Rice is coming off a thrilling road victory at North Texas on Friday while UTSA has dropped six straight overall, including their C-USA opener at Louisiana Tech (63-55). The Roadrunners lead the all-time series against the Owls, 9-7, although Rice has won three straight against UTSA, including a win in the opening round of the C-USA Championship last season. Last Time Out Rice extended their winning streak to six straight games by defeating the North Texas Mean Green in the final seconds of the C-USA opener Friday evening in Denton. The Owls were led offensively by senior guard Wendy Knight (13 points) and junior guard Nicole Iademarco (13 points) while redshirt sophomore guard Erica Ogwumike fell just short of a double-double with nine points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Rice went 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the final 1:06, including a 4-for-4 performance from Ogwumike. Best Start Since... Rice s 11-2 start to the season is their best record through 13 games since the (Division II) campaign when the Owls started The Owls 10 non-conference victories were also the most since moving to Division I. A win on Sunday would also give the Owls a seven game winning streak, the team s longest since the team that won nine straight. Owning the Arc The Owls lead all of C-USA in three-point field goals made per game (8.5-33rd in NCAA) and are second in the league in total three-pointers made (110-55th in NCAA). Iademarco is eighth in C-USA in three-point makes per game (2.5) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (35.9) and has made at least one three-pointer in each of the Owls first 13 games. On the flip side, the Owls have the best three-point field goal defense in C-USA (25.8 percent) and rank 13th in the nation. Keep Em Below 70 With their win over Columbia, the Owls improved to 10-0 this season when they allow their opponents to score 70 points or less. Marie Benson (13.3 ppg) and Crystal Chidomere (13.1 ppg) lead the way offensively but as a team UTSA is averaging just 59 points per game. Benson also leads the team in rebounding (9.6), ranking third in C-USA. Home Sweet Home Dating back to last year, the Owls have won nine consecutive games at Tudor Fieldhouse, including a 5-0 record this season. Ogwumike Leading the Charge Redshirt sophomore guard Erica Ogwumike has had a sensational season for the Owls and ranks near the top in several C-USA categories including top three in total points (3rd-235), defensive rebounds per game (2nd-7.0), free throws made (2nd- 59) and points per game (3rd-18.1). In addition, she ranks fourth in C-USA in rebounds per game (9.4) and steals per game (2.38). Staying Out of Harm s Ways Due to injuries, the Owls have been forced into a short rotation and have been among the nation s best in staying out of foul trouble. Rice currently ranks ninth in the nation with just 180 total fouls. In addition, they rank 13th in the nation with just 13.8 fouls per game. Owls Picked to Finish 5th Rice was picked to place fifth in the Preseason C-USA Women s Basketball Poll. Looks Who s Back The Owls return eight letterwinners from last year s squad and two starters in senior guard Wendy Knight and junior guard Nicole Iademarco. In addition, Rice welcomes back Lauren Grigsby (junior), Gabrielle Stanton (junior), Tayler Bennett (sophomore), and Gabby Ozoude (freshman). Erica and Olivia Ogwumike will be eligible for their first season at Rice after sitting out last year following their transfer from Pepperdine. This year the Owls will be without transfer Nancy Mulkey, along with Shani Rainey (injury), Kendall Ellig (injury) and Temi Alao (injury). A Year to Remember Last season was a banner year for the Owls in numerous ways. Rice s 11-game improvement was tied for the sixth-best in the nation, going from a 9-22 record in to a mark last year. The Owls put an exclamation mark on the year by winning the Women s Basketball Invitational title, the team s first-ever postseason title outside a conference tournament. Their 22 wins were the second-most in Rice history and the Owls made a single-season school record 242 three-pointers. Langley Announces Signing of Two Future Owls Rice women s basketball head coach Tina Langley announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday (11/16/17). Arianna McCurry (Roseville, CA/Roseville High School) and Jasmine Smith (Houston, Texas/Dekaney High School) are set to enroll and join the Owls in McCurry is a two-time all-conference honoree who enters her senior season with career averages of 8.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks for the Roseville Tigers. Rated a Premier Basketball Report four-star center, McCurry helped lead the Tigers to a conference championship last season and a 22-9 record overall. Smith helped lead the Kinkaid Falcons to a Southwest Preparatory Conference title her junior season, earning All-SPC and All-South Zone honors in the process. She also earned the All-SPC and All-South Zone honors as a sophomore and freshman. Smith is rated by Premier Basketball Report as a four-star recruit, a top 100 player in the ESPNW rankings and a top 30 point guard in her class by Girls Basketball Report. She will enter her senior season with career averages of 16.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 6.0 assists. 2

3 Tina Langley Head Coach (Third Season at Rice) In only her second season ( ) at Rice, Tina Langley helped guide the Owls to a WBI Championship (the school s first postseason title) and 22 victories, the second-most in a single season on South Main. The Owls improved by 13 wins from her first to second season, one of the top increments in the nation. Rice led all of Conference USA in total assists (558) and total rebounds (1,308) while setting a Rice single-season record in made three-pointers (242). In addition the Owls ranked second in C-USA in assists per game (15.9), field goal percentage (.444), made three-pointers (242) and free throw attempts (626). The Owls set a school record with 13 home victories in the season and the team s 9-2 start was the best by a Rice squad since the season. Langley, who helped develop Maryland into a Final Four program, was named the fifth head coach in Rice University women s basketball history on April 15, In her first season at Rice ( ) the Alabama native guided the Owls to the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament for the first time since In 19 years on the sidelines, Langley has coached 35 All-Conference players, led her teams to 12 postseason appearances (11 conference championships in Big Ten, ACC and MAC), and has developed 14 professional players, including six WNBA draft picks. She s helped to bring in nine ranked recruiting classes among her stops and three have been ranked as top-10 classes. Langley spent seven seasons serving as Maryland s associate head coach, compiling a record during that time. The Terrapins were coming off a campaign in which Langley helped guide the team to their second consecutive Final Four appearance and a 34-3 record, climbing as high No. 3 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Maryland went 18-0 in league play in their first year in the Big Ten to win the regular season title and followed with a conference tournament title. The Terrapins set a school record by winning 28-straight games and the 34 overall victories tied for the most in school history. As head coach Brenda Frese s top assistant, Langley s responsibilities included coordinating the Terps recruiting efforts, assisting in player development, scouting, and on-court coaching. Prior to arriving in College Park in 2008, Langley served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at both Georgia (2005) and Clemson ( ). While at Clemson, Langley worked under legendary head coach Jim Davis. In her two years with the Tigers, the team advanced to the 2004 Women s Basketball Invitational (WNIT) while also orchestrating a Clemson-record six-signee class, which was ranked in the top 30 nationally in her first season. Langley spent five seasons at the University of Toledo ( ). She began her coaching career with the Rockets as a graduate assistant coach in , before moving up to recruiting coordinator and then associate head coach during the campaign. She helped the Rockets reach the postseason three times, including two NCAA Tournament appearances. Langley played basketball and volleyball collegiately for two seasons at Belvill State Junior College before transferring to the University of West Alabama, where she lettered twice in basketball. She graduated from UWA with a degree in special education in 1996, and earned her first master s degree in Recreation and Leisure with an emphasis in recreation administration from the University of Toledo.
