1 L i n n Linn County 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational Saturday, June 2, 2018 Check-in 8:00 a.m.; Opening ceremonies at 8:30; Shooting begins at 9:00 a.m. See registration for discipline scheduled start times. The Linn County 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational is open to all Missouri 4-H members enrolled in shooting sports for the current 4-H program year. The 4-H member must be enrolled in the specific discipline in which they are competing. Competitors may enter 2 shooting events and Hunting and Outdoor Skills as a third event. The Linn County 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational will include the following disciplines: Archery: Compound/Recurve.22 Smallbore Rifle Muzzleloading Air Pistol Hunting and Outdoor Skills Age Divisions: Three age classes will compete. Competitors must compete within their own age group per specified age range. Age is as of January 1 of the current program year. Junior Ages 8 10 Intermediate Ages Senior Ages Awards will be given for the top three individual scores in each discipline. Awards will be handed out following the completion of each event. Entry fees must accompany registration forms signed by a certified instructor and club leader, and include a current 4-H health form, by May 15, Any registration forms postmarked after May 15, 2018, you need to call and make sure entry can be accepted. Registrations after May 15 are subject to a $10 per event late fee. Inclement Weather: We will have this contest rain or shine. The only exception will be if there is a safety issue. Location: If weather conditions would make it unsafe for participants and families, the certified shooting sports Linn County Fairgrounds - leaders Idalis would Drive, Brookfield, decide to MO delay 64628or dismiss. However, if possible, we will continue as planned. We will not refund fees due to weather, for no-shows, or for cancellations. (South of Hwy 36 at Wal-Mart, through the cemeteries, south on the gravel road to the swimming pool fairgrounds is southeast across from the pool) Location: Linn County Fair Grounds Idalis Drive, Brookfield, MO From Hwy 11, take Park Circle Drive past Walmart and the cemeteries. Go South on Inman Drive and take a left on Ida Drive. The Linn County Fair Grounds and Shooting Range is located directly south of the Brookfield Aquatic Center. Linn County Fair Grounds There will be concessions on site and will consist of sandwiches, chips, candy and drinks. All attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. You may also bring shades, but they may only be set up in areas designated by the Range Officers. Parking will be inside the Fairground gates in designated areas. There are indoor restrooms on the grounds.

3 GENERAL RULES SAFETY IS THE PRIMARY CONSIDERATION FOR EACH PARTICIPANT, COACH, PARENT AND SPECTATOR! All competitors must have completed the 4-H Shooting Sports Firearms Safety Program prior to competing. Verification of this requirement is included on the registration form and must be signed by a 4-H certified instructor from the county in which the competitor is enrolled. 4-H Shooting Sports Rules will be in effect. Any violation of safety rules are grounds for immediate disqualification. NO WARNINGS WILL BE GIVEN! Each contestant will wear appropriate eye and ear protection for their discipline. All firearms and bows must in kept in a case at all times except when on the range and you receive instruction from the range officer to uncase your firearm/bow to participate in the event. Range officials will check all firearms, ammunition, and all archery equipment prior to its use in competition. Unsafe equipment will not be allowed on the range. Open bolt indicators will be used all firearms. Ammunition - participants must furnish their own ammunition. No cell phones or electronics on the range. All footwear must have a closed toe. Clothing with alcohol or tobacco advertisements, sexual connotations, inflammatory & other inappropriate messages or images as determined by match officials are prohibited.
