Hello to all car enthusiasts, Where to begin! The Rod Run, so there I was walking around talking to participants and who do I see, a Crazy Cool Canadian, I met two years ago at The Counts Car Show. He had told me at the Car Show he wanted to come down for the Rod Run, and he finally made it down, and with a sweet copper colored model A to boot! (A.) Pun intended. We had a great turn out, and we had the privilege to host many of our friends from all over our great country. We had cars from Canada, South Dakota, North Dakota, California, Illinois, Nebraska, and Wyoming. A very nice couple, Guy and Esther Allen from San Diego California, made their way to join up with the Count s for the Rod Run also. Thanks to everyone for participating in the Rod Run, and keeping the tradition alive. This summer has been filled with Car Show, Rod Runs, gatherings, drags, and many more events, so many in fact, that one gets no work done on their project when in attendance. I am actually looking forward to fall and winter, so I can get some work done on my project. This year so far has been a blast. I am looking forward to this fall as car point s season will come to an end, The Car Show Committee will start up full steam ahead, and garage tour will start taking place. Even though many Count s members head south for the winter, the club never goes stagnate. This year we have said fair well to some members as they embark on other journeys, and we have also gained some new member, and (friends) into our club, but never forget what it is really all about. Fun with cars! Every Tuesday night there is something going on, so if you re on the fence about stopping in, just go ahead and do it. You just might be surprised and you may even meet some neat ol boys! Don t forget we have a Facebook page now (Counts Car Club) which will help to keep everyone up to date with upcoming events. -Remember-Shiny side up and rubber side down! Chad Raterman, Prez

2 This photo was taken in the early 90 s of the Counts club cars parked on the edge of Canyon Lake across from Canyon Lake Park. About half of these members still active. They are Rush Elliot, Skip Abell, Gary Kreun, John Stauffacher, Garry McLaughlin, Jim Neuzil and Kurt Desinger. After that the Black Hills Rod Run moved to Highway 16 for several years and then went to Hill City for several years. Former associate member from the 60 s, Dale Grau, who lives in Rice Minnesota built this 1932 Ford roadster pickup two years ago and has already logged nearly 20,000 miles on it. It will be getting a real road test as he and two buddies from Wisconsin are driving their rods all the way to Baltimore, Maryland for the 2nd. Rodders Journal Revival event in late September and back.. It sounds like Dale s cars are built to drive so this should be a minor challenge. Good Luck, Dale. 3 . The responsibilities of maintaining a club house and the property that it sits on takes some dedicated club members that spend countless hours doing what is necessary to keep things looking good. With all the rain we had this spring the lower acre by the drainage ditch was over run with trash, weeds and long grass. A work day and evening in early June netted a great turnout and a bunch of work made the place look presentable again. Many thanks go out to those that helped and especially Steve Kroger, Bob Mallow and Skip Abell for all their extra time and equipment used Another note of thanks go out to former member, Erv Vogel who donated his 50/50 winnings at the Rod Run to the club to finish up our sprinkler system that was lacking some parts. Guy and Esther and Skip Abell also donated funds to complete the project. We really appreciate your donation and are so glad that you feel we still put on a real driving rod run. The sprinkler system is now fully functional due to effforts of Skip and Bob Diekmann for the final installation of all the parts to finish the sprinkler system. Thanks to the considerable rain that we were blessed with this summer the entire property looks fantastic. More thanks to Skip and his grandson for mowing the almost 2 acres of grass. 4 On the spur of the moment, 2 days notice, I was ed by the activities director at Echo Ridge retirement home to see if we could help her. She needed at least 10 cars to put on an early Father s Day car show for the residents of the retirement home, I got on the phone and called all the people that I thought might be able to do a show on FRIDAY afternoon at 1:30 to 3:30 pm. It was amazing how things mushroomed as we ended up with 28 cars that took the time to come up and visit with the residents and talk about their cars. It was a matter of friends inviting friends and club members contacting other members that made it all come together. I want to thank the Counts that could get away as well as the Dakotas Rods and Classics, and the Dakotas Chapter Studebaker club and a lot of other car guys that brought their rods & classic cars to show off to the residents. It was fun and thanks for the refreshments Chris. 5 On the second Saturday of June the Dakota Classics and Cruisers held a evening show at the Westside Culvers restaurant. Nearly 60 cars were in the parking lot during the 5 pm to 8 pm time frame. 7 RAPID CITY CAR SHOW AUGUST 3rd This show has been taking place for several years and it s all done with the phone calls of faithful employee Salena. This years show was one of the largest ever held at the Hardware Nice old Buick sdn. Cool highboy roadster Hank parking lot across from Baken Park. Over 40 cars showed up to visit and show off their vehicles to customers and friends alike. The store gave out free root beer and other flavor floats and a live disc jockey was on hand to play 50 s and 60 s music and give out door prizes, The Counts were well represented Fred Hehr s 70 SS 454 Chevelle Nice 50 s Ford pickup with 4 members and their cars.
