The Bobcats own an record against the Bearkats in San Marcos since The visiting team has won the last two games played between the two schools. Sam Houston State edged Texas State on Nov. 15, 2007 and Texas State won a overtime decision on Nov. 22, LAST TIME OUT In a game of two nationally-ranked teams tied for first place in the Southland Conference standings, Texas State suffered a heartwrenching loss against McNeese State when Josh Lewis kicked a 28-yard field goal with 1:30 left to play. The kick by Lewis capped a 15-play, 74-yard drive consuming 7:19 in the fourth quarter. Texas State quarterback Bradley George engineered a possible game-tying drive when he drove the Bobcats down the field to McNeese State s 39-yard line. However, McNeese defensive back Malcol Bronson ended Texas State s late rally when he intercepted George s pass at McNeese State s 10 yard line. That ended a streak of 210 straight passes thrown by George without an interception. Texas State scored the first points of the game when George hit Mishak Rivas on a 17-yard touchdown pass to cap a 10-play, 80- yard drive after receiving the opening kickoff. \ After McNeese answered with a three-yard TD run by Todd Pendland, Texas State opened a 20-7 lead when Alvin Canady scored on a pair of touchdown runs. The first TD run was a five-yard rush over right end with 3:18 left in the first quarter. The second came with 8:19 left in the first half when Canady scored on a 12-yard touchdown run on a sweep around right end. The Cowboys closed out the first half with a 33-yard touchdown run by Pendland and a two-yard pass from Derrick Fourroux to make the halftime score McNeese took its first lead of the game in the third quarter when Pendland scored on a five-yard run. The Bobcats answered with a 14-yard touchdown run to tie the score at before Lewis kicked his game-winning field goal. George completed 23 or 41 passes for 285 yards and a touchdown before throwing the interception. Canady gained 60 yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground for the Bobcats. Fourroux connected on 17 of 23 passes for 222 yards, while Pendland also ran for 187 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries for the Cowboys.

Texas State has a closed locker room policy after games. At home games, individual players and coaches will be made available to media members for postgame interviews inside the theatre meeting room of the End Zone Complex only through request and approval of the sports information and coaching staffs. On the road, the locker room situation will dictate postgame protocol, please consult the Texas State SID Rick Poulter. Head coach Brad Wright will address the assembled media only after his postgame radio show responsibilities have been completed both at home and on the road. Coach Wright will address the media in the theatre room prior to any player comments. WEEKLY PRACTICES All practices will be open to the media during the season. Texas State players and coaches will be available post-practice to the media on Monday-Thursday only. Players and coaches will not be available to the media postpractice on Fridays. Media members are requested to schedule post-practice interviews with individual players through the Texas State sports information staff. BOBCATS ON TELEVISION Texas State appear on the Southland Conference Television Network for the second straight week and third time overall when the Bobcats pl.ay host to McNeese State on Nov. 14. Texas State won both of its previous two games that were televised by the Network with a victory over Texas Southern and a victory at Central Arkansas. In addition, all three games are or have been video streamed on the Southland Conference website, Texas State s home football games are video streamed on the official Texas State Athletics website, com with an all-access pass. BOBCATS ON THE RADIO All Texas State football games can be heard in the San Marcos area on KTSW-FM 89.9 beginning with a pregame tailgating show that begins 90 minutes before each kickoff. The official Texas State football pregame show featuring interviews with head coach Brad Wright, assistant coaches and Bobcat players starts 45 minutes prior to each kickoff. During the game, Brant Freeman calls the play-by-play, and Bill Culhane provides color commentary. In addition, fans can follow each game statistically on the website as well with game tracker or the All-Access pass allows fans to video and audio stream the game on as well. Austin and at 19th-ranked Central Arkansas The Bobcats enter Saturday s game with a 6-4 overall record and are tied with Southeastern Louisiana for third place in the SLC standings, one game back of Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State The win at Central Arkansas was Texas State s first win over the Bears in a three-year series that began in 2007 The Bobcats became the first SLC team to play three straight games against nationally ranked teams since Southeastern Louisiana played No. 14 Texas State, No. 23 Northwestern State and No. 20 McNeese State in 2005 this season Texas State played against 11th-ranked Stephen F. Texas State did not play football in 1942, 1945 and The Bobcats have won 11 Conference championships during their history, including