Bob Palma pulled into the parking lot in his 64 Daytona Convertible, top down! Larry Hopkins' 62 GT Hawk, Danny Taylor's 55 Speedster, and new Indy Chapter member Larry Kennedy with his recently acquired 1950 Studebaker joined two Model T's, a Hudson Convertible and a Avanti in the parking lot that usually has snow in it this time of year. Hopefully this 66 degree January day will be the start of early spring and car show season! Don't forget that chapter dues are due and hope to see everyone at next month s meeting! Nancy Bacon Indy Chapter President THE STUDEBAKER DRIVER S CLUB Meeting January 21, 2017 After a delightful lunch at the Pit Stop in Brownsburg, Nancy Bacon called the January meeting to order. 42 members and guests were in attendance. She started the meeting by saying THANK YOU to Charlotte & Howe Clark for hosting this month s meeting. Nancy then proceeded to Officer s Reports: Vice-President No news Secretary Diane was filling in for Sandy Fox Treasurer Tom Flynn reported a balance of $6, Activities Next meeting will be on Feb. 1:00 p.m. at George s Neighborhood Grill. Newsletter No report ANNOUNCEMENTS: Nancy reported that member Larry Main is battling bone cancer. She said that he is undergoing treatment, but experiencing no pain. Next, Nancy announced that one of our club members won the 2 nd prize in the recent Studebaker Museum Car Raffle. Jeff Westcott won $5,000.00! She also stated that she had received an from someone looking for a 1953 Starliner. Howe Clark said to send the guy his contact information. We had one new member: Larry Kennedy and his wife. Larry also brought his friend, Phil Sowers, as a guest. Ray Reeves introduced his guest, Barb Herm. 1

By a show of hands, it was voted to sponsor 3 trophies at the upcoming International Meet in South Bend. The funny thing was I was just talking to my son about new cars and to have them call was quite a surprise.

3 Welcome New Members Larry and Sue Kennedy 9350 Vandergriff Road Indianapolis, IN Land Cruiser 4-door sedan Member Wins Big at the 2016 Studebaker National Museum Raffle Every year the museum has held the raffle, I ve purchased 3 tickets. I don t do it to win the prize as I very rarely do, I consider it a donation to the museum. Well this year I received a surprise call on 12/13 around 6PM. They asked if I had entered the museum raffle and very quickly I realized why they were calling and I think my heart skipped a beat or two. I was told I won 2nd prize, which is $5000. The funny thing was I was just talking to my son about new cars and to have them call was quite a surprise. A couple of days later the paperwork arrived and I completed it, returned the documents and then a check arrived (minus taxes of course). I put the money into the Studebaker repairs fund and will use it to get the 61 Champ pickup restored. I plan on buying 3 tickets again next year. 4 This is a photo of my 1951 Commander Convertible which is now on display at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. The exhibit is of cars that were built in Indiana. It can be a bit tricky to see the restaurant in the strip mall so look for the long, black awning cross the front. This is the first time the club has met at George s, we hope you enjoy it. Our very own Bob Palma and his able assistant Jim Turner will commence with the auction after lunch, so bring an item for the auction, whether it is automotive related or for fun. Saturday, April 22 at 1:00 Nick and Jo Shaw are hosting lunch and a tour in Crawfordsville. Lunch is at Elk's Ridge at 3097 E. State Road 32 Crawfordsville, IN 47933, elksridge.net Price of the lunch package is $15.00 per person and includes a non-alcoholic beverage. Price does not include tax and tip. MENU choices are: --Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad - romaine, Parmesan croutons, roasted garlic dressing. --Spinach salad - fresh spinach, diced tomato, feta cheese, candied pecans, warm bacon vinaigrette. --Pork tenderloin - grilled or breaded, lettuce, tomato, Dijon aioli, brioche bun. --Pork BB - smoked pork shoulder, peach bbq sauce, Asian slaw, brioche bun. --Beef Cheddar Burger - lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion. Sandwiches served with french fries. Nick is also trying to schedule a visit to Ropkey Armor Museum near Crawsfordville. For those of you who not toured the museum, it is an extensive collection of military armory and memorabilia, from tanks to radios and everything in between. More info in the next Brickyard.
