1 February 2015 Wilson the Competition Chairman, Dave Pape the Solo Chairman, and Doug Liebman the RallyCross Chairman. Several other members have volunteered to work in lower profile but still vital capacities. by Jerry Doctor Just how elderly? The first new car I bought, a Fiat 124 Spider, had a manual choke and a hand throttle. I think the most beautiful cars ever produced are the Miura and the XKE. The Avengers are John Steed and Mrs. Peel... and I m still in love with Diana Rigg. I was a campaign worker for Goldwater. I know the names of all FIVE Marx brothers. I joined the Nebraska Region in I ve held an office in the region every year since And that makes me the poster child for what is wrong with our club. If you ve been a member for six years or more, and less than half of you have, you re probably used to seeing the same names on the Board of Governors every year. You ve probably noticed the officers don t change so much as just rotate positions. And while the region is fortunate to have this core of dedicated workers, it has come with a price. Who is there to take their places in the future? While I d like to think it was because of their confidence in me that I was unanimously elected the 2015 Regional Executive by the Board of Governors, it probably has more to do with the fact no one else was prepared/willing to take the job. My number one goal this year is to bring new people into the inner circle. I was thrilled by the response to my plea for volunteers. We have four members that have never been regional officers before assuming some key positions. Shana Hogan is our new Secretary, Steve There are still openings for those that are willing to help. We need a Chief of Waivers, especially for our Solo events. We need to have more people trained to work in registration, timing and as safety stewards for both Solo and RallyCross. (Watch for the announcement of an officials school.) The fence crew at LAP always needs another pair of hands. I ve got a couple people that will be serving on a New Member Issues Committee but need some more. These should be fairly new people that can help us figure out why we retain so few of our younger members. And here is the biggie - Assistant R.E. I need someone that can attend the board meetings (last Thursday of the month), be at most of the events, and wants to learn the ropes. And while I don t want someone that has been the R.E. before, taking this position doesn t mean you agree to be the R.E. in the future. I guarantee, however, that if you want to be on the Board of Governors or hold any of the major offices, you ll be prepared next January. For sixty years the Nebraska Region has been amazingly successful. The number of events we hold and our hosting of major national events is unmatched by any other region of our size. (And darn few regions MUCH larger than us.) We cannot, however, continue this tradition of excellence without the next generation of leaders. NRSCCA Just Celebrated Their 60th Year P AGE 1

3 RallyCross by Steve Ducharme RallyCross Chairman 2014 was a banner year for NRSCCA RallyCross, with all the action taking place at I-80 Speedway. We began with the first regional points event in February and concluded with the sixth points event in November. The championship season began with a combined National Challenge and Middiv Championship event in September, drawing 33 entries in all. Region drivers did well at this event, with Doug Liebman winning Mod Rear and Jan Gerber running away with the Stock All trophy by a 15 second margin. The climax of the year was the National Championship the first weekend of October. The record 110 entries, from as far away as Alaska, vied for 9 championships in an exciting 3- day event, also at I-80 Speedway. The many drivers and volunteers who contributed to the success of NRSCCA Rally cross have been named in previous columns, but I want to highlight a few who deserve special recognition. Doug Leibman was a reliable crowd pleaser in his fresh-as-daisy-yellow 71 VW Super Beetle, which seemed to dance its way around the courses, earning him the MidDiv championship and the award for Novice Regional RallyCross Driver of the Year. His experience in the National Championships was chronicled in the Jalopnik automotive blog by co-driver and blogger Rapheal Orlov. You can read the article at rallycross-is-the-best-deal-in-rac /. Among the many hard-working volunteers, I want to single out Shana Hogan for earning her SCCA RallyCross Safety Steward certification and working as safety steward and with whatever is needed at RallyCross events, even though she has only been competing in solo (so far ). In recognition for her contributions to the club, Shana was awarded the 2014 Workers Cup for the outstanding regional worker of the year. Finally, I want to thank I-80 Speedway owners Joe and Steve Kosiski, and manager Lee Ackerman, who have supported NRSCCA for many years, with a large site at low cost, and for being so helpful with schedules, improvements, and maintenance. The I-80 Speedway team received the 2014 Robert J. Wilson Memorial Trophy (NRSCCA Sponsors Cup) for their outstanding support. If all of this news has you anxious to get dirty, you are con t on pg.4 First Experience with NRSCCA by Shana Hogan I started my first autocross at SouthRoads in Omaha in October 2011 with my 1995 Mustang. I had fun! I then ran the car in the ladies class in 2012 and In 2014 the CAM class was available and I won the class in the NE region in Thanks to Chuck Garcia who let me use his car to finish out the CAM class after I sold my car earlier that year. I was also in the 100 percent club in 2012, 2013 and I have helped with many events and done many jobs in our club including fence setup, coarse setup, corner working, gate entry, scoring and timing at the MAM and Hastings race tracks and I, also, attended a fire and rescue school in Des Moines. I volunteered to help with the SAE events at the Lincoln Airpark. I ve also assisted with food preparation for Solo Nationals in 2012 and I have entered and shown my car at the World of Wheels Auto Show in Omaha and help set up displays, and worked that event. And met a lot of interesting people. I was one of the two grass sowers (along with Chuck Garcia), sitting on the tailgate sowing grass at the 1-80 speedway for the rallycross field, with Matt and Mark driving the truck around the field. I have attended two national conventions in 2012 and 2013 in Las Vegas and helped with the MidDiv Convention in Council Bluffs when Nebraska Region hosted it. This year I received my Rally Cross Safety Steward license, another achievement and fun. Thank you, Jerry Doctor instructing me. It s been a busy year and looking forward to many more. Just to think, I lived at the Airpark, and never knew about the solo course, the race tracks and the NRSCCA until I met Chuck Garcia and he recruited me to participate in the region events. Thank you Chuck. P AGE 3

4 RallyCross... continued In luck! The 2015 NRSCCA RallyCross season begins with the the first points event on February 22nd. The other 5 points events are schedule for March 15, June 7, July 19, October 18, and November 1, but check the schedule frequently, as these dates may change. Finally, welcome to the new regional RallyCross chair. Doug Leibman will be leading us in what promises to be another great year in NRSCCA RallyCross. Be sure to welcome Doug and perhaps ask him how you can have fun as driver and contribute as a worker in NRSCCA 2014 Annual Awards Banquet January 10, 2015 Introductio to the evening by Candy Gerber, Banquet Chair... We had some issues with our awards this year. First off, the shirts that were ordered, were coming from the Eastern states and they had all of that snow the week before the banquet, so they were delayed in their arrival. Needless to say, we did not have them in time for the banquet. Next, the plaques that were ordered had a similar glitch. The machine that makes the photo plaques broke half way through the process, so we only had about half of the order available for the banquet. Lastly, the engraving on the traveling trophies was not completed prior to the banquet because the person who runs that machine became ill with the flu, and did not come to work the whole week before.
