3 A message from your President Financial Statement as of March 31, 2013 As another year of indoor winds down it sure was a successful one. We saw many state records get broken and several bowls came home from Louisville. Our state shoot had a record amount of shooters, both individual and team shooters. We had a couple of problems along the way but for our first time out and the record number of shooters, I think we faired pretty well. We had a lot of volunteers that were willing to come out and give us a hand setting up, running, and tearing down. I'd hate to start naming names of everyone who stepped in to help because I'm sure I would leave someone out. Without the help of these volunteer's we would not be able to have a state shoot at all. A very special "Thank You" goes out to everyone of you. MBH was also very well represented at Nationals this year. It's really impressive to see so many people wearing MBH shirts walking around the convention center. Missouri also brought home a few silver bowls and had many Championship flight finishes. Not only was Missouri well represented with adults there are lot of youth shooters from our state as well. There was one youth class that had all three top finishers coming from Missouri. I know of several cubs that earned top three honors as well. To me they are the future of our sport and I am very proud of them all. With outdoor season already starting the calendar is starting to get pretty full. Please keep an eye onthe Release for upcoming shoots. If you have never been to an outdoor shoot, I highly recommend attending one this summer. We don't get many shooters at our State Outdoor and that is something I would like to change. Last year was our first time at this event and we had a great time. So, I hope to see more of you there this year. We also cannot forget abouth the Youth State Indoor coming up on the 13th and 14th of April. We are hoping for another record number of shooters. 4 On March 23 rd, 2013, the Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program State Championship was held at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Once again, the tournament had another record attendance, topping out at over 1,400 shooters! 14 line times with 60 target butts on each line, it was quite the sight! Using NASP legal equipment, shooters competed amongst each other while having a great time enjoying the sport we all have come to love. With bragging rights and nearly 5 foot tall trophies for championship teams up for grabs, it was very cool to see the shooters focus in on their shooting while at the same time being great sportsmen and superb shooters. The shooting from many teams this year was nothing short of incredible. Students shot as individuals, but their scores were combined with their teammates to create team scores. These scores were made up of the top 12 scores on the team, 2013 Missouri NASP State Championship Another Great Success with at least 4 scores being boys and 4 scores being girls. The three age divisions where High School, Middle School, and Elementary. Rounding out the top 3 in the High School team division was Sarcoxie R-II coming in 1 st with 3339 pts., Crane HS in 2 nd with 3302, and Willard HS in 3 rd at a Just an interesting fact, MBH members Kaycia and David Woolsey and Chris Berry are coaches at Sarcoxie. In the Middle School team division, Holy Rosary took 1 st with a score of 3284, Ridgewood finished in 2 nd with 3255, and Hillsboro came home with 3 rd with a The top 3 teams in the Elementary School age division was George Guffey Elementary finishing 1 st at a 3169, second place went to Holy Rosary at a 3031, and Maramec Heights with a 3006 came in 3 rd. The top 5 individuals in each division were also recognized and given trophies. There is too many to name here, but one note of interest is MBH member Hunter Berry finished in 1 st for High School individual. Total results of the tournament can be found at nasptournaments.org, please check it out! Yours truly has had the opportunity to be a coach at Holy Rosary (mentioned above) for the last couple years. I have seen the growth of this program grow immensely across the state. This is the true future of the sport and its stronger than ever! On a personal note, I just want to thank head coach Marnie Bellamy, principal Doug McMillan, and Father Philip Egan for allowing me the opportunity to be part of the team and I look forward to more success in the future! Enjoy a few pictures from the event on page 8. Aim Small and God Bless Here are a couple of more game reports that came in. 49. Savannah Hanning, Salem, 130 lb. 7pt. Season Summary; 22 MBH members turned in reports last season. There were 45 deer reports, 4 turkey, and one coyote for a total of 50 reports during the fall & winter season. Nine members killed more than one deer. 3 killed two deer, 1 killed three deer, 3 killed four deer, 1 killed five deer, and 1 member killed seven deer this season. I had five first time archery deer killers this year with three of those members 16 years old or younger! There were 29 does, 12 antlered bucks, and 4 button bucks harvested. For the second year in a row no one turned in a P&Y buck entry. I saw some photos of bucks that would have qualified but no one submitted an entry. Also for the second year in a row the shot average was over twenty yards. This year s average was yards. Sleeping in this year worked out OK. 28 deer were harvested in the PM hours and 17 in the AM hours. Carbon arrows were used on all of the harvests and broadheads were split right down the middle with 23 mechanical and 22 fixed blade designs. Only 3 deer were taken on public ground. 