Candy Gerber Regional Executive September 2007 REality Check August is almost over and it is once again time for me to write to you. I never was very good at this in school. Good thing I am not getting graded on these articles. August 12th, Nebraska Region had a Solo at Lincoln Southwest High School. Eventmaster s Christy Carlson and Chris Clark did an excellent job putting together this event. The Solo ran smoothly, there were 57 entrants, they had 5 runs and we were finished with the event by 2:30 in the afternoon. Timing did have some issues with the cables and had a rocky start, but we managed to get going only a few minutes behind. We haven t had a problem for several months, so I was, let s just say, disappointed, when I couldn t get up and running right away. August 25th will be the additional RallyCross at Jim Wood s land in Lincoln, NE. Tony Koester will be the Eventmaster for this event. This will be an afternoon into evening event. Starting with a test and tune then in the evening will be an actual RallyCross. I know there were many who enjoyed the evening RallyCross last year, so if you missed that one, you should definitely try this event. Your Region will be extremely busy during September. The events coming up are 2 Road Races and 2 Solos. Starting the month over Labor Day weekend is a race at Mid-America Motorplex with our partners in MVRG, Des Moines Valley Region. The Wild & Wacky Driver s School/Regional and 4th Annual WHOOMAH Enduro, will be September 1st & 2nd. September 9th we will hold a Solo back at Lincoln Southwest High School with John Williams and Chuck Garcia as the Eventmaster. continued pg. 8 1

3 IT S WHOOMAH! ENDURO TIME AGAIN by Frank Safranek, Enduro Chair Online registration for MVRG s upcoming Sept 1-2 Wild & Wacky Drivers School / Regional and WHOOMAH Enduro is up & running. Direct links for drivers and workers are listed below. Yes, the date has moved again! The 4th Annual WHOOMAH! Enduro will be on September 1 (Saturday of Labor Day weekend). To entice both workers and drivers to MAM for the start of the holiday weekend, we again have 2 hours of racing scheduled -or seconds less than 2 hours for those really keeping track. T-shirts, provided through the generosity of our sponsors, will be given to all workers and enduro drivers and co-drivers. Also thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the unique place overall trophies have been increased - if two drivers are entered in the overall podium-finishing cars, we now have duplicate trophies for those finishing positions. Of course, the usual trophies for class winners will also be given out. Now for the final enticement. If you have signed in as an SCCA worker or driver, you will be offered a discount ticket price to the Saturday night concert being held at the track. 38 Special will be on board for the evening s entertainment beginning at 9:00 p.m., and a fireworks display is also planned by the track management. Please join us for the end of the MVRG 2007 racing season. Whether as a long-time driver, driving student, crew member or worker, we think we have a fun weekend planned for you. Also, if they are co-driving someone else s car (i.e. in the Enduro) in order to be able to register with it they will need to add that car to their garage on the DLB Racing registration web site. Kelley has posted this info in the forums, but if there is some way to please note this with the link info that would be great. I d appreciate if we can get this info and the forms sent previously up & running on the regional / MVRG web sites as soon as possible also, so those who prefer that route vs the online DLB registration can get the info as well. We re working on a short window between our late July event and this Labor Day one, so we want to do all we can to make it easy for people to find our event & help the registration numbers. 7 Catching Up with the Recent Events reported by Jean Smith The Back to School Points Solo took place on , hosted by Eventmasters Christy Carlson and Chris Clark. There was a turnout of 69 drivers, if my memory serves me right. We set up the course the day before, starting in the morning. Present were Christy and David, Chris Clark, Chuck Garcia, Kevin Welch, and myself. We used my truck to haul cones, which definitely made it go faster and beat the heat. 90 to 100 Degree temps were with us all weekend. After setting up we all met a Chipotles for lunch. The event went smoothly and quickly. There were 5 runs instead of the 4 planned. It was a fun course and easy to improve on. My car agreed with it, anyway. Due to the heat, the Club furnished a large cooler of bottled water, which was appreciated by all. Thanks to Sue and Justin Eckles for their help with Registration and Waivers. 8 RE Column continued..... On September 15 & 16th, your Region will put on a Double Regional Race along with Colorado Region at Motorsports Park Hastings for our first race at the new track in Hastings, Nebraska. I am looking forward to this new partnership with Colorado Region. Things are coming together very nicely and the group that I am talking with online seems easy to work with. It will by nice to finally meet them all in person to put a face with their address. As a reminder, Nebraska Region is still selling $250 noninterest bearing bonds (similar to the MAM bonds that NRSCCA used to start up racing with MVRG) to help with the funding of the racing at MPH. If you are interested in helping with this endeavor, please contact West Pierce for the bond paperwork. Finally, on September 30th, your Region will hold a Solo at Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Gary Graybill will be the Eventmaster for this Solo. If this month is not full enough, October starts right out with a RallyCross on the 7th. Mark Walker will be the Eventmaster for this event. This RallyCross will be a Central States RallyCross Championship Event and by attending this event our members will be eligible for a $100 discount to the RallyCross National Championship. Don t forget to consider candidates for the Board of Governors. We will have a meeting in the beginning of October, so watch the Exhaust Notes for a place and time for nominations. In order to be qualified for the Class Solo Points Award, you must have entered at least 4 events in the same class with the highest points being the winner.
