ROAD WORK 4TCU s record (.750) in road and neutral-site games since 2009 is the nation s second-best mark. 4At (.783), TCU has the nation s third-best road record since TCU is tied for sixth nationally with eight road wins over AP Top-25 teams since TCU is 16-9 on the road in its Big 12 history. 4Six of TCU s last 14 Big 12 road games have been decided by seven points or less. The Horned Frogs are 5-1 in those games. Since beginning Big 12 play in 2012, TCU is 8-4 in conference road games decided by seven points or less. SERIES NOTES 4 TCU and Iowa State will be meeting for just the ninth time in their history. 4The Horned Frogs hold a 7-1 series lead. 4Since beginning Big 12 play in 2012, TCU is 4-1 versus Iowa State with wins in the last four games. 4TCU is 3-0 versus Iowa State in Ames, 3-1 in Fort Worth and 1-0 at neutral sites (2005 Houston Bowl). 4Iowa State took a victory in 2012 in the Horned Frogs first-ever Big 12 home game. It also snapped a 12-game TCU winning streak that was the longest in the nation at the time. 4Prior to TCU beginning Big 12 play in 2012, the teams had not met since a Horned Frogs victory in the 2005 Houston Bowl. 4The series began with a TCU win in Fort Worth in REMEMBER WHEN? 4TCU head coach Gary Patterson s first game on the Horned Frogs sideline was a victory at Iowa State in Patterson was TCU s defensive coordinator at the time. LAST TIME IN AMES 4No. 3 TCU set a school record for consecutive wins with its 15th straight victory in a decision over Iowa State Oct. 17, It also kept alive the nation s second-longest active winning streak at the time (Ohio State, 20). 4TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, who completed 27-of-32 passes for 436 yards and four touchdowns, was a team captain that night. Before the pregame coin toss, he knelt down to ask Iowa State kid s captain Abby Faber, who was in a wheelchair, what her name was. The photo of the exchange went viral. Faber was then in attendance at TCU s next home game and recognized in front of a sold-out crowd. TCU NOTABLES 4TCU has a 30-2 record in the three seasons it came off a non-winning record in the 17-year tenure of head coach Gary Patterson. The Horned Frogs were 11-1 and Mountain West champions in 2005 after a 5-6 campaign in TCU went 12-1 with Big 12 and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl championships in 2014 following a 4-8 season in TCU is 7-0 this season after last year s 6-7 campaign. 4TCU s overall record over the last four seasons is tied for the best mark in the Big 12. Its 23-8 record in conference play is second. 4With wins over Arkansas, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Kansas State, TCU is 4-0 this year against teams it lost to last year. 4TCU has 21 scholarship seniors after having just eight last season. 4Quarterback Kenny Hill s 70.2 completion percentage (146-of-208) ranks fourth in the nation and is on pace to shatter the TCU season record. TURP IN Because he missed a combined five games last season due to injury, Turpin did not qualify for listing among NCAA statistical leaders. 4If he had the number of games played to qualify, Turpin would have led the Big 12 in punt returns and ranked eighth nationally with a 12.5-yard average. He would have been second in the conference and eighth in the country with his 28.4 mark on kickoff returns. 4Prior to his injury, Turpin was leading the NCAA in punt returns (28.8 yards) and was one of two players nationally to rank in the top 10 in punt returns and kickoff returns. CARTER STADIUM / FORT WORTH, TEXAS JACKSON ST. 0 TCU 63 FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Coach Gary Patterson wasn t going to get overexcited about TCU s 63-0 victory against an FCS team. Even with that win against Jackson State being the 150th victory of his career, Patterson was keeping everything in perspective after the lopsided victory. This next one is a test (against Arkansas), Patterson said. I d be excited if I could get to 160 by the end of this season. Quarterback Kenny Hill threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns, two to Desmon White, and helped TCU take a comfortable lead early on. TCU scored on all three possessions in the first quarter, including a 13-yard touchdown where Kenedy Snell took a shovel pass and broke five tackles on a weaving sideline-to-sideline run. TCU posted its first shutout since 2014 and scored twice on defense as Ridwan Issahaku returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Arico Evans returned a fumble 32 yards in the third. Hill completed 18 of 23 passes before being replaced by backup quarterback Shawn Robinson midway through the third quarter. The Tigers were limited to 24 yards rushing and 41 passing. Jackson State reached the TCU 7-yard line on the game s opening drive, but a fumbled snap led to a 28-yard loss and was followed up by a failed fake punt. NO. 23 TCU 28 ARKANSAS 7 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) Led by a defense that stifled its opponent for a second straight week, No. 23 TCU made amends for its loss a year ago by earning a 28-7 win over the Razorbacks. The Horned Frogs held Arkansas to 267 yards of total offense, a week after allowing only 65 yards in a 63-0 victory over Jackson State. They also controlled the time of possession with 195 yards rushing as a team, led by a career-high 106 on the ground from sophomore Darius Anderson. Anderson s career day topped his previous rushing best of 103 yards in a victory over Texas last season, helping TCU win in Fayetteville for the first time since 1984 when both schools were in the Southwest Conference. It was the collective effort of the Horned Frogs defense, however, that stole the show - while TCU quarterback Kenny Hill was content to manage the rushing game and lead an offense that converted 10 of 14 third downs. Even in a secondary role, the senior still finished 21-of-31 passing and topped 200 yards of total offense in his third career game against Arkansas. The Horned Frogs had three sacks in the game, one each by Ridwan Issahaku, Ben Banogu and Corey Bethley. It was its coverage that decimated Arkansas once-mighty passing attack, though. Only three Razorbacks wide receivers caught passes in the game and quarterback Austin Allen - who accounted for four touchdowns in last year s win - finished 9 of 23 for 138 yards passing. SMU led 19-7 before Kenny Hill threw three TD passes in the final 7 1/2 minutes of the second quarter. The last was Reagor s catch in a crowd of Mustangs who seemed more like observers than defenders. Darius Anderson ran for two touchdowns for TCU in the second half, including the first drive after halftime. Speedy running back Kenedy Snell also scored twice, while Hill completed 24 of 30 passes for 365 yards and four touchdowns. Snell had a 10-yard TD run and later turned a short pass into a 71-yard sprint to the end zone. That long score put TCU up with 2:40 left in the first half. Snell and Reagor are both true freshmen from Waxahachie, Texas, less than an hour from the TCU campus. Josh Williams kicked his third field goal for SMU after Snell s big play, but TCU still had time. Taking over at its 44 with 10 seconds left after the kickoff, Snell had an 18-yard run before a timeout to set up the final play. TCU intercepted SMU quarterback Ben Hicks twice, including one returned 19 yards for a touchdown by linebacker Travin Howard.
