The Statesmen won the inaugural meeting in 1914, 10-3, and boast the longest winning streak in the series (11 in a row between 1969 and 1988). CARDIAC KIDS: Since 1995, the Statesmen and Nittany Lions have met 11 times with six of those contests ending in one-goal decisions, including four overtime affairs. The two teams previous meeting on Boswell Field (in 2004) was no exception. PSU tied the game 7-7 with only one second remaining in regulation. Hobart eked out the OT win when goalie DAN VALENTE s 20-yard pass to a wide-open CHRIS SCANLON led to the game-winner 1:32 into the extra session. All-time, 18 of the 55 Hobart-Penn State showdowns have been decided by just a single tally. SUDDEN DEATH: Speaking of overtime, Hobart s four OT contests with Penn State are tied for the most for the Statesmen against any opponent (Hobart and Syracuse also have played four OT games). Both the Statesmen and Nittany Lions sport two wins in sudden death. Overall, Hobart is 9-21 in games decided in overtime. WHEN LAST WE MET: On April 9, 2005, in Happy Valley, Penn State got off to an explosive start, netting 10 first quarter goals en route to a ECAC Lacrosse League win. The game was even over the final 45 minutes, 9-9, but the slow start doomed the Statesmen. Daryl Veltman scored a game-high eight points (4-4), while John Ermus led the Nittany Lions with four goals. AGAINST THE NITTANY LIONS: Sophomore DARYL VELTMAN is the active Statesman with the most career points against Penn State. He recorded four goals and four assists last season. Senior MIKE CONKLIN has three goals in three games, while senior PATRICK MEADE and junior CHRIS DAVID have both scored twice on the Nittany Lions. Senior defenseman MATT MURPHY recorded one of his four career assists against PSU. COMMON GROUND: Hobart and Penn State have two common opponent so far this season, Ohio State and ECAC rival Fairfield. The Nittany Lions need OT to sneak past the Buckeyes 14-13, while handling Fairfield The Statesmen dispatched OSU 13-8, but lost last Saturday at Fairfield PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore midfielder NICK CURRIE earned a share of the ECAC Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Week award for the week ending April 2. At Syracuse, he scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to help Hobart knock off then 13th-ranked Syracuse 9-8. Four days later at Fairfield, Currie recorded three goals and an assist, while collecting a team-high five ground balls. Through eight games, Currie is tied for the team lead in goals (11), second in man-up goals (2), and third in points (14). HOMECOMING: Today marks Hobart s first home game since March 11, and just the second Statesmen game in Geneva this season. Hobart s five straight road games were decided by a combined total of 12 goals. Rutgers and Syracuse were both one-goal nailbiters, while the Binghamton and Georgetown games were two-goal affairs. The Statesmen will play four of their final six games at home.

DEFLATING THE DOME: Hobart s victory over Syracuse marked the first time the Statesmen have defeated the Orange in the Carrier Dome and the first time Hobart has knocked off Syracuse at home since TWO TO GO: One of the most storied lacrosse program s in the nation, Hobart needs just two more wins to become the third collegiate team to reach 700 wins. Now in its 104th varsity season, the Statesmen have compiled a record of (.633). Only Johns Hopkins and Syracuse have more all-time wins. TOUGH ROW TO HOE: Hobart s 14-game schedule features five teams ranked in the STX/USILA Coaches top 20: No. 3 Georgetown, No. 5 Cornell, No. 10 Massachusetts, No. 15 Syracuse, and No. 18 Penn State. The Statesmen also face three more team receiving votes: Fairfield, Rutgers, and Binghamton. BALL HOG NAROG: Senior long-stick midfielder ANDREW NAROG has helped Hobart to a advantage in ground balls this season. He boasts a team-high 48 through eight games. He began the week ranked second in the ECAC in ground balls per game (6.0). Narog scooped up a career-high nine ground balls at Rutgers. LIGHTNING STRIKE THRICE?: Red-shirt first-year DAVID O QUINN leads Hobart in the scoring column with 16 points (7-9). Should he remain atop the leaderboard, he would be just the third first-year since 1971 to lead the Statesmen, joining four-time All-American RICK GILBERT 74 and 2005 ECAC Rookie of the Year DARYL VELTMAN. I WANT TO BE LIKE MIKE: Senior attackman MIKE CONKLIN began the season 19th in the nation in career points among active players. Over the past threeplus seasons, he has scored 69 goals and assisted on 15 others. Conklin s 69 goals are fifth among Division I Statesmen, while his 84 points are seventh and his 15 assists are tied for 20th. YOUTH MOVEMENT: Of the 12 Hobart players with two or more points this season, eight are underclassmen. In addition to red-shirt first-year DAVID O QUINN, sophomores DARYL VELTMAN (10-5), SEAN MURPHY (8-5), and NICK CURRIE (11-3) and first-years JEFF RYAN (6-5), JEFF COLBURN (3-3), BRANDON BUCHMAYR (3-0), and MATT SMALLEY (1-1) give the Statesmen a potent scoring punch. STREAKY: Speaking of DARYL VELTMAN, the native of Georgetown, Ontario, has scored at least one point in every game he has played for the Statesmen (21 gms). His 65 career points are 13th among Division I Statesmen (one behind MATT CROWTHER 96), while his 3.10 points per game average is second only to JOSH KENNEY 96 (3.35). On April 1, 2006, Fairfield became the first team to prevent Veltman from scoring a goal. He finished the day with one assist. STREAKY, II: Only one Hobart player has scored at least one point in every game this season, red-shirt first-year DAVID O QUINN. (Veltman was held out of the Hartford game with an injury.) IT S TRICKY: Six Statesmen have scored three or more goals in a game this season, including sophomore CHRIS DAVID s season-high four at Georgetown. Classmate SEAN MURPHY logged the first hat trick of the year against Bucknell, while seniors PATRICK MEADE and MIKE CONKLIN both tripled against Hartford. Sophomore