4 TARGET 1/10 scale metallic silhouettes DISTANCE AND COURSE OF FIRE TIME LIMIT AIR PISTOL NRA ½ DISTANCE SILHOUETTE Range Officers: Bob McCollum and Jason Sherwood 10 chickens at 5 yards, 10 pigs at 6.25 yards, 10 turkeys at 7.5 yards, 10 rams at 9 yards in banks of 5 targets and shooting from left to right on each bank of targets. 30 seconds ready time and 2 ½ minute firing time for each bank of 5 targets. EQUIPMENT Any air pistol,.177 caliber, equipped with any sights that do not project an image on the target and having a safe trigger. SHOOTING POSITION SCORING Only standing positions may be used, two-hand holds permitted but the hands and arms must be free of the body and may not touch beyond the wrists (NRA Rule 5.8). Any target knocked over or knocked off the stand in sequence is scored as a hit (+1). Targets missed, spun but not knocked down, or hit out of sequence is scored a miss (0). NGB RULES INFORMATION NRA Pistol Silhouette Rules CS16830 (January 2011 Edition) book.pdf TIE BREAKER SPOTTER Tie scores for the top 3 individuals will be broken. In the event of a tied score, the score card will be reviewed and the shooter with the most Ram hits will be declared the winner. If tie remains, then by the most Turkey hits, then most Pig hits. If all animal hits are the same, a shoot off on Rams will determine the winner. The shooters will fire alternate shots until one shooter misses with the other shooter hitting the target. Shooters will be allowed one warmup shot with their spotter prior to firing their first tie breaker. Each shooter may have one spotter with them on the firing line who may have scopes and binoculars to advise the shooter where shots are hitting. The spotter will also keep time and advise the shooter in a quiet voice. The spotter may not touch the shooter or the shooter s equipment after the shooter assumes their position on the firing line. Spotters can only be a registered competitor within that event.
5 Archery NFAA 300 Rules Range Officers: James McCollum and Amy Hoerrmann Target: 40cm Indoor target- Single bull or 5-spot. We use the Dual 40cm target. (This is the old event that we have always shot) Two Equipment Classes: Compound and Recurve/longbow. Competitors may shoot in both categories, but this will count as two of their shooting events: Course of Fire/Age divisions (Age is as of December 31st of the 4-H year) a. Junior (age 8-10) will shoot 60 arrows at 10 yards. b. Intermediate (age 11-13) will shoot 60 arrows at 15 yards. c. Senior (age 14-18) will shoot 60 arrows at 20 yards. Each participant will shoot 14 ends of 5 arrows each: 2 ends for practice (10 arrows) and 12 ends for score (60 arrows) per line. Maximum score is 300 points. Time Limits: A maximum of 4 minutes per end of 5 arrows is allowed.
6 .22 Rifle Silhouette Rules Range Officer: Ken Polley Standard (1/5 scale) small-bore silhouettes will be used as targets. They will be placed at one half the standard small-bore range. The course of fire will consist of: Stage 1 10 shots at Chickens 22 yards Stage 2 10 shots at Boars 33 yards Stage 3 10 shots at Turkeys 42 yards Stage 4 10 shots at Rams 55 yards 1. The targets must be shot left to right. Bottom row followed by the top row. Targets knocked off the stand will count as a hit, a toppled target that does not leave the stand will count as a miss. 2. A maximum time period of 5 minutes will be allowed for each stage. All four stations will be fired at the same time. Competitors will rotate through the stages in sequence, beginning at stage 1. Magazines may be loaded during a load/preparation period, but a round may not be chambered until the commence fire command is given. 3. Any 22 cal. Rim-fire rifle (no 22 Mag.) may be used. Any sight system including scopes will be allowed. Each competitor must provide their own ammo that is to be checked by the range officer when they register. The ammo must be standard velocity ammo normally used in 4-H competition. No high velocity ammo will be allowed on the range. 4. Intermediates and Seniors will shoot from the standing position. No slings or shooting coats will be allowed. Junior shooters may shoot from a prone position. Junior shooters may use a sling, glove, or both in the any position class if they wish, but coats are not allowed in any class. 5. Junior shooters may be verbally coached and physically assisted during loading. Intermediate and senior shooters may be verbally coached by a single individual outside the shooting box, but no physical assistance may be given during a stage. 6. Contestants or coaches may be asked to serve as scorekeepers or safety officers. 7. All participants, coaches and spectators entering the firing range must wear ear and eye protection at all times during firing. 8. All firearms must be cased or have actions open whenever on the range except during firing. All firearms must have a chamber flag or OBI in the action when not in use. 9. The range will not be available for sight-in prior to the competition. Therefore, you will need to be sighted- in prior to arrival. 10. In the event of a rule discrepancy a decision will be made by the small-bore rifle Range Officer. 11. In the event of a tie, the contestant with the most Ram hits will be declared the winner. If they have the same number, turkeys, boars, then chickens will be used to break the tie.
