3 Talas Dryer General Information Currently electric motors with low insulation resistance are either replaced or taken to a drying oven. The Talas Dryer constantly monitors the winding insulation resistance and keeps the insulation dry at all times. The fully automated drying procedure stops after the insulation resistance has reached the specified value. TD-30/50 The Talas Dryer is connected to two of the phases and the ground of the electric motor feed circuit. The unit itself is powered by the mains electricity ( VAC) and has a RS485 interface with Modbus protocol for transferring data to the Talas Monitoring system and most process control systems. The Talas Monitoring service allows the user to monitor electric motors from any computer or smart device. SMS and notifications can also be activated. 5 Talas Measurer Talas Measurer 50, 105 and 250 VDC Talas Measurer 50, 105 and 250 VDC are automatic insulation resistance monitoring devices for electric motors (AC and DC). The Talas Measurer is recommended to be installed close to the motor control center (MCC) and is connected to one phase and the ground of the electric motor feed circuit. Talas Measurer 50/105VDC (MCC) The Talas Measurer 50/105VDC (MCC) is an automatic insulation resistance monitoring device for electric motors (AC and DC) mounted directly on the motor control center (MCC) or other electric cabinet. It is connected to one phase and the ground of the electric motor feed circuit. 8 Talas Portable Dryer General Information Currently electric motors with low insulation resistance are either replaced or taken to the drying oven. Portable Talas Dryer can dry the motor without time consuming disassembly. The fully automated drying procedure stops after the insulation resistance has reached the specified value. PTD90 The device is connected to two phases and the ground of the electric motor feed circuit by convenient alligator clips (also widely used for car battery charging). It is powered by the mains electricity ( VAC) and includes a cellular modem for transferring operational and measurement data. The Talas Monitoring service allows its users to monitor their electric motors from any computer or smart device. SMS and/or notifications are also available, for example, signaling about the end of the drying process. 10 Talas Leaker TEL60 General Information The Talas Leaker is an automatic device for monitoring alternating current (AC) leakage. Unlike a residual current device (RCD), ours allows full monitoring of leakage current and notifies when its value is increasing. Monitoring the leakage current makes it possible to identify problems prior to RCD cutting the power. The device is installed on a DIN rail in close proximity to the monitored equipment. The high accuracy clamp sensor is placed around the three phases and the neutral or protective earth (PE) cable. Installation is quick, easy and can be done without disconnecting any cables. The simple design of the Talas Leaker makes it easy to relocate the device. Also available as two clamps-one control unit. 12 Talas Starter Harmonic free, multifunctional, ready to use AC motor control center with reduced current soft start. General Information During direct on-line start of asynchronous motors, the shaft accelerates rapidly resulting in increased starting current. This causes shock loading which can result in permissible values being exceeded. Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and Solid State Soft Starters are widely used to solve this problem, however this is not always considered to be the best option based on lower reliability, increased maintenance cost, complexity of operation and/or higher investment cost. The Talas Starter is an off-the-shelf electric motor control center designed for shock-free soft starting of motors for pumps, fans, conveyer belts, geared traveling and traversing cranes. Its design reduces starting current and torque; the Talas Starter guarantees enhanced reliability, energy efficiency, higher service performance of electric motor drives and cost savings. Energy Efficiency Power factor (Соs j) of asynchronous motors (e.g. with capacity up to 18 kw) depends on rated speed and design features and, as a rule, would not exceed the value of When sizing an electric motor, it is common to oversize the motor in case of short-term overload situations. As a result, motors are mostly under loaded, and factual operating Соs j decreases. According to statistics, the factual average operating Соs j can drop down to When electric motors are operated at a constant rate but mostly at very light loads (escalators, conveyors, ski lifts etc.), the average daily Соs j can drop down as low as to Variable Frequency Drives do help correcting the power factor but since the use of power factor correcting capacitors is not allowed with VFDs, the power factor will remain low when electric motors are operated at light loads (Соs j < 0.5). The use of such capacitors is also not allowed with solid state soft starters. The Talas Starter is designed to activate power factor correcting capacitors after the soft start phase. Capacitance is specified to match the rated Соs j of the electric motor and can be adjusted to the factual load. Continuous power factor compensation while in operation helps to increase power factor up to Higher power factor means smaller transformers, circuit breakers, wires and cables; and overall better energy efficiency. 11

15 Talas Auxiliaries TMX3-50A TATEX-10A Talas Multiplexer The Talas Multiplexer is a special junction box that allows one Talas Dryer device to be connected to 2 or 3 motors. The Multiplexer is a costeffective solution when several motors are being operated from one electrical room. Talas ATEX Box The Talas ATEX Box is a VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) certified junction box for feeding measuring and drying current to Ex-classified circuits and motors. It is installed next to the Talas Dryer. Its compact size and high IP rating (IP65) makes installation easy and flexible. This ATEX Box is available for all Talas Dryers. Talas Indication Light Box (Mimic Panel) Talas Electric Oy can supply an indication light box together with its Measurers. This mimic panel displays all important alerts and operational statuses which can be checked directly in the field.
