Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain & Moorland Stud Books. Part breds are not eligible for Mountain & Moorland Classes.. Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non members but only ponies owned by adult NPS Qualifying or Life members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 1 st -3 rd August 2017 The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified. NPS/Rosettes Direct Home Produced Ridden Championship - Riders of Home Produced ponies (see definition in the NPS Rules Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is indicated. These ponies, if owned by NPS members, are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show. The Owner s Membership cards MUST be produced in the ring when requested or the qualification will be forfeit. 2

3 Qualification Cards- The owner s valid, current membership card must be shown in the ring to receive most qualifications. Stallion Discs- All In Hand Stallions MUST display a bridle disc when showing in NPS classes. As with ridden stallions, for which it remains compulsory, these may be from any UK society as long as they are easily identified or an NPS Stallion Disc. Owners and Exhibitors are responsible for checking that they comply with the current NPS Rules in respect of any of the qualifiers they enter. SWA Membership badge to be available in the ring. To be judged on style, turnout and manners. The pony/cob shown need not be registered in the Welsh Stud Book. NO COLTS OR STALLIONS ALLOWED. Please enter the name and age of the young member on the entry form and the name of the pony. Class 1: Class 2: 7-11 years years. Open to registered mares or geldings four years old and over. Riders must not have attained their 18 th birthday before the 1 st January in the current year.. All horses and ponies must be in a sound and healthy condition. b. Handler or Rider any age, except for stallions (see rules in section A 3.2 of NPS Rule Book). c. The owner does not have to be an NPS member for the pony to enter this competition but only ponies owned by NPS Qualifying or Life members can qualify for the final. d. The highest placed pony, owned by an NPS member, in each class goes forward to the final. Where this pony has already qualified the pony standing next in line, which is owned by an NPS member and has not already qualified, receives the qualification. Qualification goes no lower than third place. e. A short freestyle show will be required at the final. 5

The Sponsor s Rosette is also awarded to the pony receiving the qualification. A valid membership card must be in the rider s/handler s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show 1 st -3 rd August COLOURED HORSE & PONY SOCIETY (CHAPS) This show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK). Affiliation No Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS (UK) to compete. However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and present their valid Qualifier card IN THE RING for signing by the judge. Members to apply in writing to CHAPS (UK) for appropriate qualifier card. The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 31st August 2 nd September Shows held on or after the Postal Entry date of Championship Show will count as 2018 qualifiers. The following classes are CHAPS (UK) Qualifiers Classes 38 to 44. For full rulings and information on competition/qualification, please refer to the CHAPS (UK) Members' Handbook; or visit for rulings. All stallions, 4 years old and over entering these classes must be graded with CHAPS(UK). All stallions must wear Stallion ID Discs in the ring without exception. 8

10 A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1st January of the current year it has: i. Won an open NPS affiliated mixed M&M Ridden class ii. Won a Ridden class at an Olympia, Horse of the Year Show or RIHS qualifying round iii. Qualified for Horse of the Year Show or RIHS Ridden classes iv. Qualified for the M&M Novice or Intermediate Ridden final at the NPS Summer Championship show (N.B. Ponies can compete as novices in this competition for two consecutive years provided they do not submit an entry to the final in the first year). v. Qualified for the M&M Ridden Championship final at Olympia in previous years vi. 12 RING 4 WORKING HUNTER PONY All WHP classes to be judged under the rules of the NPS 2017 Judge: MRS A E NICHOLLS (BOURNEFIELD) Course Builder MR STEVE URCH The NPS/Team Harvey Working Hunter Pony (M&M and Plaited) Training Stakes National Championship Open to stallions, mares and geldings, 4 years old and over, in possession of an equine passport but no specific registration or breed society criteria.. Riders may only ride one pony in each class. Rider any age except stallions (see NPS rules). Please note there will be a maximum of 10 jumps and there will be no individual show required. Ponies may be shown in any suitable bridle. Class 60: Class 61: Class 62: Class 63: Height of fences 46cms to 53cms Height of fences 53cms to 69cms Height of fences 69cms to 84cms Height of fences 84cms to 99cms The NPS/Area 25 M&M Novice WHP National Championship Class 64: Ponies exceeding 143 cms but not exceeding 148 cms (with the exception Dales and Welsh Section D for which there is no height restriction. Class 65: Ponies exceeding 133 cm but not exceeding 143 cms Class 66: Ponies exceeding 122 cms but not exceeding 133 cms Class 67: Ponies not exceeding 122 cm Open to registered pure bred M&M stallions, mares and geldings, four years old or over. Riders may only ride one pony in each class. Ponies must be shown in a snaffle bit. A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1st January in the current year, it has done any of the following: i) Won an open NPS affiliated M&M WHP class ii) Won a class at an M&M WHP (Horse of the Year Show or RIHS) qualifying round iii) Qualified for the NPS M&M Novice or Intermediate WHP final at the NPS Summer Championship show iv) Qualified for an M&M WHP final at Horse of the Year Show or RIHS in previous years or in the current year (N.B. Ponies can compete as novices for two consecutive years provided they do not make an entry in the final in the first year) The NPS/Area 5 Mountain & Moorland Intermediate WHP Championship Class 68: Ponies not exceeding 122 cm Class 69: Ponies exceeding 122 cm but not exceeding 133 cm Class 70: Ponies exceeding 133 cm but not exceeding 143 cm Class 71: Ponies exceeding 143 cms but not exceeding 148 cms (with the exception Dales and Welsh Section D for which there is no height restriction. 12

