2 We celebrate the 95th Anniversary of Guide Right Signed MOU with NSBE and Boy Scouts of America 123 Chapters completed GR Certification 211 Chapters Registered with NGR 157 of them had GR Programs Over 4000 students involved in Guide Right Over 3000 students signed up for Naviance (over 1000 in a December push) New National Voter Registration Day; #whykappasmentor; #iamachivement; Fences/Fatherhood initiatives

3 Goals & Objectives Guide Right Objectives: 1. To Create the Next Generation of Leadership via Leadership Development; 2. Prepare for college; 3. Mentor students to college graduation; 4. To positively impact youth through mentoring and training; 5. To prepare youth for academic success in middle school, high school and college; 6. To learn by interaction, doing and group dynamics. National Guide Right Goals: To Make Local Guide Right programs more Effective (Next Year) To assist Undergrad Chapters with Guide Right

4 The Core Four Every Chapter should implement the following initiatives: Naviance Financial Aid Awareness FAFSA (completed for this year) College Signing Day (just kicking off) Guide Right Certification All Chapters should be registered with the NGRC at: lotb3cpaa

5 Naviance Naviance is a powerful online tool to assist students with: SAT/ACT/PSAT practice tests access with college scholarship databases self guided reading and tutoring programs for individualized learning opportunity to connect parents into the process. 6 National College Signing Day Recognize and Celebrate graduating high school seniors on going to college and their selection. The event can be a dinner with a program, reception, meeting or recognition at the end of a Chapter meeting National Signing Day is conducted April - June. Action Items: Submit to your Province Guide Right Chairman, the time, location, number of signees, and place in which the event will be held. Submit an article of the event to the National Kappa League Website A recording or documentation of the event in encouraged. Send a final report with details of students, etc to: Terry L. 7 Guide Right Certification Guide Right Certification is a requirement to conduct a Guide Right program. Goals: Implement best practices for child safety in all Guide Right programs. Action Items: Complete 3 level background checks on all Guide Right volunteers. Local chapter Guide Right leader must complete child safety abuse training. Ensure Guide Right finances have had a recent audit. Submit IHQ insurance forms for Guide Right program. Kevin Burnett kburnett57@yahoo.com

8 Kappa Action Plan for School Involvement The objective is to have at least 10% of brothers in a chapter involved with their local school. Each chapter is also encouraged to develop at least one adopt-a-school program. Direct financial donation or commitment Subsidize the cost of a trip, class activities, books for the library, establish a scholarship fund, purchase musical instruments, etc. Indirect financial assistance Assist the school in obtaining funds, goods, or services through grant writing, procurement of services, cultivating partnerships Time commitment provide mentoring or tutoring to students, provide SAT/ACT workshops, help organize/participate in Career Fair, provide chaperones for school functions, assist with fundraising activities, or establish a Men s/father s Group. 11 STEM/STEAM Program Signed Partnership agreement with National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Will Provide STEM resources to our Guide Right programs We will Establish 6 Regional NSBE Jr Chapters NSBE Jr has activities for students in grades 3-12 NSBE Jr. helps students discover firsthand how engineering and technology relate to the world around them and discover the excitement of academic excellence, leadership, technical development and teamwork. Programs include: Jr. FIRST LEGO League, FIRST LEGO League, MATHCOUNTS, NSBE Jr. Explorer, Ten80 STEM Initiative, MATHVIDEO Challenge, KidWind, Try-Math-A-Lon &VEX Robotics.

12 Other Guide Right Initiatives Diamonds in the Rough Webinars: College & Career Series. Led by Ray Ivey & Ben Jackson National Kappa League Conference(New): National KL conference. Led by Oscar Neely & Terry Ward Science Technology Engineering Art Design Math (STEAM): Partnership with NSBE to provide STEAM awareness to students. Led by Antonio Harrison Mental Health & Wellness: Support for working with students with learning challenges and/or dealing with crisis events. Led by Maurice Ingram AMAN: This program is to encourage Guide Right participants in the direction of demonstrating knowledge and furthering interest in STEAM projects. Led by Hal Walker.
