Hawkins, a 6-3 guard, scored 21 points in Thursday s victory against UC Riverside. He had two of those points with three seconds remaining, that turned a one-point lead to three and helped the Aggies stave off the Highlanders. He added six rebounds and three steals in the win. He notched 30 points, his second 30-point effort of the year, to help lead UC Davis to an victory over UC a 14-0 undefeated season at home on Hamilton Court. 3 Cal Poly has lost four straight entering Thursday s Big West Tournament matchup against rival UC Santa Barbara. A similar late season slump didn t deter the Mustangs last Tournament history to win the championship. Tournament Talk: Cal Poly has won at least one game in each of the last three conference tournaments. The Mustangs are 3-2 against UCSB in head-to-head tournament margin of victory tied for sixth-highest in the record book. Better Guard Him: Sophomore guard Ridge Shipley had hit at least three treys seven times during an eight-game stretch before going 0-for-3 from beyond the arc against UCSB. 4 Tourney Time: Long Beach State is a true No. 4 seed in the Big West Tournament which could bode well for the history buffs. The 49ers won the tournament in The 1999 squad was the fourth seed from the Western Division back when the conference utilized a two-division setup. Tournament Tidbit: The 49ers have won at least one game History Beckons: Senior Mike Caffey needs just seven more rebounds over the remainder of the season to join Ed Ratleff as the only two players in 49er history with career numbers of 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists. Caffey is the program s No. 6 all-time scorer with 1,622 points and is No. 3 with 455 assists. Senior David Samuels posted season and he ranks third in the Big West with seven overall. LBSU is allowing its opponents to average just 54.3 points during its current three-game winning streak. 5 Rematch Time: In a rematch Riverside takes another shot at UC Irvine on Thursday at Honda Center. The Highlanders fell last year. UCR is 0-2 all-time against UCI in the Big West Tournament. UCR seeks to snap a threegame tournament losing streak. The Highlanders are 3-8 all-time in the tournament. All three wins came against Cal Poly (2004, 2008, 2011), last year s tournament champion. Junior forward Taylor Johns is three rebounds away from becoming the sixth player in school history and the second in the Division I era to reach 600 for a career. He recently joined the school s 1,000 career points club. Close Game Convo: The Highlanders appeared in a ton of faring better with a 6-7 record in tight outcomes. Bobbitt Still No. 1: Junior Roderick Bobbitt remains the NCAA leader with 95 steals this season. His streak of at least one steal in 28 straight games was halted against CSF, but he still has a realistic shot of becoming just the fourth player in Big West annals to amass 100 steals in a season. UH enters the Big West Tournament having shot better than 50 percent from the percent (85-for-160) during that stretch. Sophomore Stefan Jankovic has provided the Rainbow Warriors an additional offensive presence since the transfer became eligible to play on Dec. 22 versus in 13 of the last 15 games. 7 UC Santa Barbara senior Alan Williams joined an exclusive Big West club as eclipsed 1,000 rebounds on Jan. 15 versus CSUN. With 1,091 boards, Williams ranks third in conference history and trails only Cal State Fullerton s Tony Neal (1,115, ) and Long Beach State s T.J. Robinson (1,208, ). Earlier this season, Williams unseated Eric McArthur (904, ) for the distinction of all-time school rebounding king when he gobbled up 12 caroms against Seattle University on Dec. 4. The 6-3 guard leads the Big West and ranks No. 8 nationally in scoring with 20.6 points per game. He is also the nation s Coming off of a 9-22 season, UC Davis has set the program s Division I record for most victories (24). In doing so, the Aggies also became just the third team in Big West history to win single-digit games one year and 20 the next.