13 Open to registered pure bred M&M stallions, mares and geldings, five years old or over. Ponies never to have qualified for the NPS M&M Working Hunter Pony (Horse of the Year Show/RIHS) finals before 1st January in the current year. Riders may only ride one pony in each class. WORKING HUNTER PONY CHAMPIONSHIP (1 st & 2 nd prize winners from Classes to compete) RULES 1. The Organisers or any of the Show s officers, servants or agents shall not be in any way responsible or accountable for any loss, injury or damage from any cause or circumstances whatever to exhibitors or their servants or agents or other members of the public, to any animal or property or to any vehicle brought on to the Showground, or on premises used in conjunction with the Show, or while entering or leaving the same or otherwise for anything else in conjunction with or arising out of or attributable to the Show. 2. Any member or exhibitor wishing to lodge a protest having reference to any person or exhibit shall do so in writing to the Show Secretary and shall at the same time deposit the sum of 10. If on investigation by the Show Committee the protest is not sustained, the deposit will be forfeited to the funds of the Show. All protests shall be delivered within half an hour of the incident. 3. The decision of the Judge is final and the Organisers reserve the right to amend the Judge s Panel and order of Classes f it should become necessary. 4. With the exception of the driving classes and Part-Bred classes, all entries must be entered in the main Stud Book for their respective breeds. Part-Bred ponies must be registered. All Stud Book registration numbers must be given on all entry forms. Animals registered in Welsh Section X of the Stud Book and FS cannot compete but FS.1 and FS.2 may. 5. Relevant classes are eligible for points towards the Welsh Pony & Cob Society Performance Award Scheme, the South Western Association Performance, In Hand and Young Adult In Hand Award Competitions. 6. The Committee reserves the right to cancel/amalgamate any Class with less than three entries. 7. The Committee reserves the right to retain all or part of the entry fees in the event of the Show being cancelled. 8. NO MANES OR TAILS OF PURE BREDS TO BE PLAITED IN ANY M&M CLASS IT IS OPTIONAL FOR PART BREDS. 9. It is the Exhibitor s responsibility to ensure they are ready to enter the ring at the appropriate time. 10. Ponies must be the bona fide property of the Exhibitor of officially leased. 11. Riders must wear correctly secured current British Standards skull caps/riding hats at all times when mounted. Spurs are not permitted. Showing canes can be no more than 30 inches long. 12. All dogs must be kept on a lead. 13. Exhibitors should not enter an animal when that animal will be judged by a person who is the breeder or who has had a financial interest in the animal. 14. NO nominations or substitutions will be permitted. 15. Exhibitors are requested not to bring any coughing pony to the Show and may be requested to remove any such animal at the Veterinary Officer s discretion. 16. All cups and trophies remain the property of the South Western Association of the WPCS and may only be collected and signed for by paid up adult members of the Association on payment of a deposit of 10. They remain the responsibility of the winner whilst in their possession and any loss or damage is therefore their responsibility. 17. No change of rider/handler will be allowed throughout the class without the judge s permission. 18. Colts and stallions must be licensed in accordance with respective Breed Society requirements. 19. The Show Committee recommend that competitors have adequate third party insurance. 20. Exhibitors entering classes which may clash do so at their own risk, no entry fees will be refunded. 21. The organisers reserve the right to refuse any entry without giving a reason. 22. Handlers of ponies in In Hand classes aged 14 years and under must wear correctly secured current British Standard skull caps/riding hats. 23. Correctly secured British Standard Skull Caps/Riding Hats that meet current safety standards MUST be worn by riders at all times when mounted. 24. National Pony Society rules regarding age of Handlers/Riders of Stallions apply. 25. National Pony Society & CHAPS(UK) rules regarding wearing of Stallion Discs on bridles apply. 13