42 were taken out of treestands, 2 from a blind, & 1 by still hunting. There were only eight turkey reports submitted, four spring and four fall turkeys submitted by 5 members. All of the birds were shot from a blind. Average shot was yards. Only two of the eight kills were on public ground. One member harvested 4 of the turkeys reported this year. Remember to turn in your spring 2013 turkey harvests. 6 CONSERVATION COMMITTEE The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has a motto Hunting is Conservation! I agree. Judging by the picture below the future of conservation is looking good! Savannah Hanning of Salem harvested her first deer with a bow. On the evening of October 19 th at 4:30 she made a great 42 yard shot from a ground blind with her 40 pound PSE bow, Carbon Express arrow, and Rage broadhead. The buck only made it forty yards after the complete pass through lung shot before expiring. Way to go Savannah! Happy Bow Hunting Jeff Blystone Jandkbly@gmail.com SEE YOURSELF HERE ADVERTISEMENT PAYS Whew! I m sure that is what the State and National officers feel after a very intense indoor season! Maybe they can relax and reload before 3-D and Field Archery season gets into full swing. I know most Nodaho archers are looking forward to going outside after a busy season. I was looking at the attendance for the Midwest Sectional Championship and it looks like a record crowd attended. Congratulations to Connie Randall and Linda Parker for their first place finishes in FSL and SFSL, respectively. Tim Randall continues to do well in the SMFSLRL division and took 2 nd. Chris Morrow shot two 300 s and took 1 st in the 2 nd flight in the Male Freestyle division wow, adding them up, there were 21 archers who shot a two day score of 600 that s impressive. Sometimes it seems it is hard to shoot your best when you don t know who your competition is and how they are doing NODAHO BOW HUNTERS, INC. The State shoot was a big success with a record attendance. I was impressed with our new officers and how they ran the show. Candy and Steve apologized for getting Sunday times posted so late, but I m sure it was very hard with the record crowd to get everyone shooting with their competition on Sunday at the same time with so few empty butts to work with. Nodaho had a good turnout with 26 archers competing. Congratulations to state champions Linda Parker, Connie Randall, Quinn Talbott, Jason Thompson, Jenell Ciak, Marsha Criger & Madison Thompson. We will be having our after league/start of outdoor party March 30. We always have a good time playing archery games and enjoying the great food our members provide. Our first outdoor 3-D shoot will be on April 14. Our range captain, Max Medsker said there was only minor winter trash to be dealt with on A side and doubted if our B side is any different, so our work party will have it in good shape and ready to go on the 14 th. We decided to bring back our marked yardage shoot for the first shoot, many think it helps sharpen the senses as far as yardage estimation after a long winter. We ll also start our member Wednesday night leagues the week after our shoot. If you are interested in becoming a member, give one of the officers a call we re listed in the Club Directory in the Release. The grass is greening up and the Robins have arrived Happy Spring everyone! Jeanette Brookshier, Secretary

8 Well by the time you read this it will be well into spring and almost summer. Several 3-D shoots will have already been shot by now. The State Indoor was fantastic again this year. Thanks to one and all who worked so hard to put it on. I heard a lot of comments about the shoot. It was a great place to shoot. At least there was no trouble finding a parking place. Thanks also to one and all that ran the line, and sat up and tore down after the shoot. I did get to make the Indoor National at Louisville, Kentucky again this year, and had a wonderful time. There were some fantastic scores shot this year again. Boy, was that an experience. There were thirteen hundred and twenty five shooters there. A new record I think. There were target butts on both sides of the Convention Center with the vendors in between. It was very impressive to this old boy. Our Tuesday night Indoor league is over, but I don t have the results at this time. I will try to get the results in the next writing. Congratulations to all of them for some fine shooting this year and last. Enough about that, let s get to the great outdoors. I always enjoy the State Outdoor shoots whether I shoot good or not. I hope to see a lot of you all there this summer. It seems that if you have a problem one particular target, on the next round maybe you can get your evens on it. Our outdoor range is coming along slowly. We had some wind damage that required two chain saws and a lot of work to get halfway cleared. We do hope to have it ready for the first outdoor league night. It is always the first Tuesday night in May. I hope everyone else is having good luck at getting their ranges ready. Our only deer harvest turned in to me was Rich Noble who took an eight point buck, and I took one shot this year and killed a tree. Oh well, I got two off of my stand during gun season and my son-in-law took one off of it too. There is not too much else happening here right now. Just thinking about the upcoming spring turkey season that is just around the corner. Hope you all have a safe and successful turkey season. Until the next time, may all your arrows find the Gold.