7 Hunting and Outdoor Skills Leader: Ken Polley and James McCollum Components of the Hunting Skills event: There are three (3) components to Hunting Skills. A) Written test Each age division will have its own age appropriate test. Test will consist of multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blanks. May also include ranking questions (rank 4 items from best choice to worst) B) Wildlife Identification Students will have to identify parts of North American game animals including: o skulls, fur, tracks, pictures of animals, horns, wings, scat C) Compass Course Junior participants will run one (1) course Intermediate and Seniors will run two (2) courses Written Test Content: Wildlife habits and habitat Orienteering questions about how to use and read USGS Quadrangle maps GPS questions basic Basic First Aid questions General and basic questions about firearms, archery equipment and about hunting with firearms and archery Outdoor Ethics Hunting safety Equipment: Clipboard, pencil, any other supplies needed for the written test will be provided. Compass Course Procedure: The course will be laid out using what is commonly known as a Silva Compass Course. It consists of a row of numbered flags in a straight line. Participants will be given a course card that dictates starting at a specific flag number. Two or more compass headings and distance will be given on the card that if accomplished correctly will bring the participant back to another specific flag. Score is calculated from how close the participant comes to the designated end flag. Equipment: Participant may provide their own compass, but it must be approved by the range officer. All necessary equipment including the compass, will be provided. Restrictions Participants must not possess references; resources or aides of any kind; written, recorded, or electronic. There shall be no communications between the participants, coaches or other individuals during the competition.
8 Muzzle Loading Range Officers: Ken Polley and Bob McCollum 1. Each shooter must be accompanied to the loading table with a coach whose job is to monitor loading and safety procedures of the participant during competition. 2. Each shooter will shoot from standing position only. See copy of the Standing Position Rule included. A. Legal position would be same as Air Rifle and.22 Rifles. B. Slings or Shooting Sticks (Rests) are not allowed unless at discretion of range official. 3. Competition will be in one event, with two (2) age classes. A. Intermediate (11-13 Years of Age) B. Seniors (14-18 Years of Age) 4. Course of Fire: Juniors and Senior will shoot the same distances and targets. 200 points possible. A. Five shots at Bullseyes target at 50 yards. (50 points) NMLRA TG Unlimited Sighters 20-minute time limit B. Five shots at NMLRA 18 th Century Bottles Novelty Target B-1 (50 Points) C. Five shots at Target No. 901 C.M.T. Critter target. (50 Points) D. Five shots at steel targets at vary distance. (50 Points: 10 points per hit) E. If a tie breaker is needed, the high point critter target will be used. 5. EQUIPMENT A. Rifle: Caliber -.54 maximum and.32 minimum calibers permitted. Ignition - may be by No. 11 percussion cap, musket cap, or 209 primers. No flintlock. Traditional or in-line rifles and set or double triggers are permissible. Sights - Open iron, aperture and fiber optic sights will be permitted. No optical, telescopic or electronic sights. B. Shooting Supplies All loading supplies must be provided by the shooter. Powder limit we be a maximum of 60 grains. Powders: Black powder or equivalent black powder substitute. Bring powder in original container and show to range officials for approval before dispensing into powder flask/horn. No. 11 caps, musket caps, or 209 primers are permitted. These must be approved by range officer prior to loading. Round ball only. All round balls must be soft lead in composition. C. Equipment Failures 20 minutes allowed May finish with borrowed rifle. 6. SAFETY The range rod or ramrod will serve as an empty barrel indicator and must be in the barrel whenever removed from the case except when; advancing to firing line, returning to the loading table after firing, during the cleaning, swabbing, or loading process, or when loaded.