last season when Texas State won their first outright Conference title and 2005 season when Texas State was co-champion of the Southland Conference. Saturday s game is a very special day for 14 members of the 2009 Texas State football team as it will be the final home game of their collegiate careers. BACK TO BACK WINNING SEASONS Texas State improved its overall record to 6-3 and that guarantees that the Bobcats will have a winning season for the second straight year after posting an 8-5 mark in It marks the first backto-back winning seasons for Texas State since 1990 and 1991 when the Bobcats finished those seasons with 6-5 and 7-4 records, respec- BOBCAT NOTES tively. In addition to the 8-5 record last season, Texas State advanced to the NCAA Division I FCS Playoffs for the second time in four years. 15 WINS IN TWO REGULAR SEASONS If Texas State wins Saturday s game against Sam Houston State it would give the Bobcats 15 wins over the course of two seasons. It would mark the first time since 1983 that the Bobcats have won 15 regular season games over the course of two seasons. The Bobcats had a 9-1 regular season record before advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA FCS Playoffs in 2005 and won five games in 2004 and five in TEXAS STATE AT BOBCAT STADIUM The Bobcats will look to win their fourth home game of the season when they play host to Sam Houston State. Texas State fell to 3-2 this season in home games with last week s loss against McNeese State. Texas State s three wins this season came against Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern and Angelo State. The two losses were against McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana. The loss to McNeese State also gives the Bobcats an all-time record of in games played at Bobcat Stadium. Texas State began playing on their home field in 1981 and had a 6-1 mark at home that season. This season s 3-2 record in home games came after Texas State posted a 3-3 mark in home games during each of the past three years, The Bobcats won a school record nine home games in 2005 when they finished with a 9-1 record in home contests. In 2002, the stadium was renamed Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium in honor of the school s highly successful head coach and former athletics director. In his first seasons as head coach, Wacker had a 42-8 record and led Texas State to the 1981 and 1982 NCAA Division II national championships. BOBCATS ON THE ROAD Texas State finished its 2009 season with a 3-2 record in road games after its the victory at No. 19 Central Arkansas. The Bobcats also won road contests with a triumph at Northwestern State on Oct. 24 and a victory at Nicholls on Oct. 17. Texas State opened the season with a loss at then #15 FBS-ranked TCU on Sept. 19 and a setback at Southern Utah on Oct. 3. This marks the second straight season that the Bobcats have won each of their Southland Conference road games and gives Texas State seven straight wins in SLC road games. Texas State is 3-0 in SLC road contests this year after winning all four SLC road games in It is the second longest road winning streak in SLC road games by current SLC members. McNeese State won nine straight SLC road games in Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin won five straight SLC road contests. Texas State s win at Nicholls marked the first time the Bobcats had won a game in Thibodaux since Texas State had lost four straight games at Nicholls before last Saturday s win. Last season, Texas State won SLC road games at McNeese State, Stephen F. Austin, Southeastern Louisiana and Sam Houston State. 5-2 SLC RECORD Texas State looks to equal its 5-2 Southland Conference play with a victory over Sam Houston State. It would mark the first time in school history that the Bobcats won five SLC games in back to back seasons since joining the league in The five wins also would equal the highest single season total for a Bobcat team in Southland Conference play. Texas State was 5-2 in 2000, 5-1 in 2005 and 5-2 last season. The Bobcats were SLC co-champions in 2005 and won their first outright SLC championship and first outright conference championship since Texas State has already surpassed its best twoyear Southland Conference record with nine SLC wins in the last two seasons. The Bobcats have won at least six games in back to back seasons one other time since becoming a NCAA Division I school and that was in 1990 and 1991 when Texas State finished with a 6-5 and 7-4 records, respectively. ONE OF NATION S TOP OFFENSES Texas State enters Saturday s game against Sam Houston State ranked among the nation s Top 11 FCS offenses with an average of yards per game. The Bobcats have gained over 400 yards of offense in five games this season. Texas State gained 463 yards against Angelo State, 525 yards versus Texas Southern, 412 at Southern Utah, 541 yards against Southeastern Louisiana, 480 yards at Nicholls, and 450 yards at Northwestern State. NATION S EIGHTH-BEST PASSING OFFENSE Texas State enters Saturday s game ranked seventh among NCAA FCS leaders in passing offense with yards per game. The Bobcats have gained over 300 yards through the air in two of their last three games, and five times overall this season. Texas State