7 Justin Potts enters his seventh season as the top assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University. Potts has served alongside Jeff Wilson since Wilson was named head coach prior to the season. He has been ESU s recruiting coordinator since arriving on campus and has been instrumental in helping the Warriors return to the top of the PSAC East standings. ESU has made three straight playoff appearances for the first time in more than a decade. In addition to his duties as recruiting coordinator, Potts assists with player development and scouting. He has coached All-PSAC East selections Rich Baker, Anthony Ross, Danny Hargrove, Darron Bradley, Chris Bach and Channon Easley and also serves as the co-director of Warrior Basketball camps. Prior to joining Wilson on the sidelines at ESU, Potts served as an assistant coach at Moravian College, his alma mater, where his responsibilities included recruiting and summer camps. Potts graduated from Moravian in 2000 with a bachelor s degree in English, and earned his master s degree in Exercise Science from ESU in the summer of Potts resides in Northampton, Pa. with his wife, Caroline. Coach Wilson on Justin Potts Coach Potts has been a major contributor to the turnaround of the ESU basketball program. Having him on the staff for seven years as my assistant has added stability to all aspects of the program. His efforts in recruiting, along with his his basketball knowledge and teaching ability, have helped develop the players in our program, including six all-league players. Augustine Woodlin Graduate Assistant ASSISTANT COACHES Justin Potts Assistant Coach, Seventh Season Shawn Munford Faculty/Social Equity Coach, Sixth Season Shawn Munford, a full-time faculty member in Movement Activities and Lifetime Fitness at East Stroudsburg University, begins his sixth season as a member of head coach Jeff Wilson s staff. Munford is a volunteer coach who brings a wealth of experience to the Warriors. He was a star performer during his career at Bloomsburg University before graduating in 2001, and also played professionally. While at Bloomsburg, he scored 1,54 points, 10th on the all-time scoring list for the Huskies, and is second in assists and third in steals on the school s career list. He gained All-PSAC East first-team honors as a senior with 15.4 points per game and a 42.2 three-point percentage. Following his career at Bloomsburg, he played a year of professional basketball overseas in Belgium before spending a season as an assistant coach for Bloomsburg. Munford came to East Stroudsburg as the graduate assistant and earned his Master s degree in Exercise Science. He is a native of Philadelphia, where he attended J.R. Masterman High School. Coach Wilson on Shawn Munford Coach Munford s status as an assistant coach and a member of the faculty at East Stroudsburg University is a great example for our student athletes of what can be accomplished when athletics and academics are combined at a high level. Justin Scott Volunteer Assistant Augustine Woodlin joins the Warriors men s basketball program as a graduate assistant coach for the season. Woodlin was a two-year starter at Division I Coppin State in Baltimore where he played for legendary head coach Ron Fang Mitchell. 9 After three straight appearances in the PSAC tournament for the first time since he was an assistant coach for the Warriors nearly 20 years ago, head coach Jeff Wilson has East Stroudsburg University ready for another run at a PSAC East championship - one of the only things that has eluded his team since he took over the program at his alma mater seven years ago. The Warriors lose two starters but bring back nine letterwinners from last year s team that posted an record for the second straight season, and pushed regular season champion Cheyney to the buzzer in a loss in the PSAC quarterfinals. ESU s returners are led by senior Chris Bach, a 6-8, 25-pound forward who was named to the All-PSAC East second team a year ago and should be the premier frontcourt player in the division. Bach brings great experience, leadership and maturity to the post position and is a tough match-up for anybody in the PSAC with the ability to play on the block and step out on the perimeter. He was ESU s third-leading scorer (11.5 ppg) and second-leading rebounder (7.4 rpg) and shot blocker (1.6 bpg) last season, but stepped up to lead the Warriors in all three categories in PSAC East action points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. His maturity includes a decadelong odyssey for the 0-year old Bach to complete his college career. A Sport Management major with a.8 GPA, Bach was a PSAC Winter Top 10 selection and was the only PSAC men s basketball player named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II team. Bach will be joined by two returning starters in the backcourt - senior Pat Fleury, who led the PSAC with 5.1 assists per game last season, and junior Andy Heimbach, one of the top shooters in the conference who knocked down 65 threepointers, fourth-most in school history. Fleury posted the eighth-best total in school history with 142 assists and has the keys to an offense that averaged 7.1 points per game a year ago. He was very consistent in the assist category, with at least four assists in 22 of ESU s 28 games, and has shown the ability in the preseason to improve on his scoring average of 6.2 points per game. Fleury is also a strong on-the-ball defender and led the Warriors with 47 steals in Heimbach s sophomore season began with a flourish, with seven three s on his way to 25 points against Holy Family, and included a perfect 7-for-7 performance vs. Queens. He hit double figures in 15 of the first 18 games and averaged 11.7 points per game for the season. He has added physicality to his exceptional feel for the game and will score off the dribble along with spotting up behind the arc. A pair of seniors with a year of valuable experience are projected to fill the other two starting spots. Forward Aaron Pinckney was the first post player off the bench last season and moves into a more prominent role this year. He has a high basketball IQ, finishing third on the team with 40 assists, and is one of ESU s best defensive players who will complement Bach s shot blocking ability. Dawud Lyons, an athletic, explosive wing, excels in the Warriors transition game and completes the starting backcourt. He scored 8.5 points per game and has improved his outside shooting while providing solid defensive ability on the perimeter. SEASON OUTLOOK Wilson has plenty of depth to turn to on the bench, including four returning letterwinners - junior point guard Robby Pines, sophomore guard Mike DeMarco, sophomore forward Mike Tobin and junior forward Preston Ritter. Pines is a change-of-pace point guard behind Fleury who has a great feel for the game and what his team needs from him. He played valuable minutes last season and had 24 assists and 18 steals. DeMarco saw just over 10 minutes per game a year ago and is playing with a great deal of confidence after committing himself to the strength and conditioning program in the offseason. He will be a major contributor on the wing and may also see some time at point guard. Tobin played a more limited role as a freshman but has come back stronger and quicker and is one of the top conditioned athletes in the program. A natural small forward, he may also be used at the four spot to utilize his quickness. A walk-on last year, Ritter is an exceptional athlete and has improved his understanding of the game. He has a chance to play a greater role this season. Five players join the program this year and will look to get on the floor. Junior Darnell Moore, an outstanding perimeter shooter, should see immediate playing time on the wing. Senior point guard Antwain Wynn is at his best in an up-tempo game and freshman Darren El, a natural scorer, has a chance to play as he learns the system. Freshmen Eric Bryan and Dan Robinson add depth at forward. Robinson has adapted quickly to the college game and should be in line for major minutes at power forward and center, and Bryan brings immediate help as a rebounder and defender.
