1 Notable Notes The 2008 Novice Cup and President s Cup event was a true test of riding AND camping skill. Saturday morning temperatures hovered around 15 degrees and made both motorcycles and riders difficult to start. The competitors all coped with the cold temps in their own unique ways; some escaped to the A-OK hotel in Muenster, the trials faithful stayed overnight at the second gate in their campers though at least one of the travel trailers suffered frozen water lines and no hot water for showers. However, the Texas boys were all humbled by the camping prowess of two NEOTT club members: Scott Williams and Steve Krabill. These guys drove all the way from Tulsa and spent two nights TENT CAMPING! Sketchy reports say that Scott was seen standing outside his tent in the early hours of Saturday morning screaming into the sky, Is that all you got? Fifteen measly degrees? I LAUGH at your so-called COLD HA! (Editor s note: this may have been misreported ) Scott went on to take second place in the Expert class both days while Steve thawed out nicely and WON the Novice Cup! Scott did say that he always tries to find the good in every situation and with adversity comes opportunity; you just have to find it. Now where did I store my tent?... Unfortunately, not everyone shared Scott s silver-lining view. You have to know that at a prestigious event like the Novice Cup / President s Cup you re going to be faced with top-level section difficulty and riders need to be on their game to do well. This year s sections were deliciously difficult in keeping with tradition, and the combination of cold and the added technical challenge yielded some high scores and a fair number of DNF s. The President s Cup is an event that showcases the abilities of the afternoon class riders. At the end of the day s competition, the top five master riders have the option to compete for the President s Cup by riding each of three exhibition sections three times. The scores from the main trial and those of the exhibition sections are added together to determine the winner of the cup. This year, four of the five master rider s opted to compete for the cup: Glenn Roblin, Kyle Wedgeworth, Josiah Mizell, and David Mizell. Trials master Tom Batchelor created three exhibition sections that combined some nice technical challenges as well as some, they can t ride that obstacles. The Masters gave Tom a run for his money by carding some very low scores on his very difficult sections. A lively crowd of spectators both trials riders and other dirt bikers cheered the masters as they pushed each other to ride at the top of their ability. Josiah Mizell and Glenn Roblin both ended the main competition day with 2 marks each for the whole trial. When the two-stroke smoke had cleared, young Roblin had notched 5 marks in exhibition while Master Mizell had zero thereby making Josiah Mizell the winner of the President s Cup for Congratulations to Josiah and all the master-class competitors and thank you for putting on a great show! The treasurer s report was read by Treasurer Lynne Duval and accepted by the attendees. Discussion of the individual class awards for the Texas State Series. All events will use the same medallion-type award. All the awards will be available in plenty of time for the start of the Series. The new awards have been sourced in an attempt to keep costs in check. All of the competition classes for the 2008 Series will be the same as they were for last year. Ray and Glenn Roblin will be the trials masters for Round 5 (Saturday, March 29) of the Texas State Series at Muenster. The president of the NTTA is still looking for a member-volunteer to step forward to accept the trials master role for Round 6 (Sunday, March 30) at Muenster It was suggested that all pre-entries for Rounds 5 & 6 be mailed to the Duval household instead the Batchelor home for more expedient record-keeping. This will be noted on the flyer for those rounds. The next NTTA club meeting will be held at the Spaghetti Warehouse / West End location / Dallas, TX at 7:30 p.m. on March 6, The president adjourned the meeting at 8:46 p.m.
