NCAA Playoff History: St. Norbert is making its 13th NCAA Division III Playoffs appearance and its 12th in the last 20 years. St. Norbert is 2-12 all-time in the playoffs, beating Simpson (Iowa) in double overtime in 2003's first round and Trine 31-7 last Saturday. The Green Knights dispatched Trine 31-7 in a first-round NCAA Division III Playoff game this past Saturday in Angola, Ind. Senior quarterback Drew Rhodes leads the Green Knights in both passing and rushing. Rhodes has completed 130 of 221 passes for 1,465 yards and 11 touchdowns with eight interceptions. He has rushed 180 times for 772 yards and four touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Matt Galanopoulos has a team-high 33 receptions for 298 yards and three touchdowns, while junior Samuel Staehling has caught 25 passes for 388 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman running back Nate Ihlenfeldt, a transfer from the University of Washington, has 71 carries for 359 yards with two touchdowns. Senior linebacker Matt Barrett has registered a team-high 88 tackles with 11 1/2 tackles-for-loss and 4 1/2 quarterback sacks. Senior linebacker Mike Olijnyk has 67 tackles with 19 1/2 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and 4 1/2 quarterback sacks. Senior linebacker Matt Gurgone has 63 tackles, 17 1/2 tackles-for-loss, six quarterback sacks, five forced fumbles, five interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Senior linebacker Ben Kornowski has 50 tackles with 12 tackles-forloss, 3 1/2 quarterback sacks and three interceptions. The Warhawks cruised to a win over Eureka in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs this past Saturday in Whitewater. Sophomore running back Alex Peete has 1,022 yards rushing on 192 carries with 19 touchdowns, while junior running back Ronny Ponick has 572 rushing yards on 86 carries with eight touchdowns. Senior quarterback Cole Wilber has completed 135 of 235 passes for 2,234 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wisniewski has 35 catches for 686 yards and eight touchdowns. Junior linebacker Jacob Erbs has a team-high 52 tackles, while senior linebacker Bryce Leszczynski has51 tackles. Junior defensive back Garrett Purdy has 39 stops, while senior defensive lineman Harry Henschler has 38 tackles with 15 tackles-for-loss and 7 1/2 quarterback sacks. The Green Knights are currently yielding just 63.9 rushing yards per game, good for eighth nationally. Whitewater is 30th nationally in rushing offense at yards per game. St. Norbert held Trine to 292 yards under its season average in total offense in last Saturday s 31-7 win. The Thunder, who were averaging 461 yards, gained 173. St. Norbert has allowed just four rushing touchdowns this season, with three coming in a double-overtime loss at UW-Eau Claire. The Green Knights have allowed just one rushing touchdown in the nine games since. Double Trouble: Senior linebacker Matt Gurgone scored two defensive touchdowns against Trine to give him five defensive scores this season. His three interception returns for a touchdown has tied an NCAA Division III season record. Gurgone, who is tied for third in scoring for the Green Knights despite being a defensive player, returned an interception and a fumble for a touchdowns in the same game for the second time against Trine. He had a 26-yard interception return and a 35-yard fumble return 19 seconds apart in the third quarter. Gurgone also returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown and a fumble 2 yards for a score in a 91-0 win over Grinnell on Sept. 23. Gurgone is only the second player in St. Norbert history to return both a fumble and interception for a touchdown in the same game. and the only one to do it twice. He joined Anthony Triner, who accomplished the feat in a win over Carroll University on Oct. 15, Gurgone s first defensive score of the season came on a 20-yard pick six against Aurora on Sept. 1. Takeaway Talk: St. Norbert registered its second

4 consecutive game with six takeaways in its 31-7 win over Trine this past Saturday. The Green Knights, who totaled six interceptions in a 10-7 win over Monmouth to win the Midwest Conference title on Nov. 10, gained three fumbles and three interceptions against the Thunder. St. Norbert is third in Division III in turnovers gained with 35 and is 10th in turnover margin at plus 1.27 per game. St. Norbert s eight defensive touchdowns this season - a school record - are second nationally behind Mount Union s 12. Defensive Dossier: St. Norbert is in the top eight in 10 different defensive categories in this week s NCAA Division III statistical rankings. The Green Knights are second nationally in team passing efficiency defense (79.82 rating), total defense (200.5 yards per game) and defensive touchdowns (eight). St. Norbert is third in interceptions (22), tacklesfor-loss (10.1 per game) and turnovers gained (35). St. Norbert is fourth in third-down conversion defense (23.4 percent) and passing yards allowed (136.6 per game). The Green Knights are seventh in scoring defense (9.4 points per game) and eighth in rushing defense (63.9 yards per game). The Green Knights have four shutouts in 2018, the first time they have done so since St. Norbert, which also had four shutouts in 1938 and 1952, had a school-record five shutouts in Winning Ways: St. Norbert has assured itself of a 20th consecutive winning season.