threw for 301 yards at Central Arkansas after passing for 324 yards against Stephen F. Austin, a season-best 337 yards against Southeastern Louisiana, 325 yards versus Texas Southern and 328 yards against Angelo State. The Bobcats also threw for 291 yards against Stephen F. Austin. The Bobcats gained 285 yards passing against McNeese State. The Bobcats also enter the game ranked second among Southland Conference schools behind national leader Stephen F. Austin. NATION S 18TH-BEST SCORING OFFENSE The Bobcats enter this weekend with the nation s 18th-best scoring offense with an average of points per game after scoring 186 points in the first six Southland Conference games this season. Texas State has topped 40 points three times this season with a season-best 52 points versus Texas Southern, 50 points against Southeastern Louisiana and 48 points against Angelo State. He caught nine passes for 91 yards and a touchdown against Stephen F. Austin. Griggs also recorded a career-best 11 receptions for 129 yards at Northwestern State. Earlier this season, Griggs caught 10 passes for a career-best 142 yards against Texas Southern and nine passes for 102 yards against Southeastern Louisiana. DILLARD IN THE TD COLUMN Daren Dillard caught his fifth touchdown pass of the season at Central Arkansas to equal his total during the 2008 season. Dillard also caught a six-yard TD reception at Nicholls, a 10-yard touchdown reception against Southeastern Louisiana, a 16-yard touchdown pass at TCU and an 11-yard TD reception against Texas Southern. Dillard also returned an on-sides kick by Angelo State 38 yards for a TD as well. OUT OF THE BACKFIELD Senior running back Alvin Canady is one of Texas State s leaders in receptions for the second time in the last three years after catching 31 passes for 280 yards and one touchdown in the first 10 games this season. In 2007, Canady ranked second among Texas State leaders with 37 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns. Canady also has rushed for a team-best 466 yards and eight touchdowns on 112 carries this season. IMMEDIATE IMPACT Sophomore Alvaro Garcia enters the Sam Houston State game having caught 20 passes for 289 yards and one touchdown in his first full season as a wide receiver. A record-setting quarterback in high school, Garcia moved to the receiver position midway through the 2008 season and caught two passes for 27 yards in Garcia caught a season-best four passes against Stephen F. Austin and had three catches at TCU and Southern Utah. He also caught the longest pass by a Bobcat this season with a 71-yard reception against Angelo State. BOLDEN ON THE EDGE Sophomore wide receiver Darius Bolden caught a game-winning touchdown at Central Arkansas when he caught a 24-yard pass from Bradley George with 27 seconds left in the victory. Bolden has caught 15 passes for 204 yards this season after catching just six passes for 74 yards in 12 games in Bolden caught a season best three passes in two games against Texas Southern and Southeastern Louisiana. He also had two receptions for 24 yards against Stephen F. Reddic scored a touchdown at Central Arkansas with a one-yard plunge up the middle after scoring a TD in each of Texas State s first four games this season. He ran for one-yard TD in the fourth quarter at Southern Utah after scoring two touchdowns against Texas Southern with a 19-yard run and a four-yard run in the fourth quarter as well. He also scored Texas States first touchdown at TCU with a one-yard run and began his collegiate career with a six-yard TD run against Angelo State. He also gained 42 yards on seven carries at Nicholls. FIVE RUSHING TOUCHDOWNS Texas State rushed for five touchdowns in two games this season. The Bobcats ran for five touchdowns against Southeastern Louisiana after running for five TD rushes against Texas Southern with Frank Reddic and Alvin Canady running for two TDs each. In addition, Trey Hampton scored his second one-yard touchdown of the season. Hampton scored his first touchdown as a Bobcat against Angelo State earlier this season. Karrington Bush led the Bobcats with a career-high three touchdown runs against Southeastern Louisiana. MCCLENDON IN THE END ZONE Junior tight end Woody McClendon scored the first touchdown of his career when he caught a 10-yard TD pass from Bradley George at Nicholls. McClendon has caught two passes for 15 yards this season. He also caught a five-yard pass against Southeastern Louisiana. Anderson entered the 2009 season with one reception for four yards at Montana after moving over from left guard in BUSH OUT FOR THE SEASON Karrington Bush injured his knee in the fourth quarter at Nicholls and will be out for the rest of the season. He ended the 2009 season with 385 yards and four touchdowns on 59 carries this season. Last season, he became the first Texas State player since 1997 and second Texas State player ever to rush for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. Bush ran for 1,065 yards and 11 touchdowns on 136 carries in He was named the SLC Freshman of the Year and an All-SLC Second-Team selection in 2007 after rushing for 1,039 yards and three touchdowns on 137 carries. His 7.8 yards per carry in 2008 ranks as the second-highest rushing average in school history