left the sophomore with a 74 2-over card. Thomas Lim had a much better Sunday than he did Saturday, shooting a 2-over 74 card. The freshman however ended the tournament 19- over par. Brandon Baumgarten had his best day at the Gallery Golf Club, shooting 3-over par. Baumgarten was 1-under through seven holes, but back-to-back double-bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes set him back. Ryann Ree had the largest difference in scores out of the six Ducks. The sophomore shot even par on Sunday, compared to the 13-over card he shot on Saturday. LONG SET TO JOIN WISE FOR 2015 Oregon head men s golf coach Casey Martin announced the signing of Christopher Hurly Long for the upcoming 2015 season. Long comes to UO from St. Leon-Rot, Germany, where the Mannheim Viernheim Golf Course serves as his home course. He joins Aaron Wise, whom Martin signed in the early signing period, as members of the 2015 class. Long joins Oregon with a lot of international experience, having played worldwide as a member of the German Junior National Team. His most recent victory came this past Christmas Eve when he won the Doral Publix Junior title with a card at the three-day tournament held at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, Fla. LIM ENDS 2013 ON HIGH NOTE Thomas Lim wrapped up his first term at Oregon with a high note, tying for a third-place finish at the Patriot All-America tournament. The freshman carded a at the four-day event held in Arizona on the par-71 Wigwam Golf Resort. In cooperation with the Folds of Honor Foundation, Lim and the other NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA and AJGA All-Americans that participated in the tournament represented a fallen soldier. Lim represented Lt. Col. James L. Wiley of the U.S. Army, a North Bend, Ore., native who was a member of the 27th Bridge Combat Team from the New York Army National Guard. MARTIN INKS WISE FOR 2015 Head coach Casey Martin signed Aaron Wise during the early signing period in the fall of Wise, a native of Lake Elsinore, Calif., is currently ranked 21st in his class nationally and fifth in California by Junior Golf Scorecard. The senior from Santiago High School took top honors this past summer at the USGA Junior Boys Qualifier in Oceanside, Calif., shooting a and won by 13 strokes over a field of 77 golfers. 2

12 O Oregon Men s Golf 12 Head Coach Casey Martin 12 PGA Tour veteran, former NCAA Champion and Eugene native Casey Martin enters his eighth season in , after amassing one of the Ducks impressive resumes in any sport. In his short tenure, he has transformed Oregon into a national golf power, and guided the team to four NCAA Championship appearances the past six years. In that span, UO has tied for the lead at the end of regulation of the Pac-12 Championships the last two seasons, and scored a third-runner-up effort in 09. In NCAA Regional play, Oregon has been equally up to par with one title (2010) and three runnerup efforts (2008, 09, 12) among its six straight appearances. The campagin was arguably the Ducks greatest ever and featured a record six team wins among their 12 stroke-play events, and an even more amazing postseason run. In the collegiate finale in L.A., UO matched its best-ever finish among its 25 NCAA trips with a third-place tie. The Ducks lost their hard-fought semifinal to No.1-ranked and eventual national champion Texas, 3-2, at the Riviera Country Club. Earlier in the week, Oregon beat No. 5 UCLA, 3-2, in the quarterfinals, and stood seventh in stroke play ( ) after it sported three individuals in the top 30 overall (Eugene Wong, 13th, 215 (-1); Daniel Miernicki, 21st, 216 (+2); Andrew Vijarro, 29th, 217 (+2)). Two weeks before in the Ann Arbor NCAA Regional, the Ducks equaled their best-ever finish (second) after they ended one stroke behind USC. Not surprisingly, Oregon featured all five individuals in the top 45 overall - Miernicki (second, 206 (-7)); Jonathan Woo (seventh, 208 (-5)), Wong (19th, (E)), Vijarro (28th, +2)) and Robbie Ziegler (45th, +9)). In the Pac-12 Championships two weeks prior, UO tied its bestever league finish and placed second in a two-hole playoff to California. The two teams ended the six-count-five, four-round event tied at 12-under after regulation at the Tysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis. In the event that featured six teams ranked top 13 nationally, Miernicki placed second individually (-11) - two strokes shy of the win. Wong trailed once place back in third (-9)), and both posted career-best league placings, while two other Ducks followed in a tie for 21st place - Vijarro and Ziegler. In return for their historic play all season long, the Ducks amassed a host of individual accolades in Wong picked up his second Pac-12 Golfer of the Year, All- Nicklaus Team and PING All-America First Team honors. Miernicki joined Wong on the top PING All-America squad - his first, first-team nod after he earned second-team honors as a sophomore. Even though he re-directed his love for the sport as a collegiate coach in the fall of 2005, he flashed his undeniable athletic skill seven years later in June, After winning the local 2012 U.S. Open qualifier at Emerald Valley, he returned to the nation s toughest golf test at the Olympic Club in San Francisco two weeks later. In his first elite appearance in nearly a decade, the soft-spoken fan favorite became the event s most heart-warming story, and his nine-over score ( ) was only one stroke shy of the midway cut. The 40-year-old Martin is also known for his court battle with the PGA Tour over the right to use a golf cart in competition. Martin suffers from a birth defect in his right leg known as Klippel-Trenaunay-Webber Syndrome, a congenital circulatory disorder. Under the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Martin won the right to use a golf cart in a legal case with the PGA that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. His efforts in that landmark case earned him the 1998 Ben Hogan Award, given annually to a competitor who continues to be active in golf despite a physical handicap. In 2001, Nike began bestowing an annual Casey Martin Award to recognize a disabled athlete. Martin, whose brother Cameron was a member of Oregon s golf team in the early 1990s, has also been named Time magazine person of the week (2001) and New Mobility magazine person of the year (2002). He is the ninth man to hold the head coaching position at the University of Oregon. He succeeded Steve Nosler, whom he served under as a volunteer assistant coach for the season.
