1 NEWSLETTER NUMBER 3 JUNE 2014 Introduction Dear Friends, It was a great pleasure for me to meet you all in Nicosia, Cyprus last month. Meeting the Presidents, Secretaries General and Chefs de Mission who will come to EYOF 2015 brought home the reality that in in just 223 days time on 25 January 2015, the European NOCs will convene for a week of amazing sport! In giving our status report to the NOCs and in reviewing the content of this, our third Newsletter to NOCs, I see only too clearly how fast our work is progressing. The Communications Programme to our most important partners for the event The Teams has launched into the pre-operations phase, with the Chefs de Mission Seminar looming on the not too distant horizon. We are really looking forward to welcoming the Chefs de Mission to Vorarlberg Liechtenstein next October and the team is working hard to deliver an interesting and informative programme. 2 NOC SERVICES Centralised Operations for NOCS at the Haus des Gastes The Haus des Gastes is located in the heart of Schruns, just 200m from the Transport Hub at the Schruns Train Station. The Haus des Gastes (HDG) is presently home to the Montafon Tourism Office, but during EYOF 2015, the building will take on a whole new aspect. While the Tourism Office will continue to operate, the common spaces will host the following: Main Accreditation Centre Located on the ground floor of the HDG, the Main Accreditation Centre will handle Team and Media Accreditation distribution in a comfortable working area. NOC Services & Service Centre All our operations will be centralised in the HDG, giving NOCs the best possible level of service a one-stop-shop to obtain all the necessary information to carry out Festival-time administration. Introductory meetings with the Chefs de Mission will take place on 23 January on the first floor. Chefs de Mission Meetings will be held on level -1 (see Kultursaal below). A second smaller meeting room is also available on the upper level of the building. NOCs wishing to use the meeting space will be able to submit a request to NOC Services to reserve space free of charge. The NOC Service Centre provide notice boards, pigeon holes and functional help desks as well as a working space for NOCs. Main Media Centre The Main Media Centre will be located next to the NOC Services on the first floor with all the usual Media facilities. A small meeting room is available where NOC interviews with the Media can be organised. Press Conferences will usually be organised in the Kultursaal (see below). Sport Information Desk. The Sport Information Desk (SID) is also on the first floor of HDG. It will provide NOCs with all the latest information concerning sport events. Kultursaal - Chefs de Mission Hall The Kultursaal is located in the basement (level -1) of the HDG. The hall will host the Chefs de Mission Meetings, Medical Meeting, Team Captains Meetings and Press Conferences during Festival-time. NOCs wishing to reserve this space may submit a request to NOC Services (see above). NOC Chefs de Mission Seminar NOCs have now received their invitations to the Chefs de Mission Seminar which will be held from 9 to 12 October 2014 in Vorarlberg. The Seminar will consist of venue tours and a plenary session supplemented on request by one-on-one meetings with the NOC Relations team. NOC Delegates attending the Chef de Mission Seminar will be accommodated at the Sporthotel Silvretta Montafon located in the heart of the Montafon in the village of Gaschurn. The EYOF 2015 team is looking forward to welcome all the delegates!

3 ALPY the Marmot Mascot! ALPY the marmot has been unveiled as the official mascot of the EYOF The students of the Textile, Clothing and Technology branch of the HTL Dornbirn were in charge of the design as part of the EYOF legacy project, working with local schools to encourage creativity and professional development. Alpy s home is the Alps, host region of the European Youth Olympic Festival and he represents regional wildlife and nature. This friendly marmot also expresses our desire to protect the environment by careful planning and use of available and sustainably planned resources for Sporting Events at the European Youth Olympic Festival. His name is derived from the word Alps' and 'Y' presenting the Youth of the Youth Olympic Festival. It also includes the initials of the host countries Austria and Liechtenstein. Show Alpy the world why not show everyone, where Alpy has travelled? NOCs and their friends can download Alpy from the EYOF website: Take a photo with him in a great location, tag the picture with #ALPY and #eyof2015 and send it to our office (office@eyof2015.org).

4 EYOF Competition Venues News Tschagguns / Montafon Nordic Sportzentrum (MNS) I Ski Jumping / Nordic Combined As mentioned in the first newsletter in January, Montafon Nordic Centre with its new ski jumps has been built in Tschagguns. At the end of June the official opening will take place and the Centre will be fully operational and ready to host the EYOF Opening Ceremony and as well the Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined events for the EYOF Travelling to the EYOFs - Bludenz Train Station If teams decide to travel in an environmentally friendly way they will arrive at Bludenz Train Station which serves as one of the official ports of entry for EYOF Bludenz Train Station is the closest main line train station (with international connections) to the host city Schruns/Tschagguns (distance about 14km). It is run by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Teams arriving at Bludenz Train Station will be transferred to the Montafon by bus which takes about 20 minutes. Alternatively, clients can take a regional train (Montafoner Bahn) to Schruns Train Station where further access to the EYOF transport system is provided. For further information and train timetables, please visit: Volunteer Recruitment No major sport event can be successfully organised without the valuable support of its volunteers. The EYOF 2015 Organising Committee is currently recruiting these helping hands and we are expecting more than a thousand persons to join forces with us in the respective Functions. A Street Team with a promotion trailer is participating in various open air events and volunteers can sign up here. Meetings are also being held with the many different clubs in the Montafon region, ranging from Line Dance Groups to Carnival Clubs. Presentations are also being organised in high schools and other institutions to inform youngsters about EYOF and increase the interest in volunteering. We are confident we will recruit more than 1,100 volunteers for this fantastic event, says Elke Koehnke, EYOF Volunteer Manager. 5 One Valley One Village The Montafon is a great region with lots of tradition and friendly hosts & guests! In January 2015 the Montafon a 39km long valley, home to eleven towns & villages, will welcome all participating National Olympic Committees & become One Valley One Village during the European Youth Olympic Festival in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein Over 30 different Hotels & Guesthouses are already looking forward to acting as hosts for the NOCs, opening not only their hotels, but also their hearts to all participants. The towns in the Montafon valley, located between 650 and 1430 metres above sea level, distinguish themselves with comprehensive recreational and sporty options, alongside the extraordinary landscape and are surrounded by mountains up to 3,312 metres. In Winter, the Montafon transforms into a true winter sports El Dorado with options for skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, ice skating and much more. In summer, the comprehensive network of tours offers hikers as well as cyclists and/or mountain bikers numerous options for exploring and getting to know the beautiful surroundings. EYOF 2015 is offering a unique experience in Olympic Youth Festival lodging: One Valley One Village will not only include pleasant accommodation, but also an enjoyable and unforgettable stay, a home away from home with warm and welcoming hosts. Visa As a first information please note, that participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Belarus will need to apply for a Schengen Visa in order to travel to the European Youth Olympic Games in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein Members of the delegations of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia who do not have Biometric passports will also need to apply for a Schengen Visa. EYOF 2015 strongly advises these NOCs to obtain biometric passports for all members of the delegation to permit travel to Austria and Liechtenstein without Visa. Detailed information about the visa procedure will be included in the Accreditation Mail out on June 20.