and his 7.6 yards per carry in 2007 is the third highest average. His 1,065 yards last season is the seventhhighest single season total in school history and his 1,039 yards in 2007 is the ninth-highest total. GEORGE, BELL AND GARELICK NAMED SLC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Following the 28-7 upset win over No. 11th-ranked Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 31, Texas State senior quarterback and Bradley George and senior linebacker Joe Bell have been selected as the Southland Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. George was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week after tying his own school record of 30 completions and throwing for four touchdown passes. He completed 30 of his 41 passes against the Lumberjacks for 303 yards and a season-best four touchdowns. His 30 completions tied his own school record and marked the fourth time in his career and second time this season that he has accomplished the feat. Bell recorded 10 total tackles against Stephen F. Austin after he totaled 15 total tackles with five solo stops and 10 assisted tackles. He also forced a fumble on Texas State s 19-yard line and the Bobcats recovered the ball for the first of three turnovers that Texas State forced. The Bobcats also held Stephen F. Austin to just one of four scoring attempts inside the red zone. In addition, the senior from Cypress Falls High School in Houston had 1.5 tackles for losses of five yards against Stephen F. Austin. Earlier this season, Texas State freshman kicker Justin Garelick was named the SLC Special Teams Player of the Week honors on Oct. 25 after kicking a 21-yard field goal with 1:55 left to play to give Texas State a victory after tying the score at after connecting on a 29-yard field goal at Northwestern State and both of his two extrapoint attempts. His 29-yard field goal was the second-longest of his collegiate career. After his two field goals at Northwestern State, he has made five straight field goal attempts and is 6-7 this season. Each Southland Conference school s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors. The Bobcat defense has forced 32 turnovers in their last 15 games, dating back to the last six games of the 2008 campaign. Last season, Texas State collected 24 turnovers overall. Texas State also ranks third in turnover margin in Southland Conference only games this season with a margin of +3. The Bobcats have force nine turnovers in their first five games, while committing five against SLC opponents. TEXAS STATE SACK PARTY Texas State also is tied for eighth among Southland Conference teams after collecting their 12th sack against Central Arkansas. The Bobcats recorded three sacks against Northwestern State, and that is the most sacks against a Southland Conference opponent this season. Texas State has collected all 12 sacks in the last seven games after not having a quarterback sack in the first two contests. The Bobcats had one sack versus Stephen F. Austin, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern Utah after collecting the first four sacks of the season against Texas Southern. The sacks totaled 74 yards in losses. Last sea- son, Texas State recorded 23 sacks while giving up just 15. Ron Jackson recorded a sack in three of the last four games against Northwestern State, Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana. Jackson had a sack for a loss of a yard after recording a sack for a loss of five yards at Nicholls and one sack for a loss of six yards against Southeastern Louisiana. Joplo Bartu had a sack for a loss of eight yards against Stephen F. Austin. The most memorable sack at Northwestern State was by nose tackle Garrett Hood, who recorded the first sack of his career on the last drive of the game by the Demons. In addition, Adley Eshraghipour and Travis Houston combined for a sack that resulted in a four-yard loss against the Demons. Ralston Dews had one sack for a loss of one yard against Southern Utah. In the Texas Southern game, Marcus Clark had one sack for a loss of 16 yards, Matt Harris had a nine-yard sack, Patrick Strodtman registered a sack for a loss of seven yards and David Torres had a sack for -6 yards. TOUGH IN THE RED ZONE Texas State ranks second among Southland Conference teams in red zone defense after allowing teams to score 80.4 percent of the time. The Bobcats have given up 32 touchdowns and five field goals in 46 tries inside the Red Zone this season. Last season, Texas State ranked 17th nationally in Red Zone Defensive Efficiency after holding opponents to a scoring percentage of 71 percent. Bobcat opponents scored 34 touchdowns (17 rushing and 17 passing) and converted 8-of-22 field goal attempts after advancing the ball to the red zone. CLARK LEADS DEFENSE Junior linebacker Marcus Clark led Texas State with 14 tackles with three solo stops and 11 assists against McNeese State. Earlier this season, Clark recorded a career-high 16 tackles against Stephen F. Austin when he recorded two solo stops and assisted on 14 others. It marks the third time in the last five games that he has led the Bobcats in tackles. He has totaled 76 tackles overall this season. Clark ranks third among SLC leaders with an average of 9.0 tackles per game.
