1 THE ROYAL WELSH SHOW 2015 Section C class The highlight of the year for Welsh Pony & Cob enthusiasts is the Royal Welsh Show, the largest Agricultural Show in Europe and the only four day County Show in the Country. Set in a bowl surrounded by the mountains at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells the show must be in one of the most picturesque settings of any show. With several attractions in addition to the cattle, pigs, horses, ponies, sheep, poultry etc showing classes were the Metropolitan Police Mounted Branch Activity Ride, Bolddog Lings Freestyle Motorcross Team, Tristar Carriage Driving, RAF BBMF Hurricane & Spitfire Display, the Regimental Band and Corp of Drums of the Royal Welsh and back by popular demand the Merion Owen and the Quack Pack and the Ye Olde Redtail Falconry Display. So together with the trade stands there is plenty to do and see! On Thursday the show was visited by the Prime Minister, David Cameron who came into the main ring and talked with the Shire exhibitors and the Weslh Oart Bred exhibitors. The highlights of the show were to see the twenty four year old Welsh Section D stallion Glanvrynwy Temptation competing in the senior stallion class. He could still show the younger stallions how it should be done. He looked so well and fit giving a great display with great stamina. They announced his retirement from the show ring. What a stallion!! The other highlight was seeing Ceulan Calon Lan win the Section A stallion class and then the Championship for Bethan Jane and Rhydian Donati. He then went through the card and won the Tom & Sprightly, the Royal Welsh In Hand Horse Supreme Championship, Reserve Supreme Horse Championship and THE CUDDY. Dr Wynne was over the moon and even ran Calon Lan after he won the In hand Championship.

Stewart Franklin and Sarah Finch s homebred SARUM PINOT GRIGIO won the Section A yearling colt class under judge Mrs Lottie Stephens (Abrahall) and was also the best yearling. In the yearling filly or gelding class Cathie Pearse was second with her homebred UPHILL DUN & DUSTED and Stewart Franklin and Sarah Finch s homebred SARUM ROSE D ANJOU was eighth. Stewart Franklin and Sarah Finch s were fifth in the three year old colt class with their homebred SARUM CHARLIE and also sixth in the Brood Mare class with another homebred pony SARUM ROSAMUNDE. Rosamunde s foal SARUM ROSALIND was second in the filly foal class. Charlotte Waelde s SARUM PIROUETTE was second in the three year old filly or gelding class. In the junior stallion class Yvonne Small s homebred PASADENA CHEYENNE was seventh.

John & Maggie Carter s homebred MILLCROFT CHIQUITA was second in the three year old filly or gelding class. John & Maggie were also second with another homebred pony MILLCROFT GILDA in the barren mare or gelding class. Gill Killey s homebred TREFYNYS LADY SANSA was third in the Section C yearling filly or gelding class under judge Jeremy Lloyd Davis. In the three year old filly or gelding class Jackie Cooper s homebred RIVERVALLEY TEAR-DROP was third. WAUNDAFYDD LITTLE GEM was sixth in the barren mare or gelding class for owner Gill Killey. Under judge Rob Robinson Maxine & Mark Ingham s Section D DANAWAY NOODLES shown by Sam Attrell won the three year old colt class.

Jamie Frist was third in the yearling colt, filly or gelding class not to exceed 148cms at maturity with ROSEDALE MAMA MIA. The stallion class was won by Mike Coombes BRADMORE LEGACY who was also Reserve best stallion, colt or gelding. The Royal Welsh hold special gelding classes in addition to the Section classes. In the Section A class Paula Furniss POLMESK SUPER SONIC was fourth.. Jessica Price won the Section B class with THISTLEDOWN ARTIC FOX and Janet Hawkins was second with her homebred COURTDOWN KESTREL.

In the stallion class Helen jean s CASCOB LOCOMOTION ridden by her daughter Jessica Talbot was tenth. Katie Reynold s NANTYMYNYDD BRIALLEN was fourth in the mare class. In the Section A class Stewart Franklin s HENIARTH QUINNELL was seventh ridden by Katie Parry and Paula Furniss POLMESK SUPER SONIC was tenth ridden by Ella Furniss. POLMESK SUPER SONIC also competed in the WHP but was not placed, what a versatile pony this is! If I have missed anyone out please let me know. Well down everyone. Janet Hardy
