This year s Tournament berth marks a special milestone: UCF s 20th postseason appearance in program history. A program with a tradition of success since its appearance in the first NCAA Tournament championship match in 1982, the Knights are one of 14 teams in the country -- including William & Mary -- to claim 20 NCAA Tournament appearances. UCF is the only team in the state of Florida that has reached the 20-mark and join the likes of Virginia, Notre Dame, UNC, Stanford and Cal, among others. This year marks the ninth time and fifth-consecutive season that UCF has hosted at least one NCAA Tournament round. UCF has moved on to the second round in seven of its last eight NCAA Championship tournament appearances. Today s Matchup UCF and William & Mary are meeting for the first time since The two programs have met once before in the NCAA Tournament -- the 1984 first round match in Orlando. UCF won 3-1. The Sahaydaks, who spent six years as the head coaches at VCU, are very familiar with former Colonial Athletic Association foe William & Mary and long-time head coach John Daly. Roberts Sahaydak also played against Daly s Tribe when she was a standout for North Carolina from UCF freshman Maura Aman s older sister, Jane, was a goalkeeper for William & Mary from Storied Tradition Since 1981, UCF has accumulated 21 conference championships and 20 NCAA Tournament berths, which include appearances in the 1982 NCAA title game, 1987 Final Four, 2011 Elite Eight and 2014 Sweet 16. Sixteen Knights have earned 20 NSCAA All-American selections, including former USWNT goalkeepers Amy (Allmann) Griffin and Kim Wyant (current NYU men s soccer head coach) and National Soccer Hall of Famer Michelle Akers. Former All-American forward Tishia Jewell ( ) is the only Knight in UCF Athletics history to win the Senior CLASS Award. Follow UCF ucf.wsoccer UCF, Not Central Florida Please refer to the University of Central Florida as UCF, not Central Florida, on all references. Also, UCF is no longer Golden and instead simply known as the Knights. All-Conference All Stars Junior forward Carol Rodrigues highlighted the Knights American Athletic Conference regular season honors as the league s choice for Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Joining Rodrigues on the all-conference first team are senior midfielder Ashley Spivey and redshirt sophomore forward/midfielder Kayla Adamek. Goalkeeper Vera Varis was named to the all-rookie team. Rodrigues is the second Knight in as many years to share the distinction of Offensive Player of the Year with UConn s Rachel Hill. All-American Tatiana Coleman was also honored in Spivey and Varis were also named to the American s all-tournament team. New Year, New Squad UCF has 14 newcomers on its roster this season, including transfers from Mississippi State, Louisville, Miami and Maryland. UCF lost three conference players of the year due to graduation: Tatiana Coleman (Offensive); Carleigh Williams (Defensive); and Connie Organ (Goalkeeper). Coleman and Williams both traveled overseas to play in the top professional leagues in France and Norway, respectively. In what could have been branded a rebuilding year, the Knights are still among the top 25 in RPI. Run of Show

2 Although UCF struggled through a three-game skid (its longest losing streak in nine years) in late-september/early October, the Knights used the adversity as a turning point and climbed to the top of the standings in several conference-only categories. UCF reigned as the league leader in points, goals and assists, and a trio of Knights swept the top three leader spots for points during conference play. Junior transfer Carol Rodrigues ranks first for points, goals and game-winning goals. Sophomore midfielder/forward Kayla Adamek stands first for assists and second for points. Senior Ashley Spivey ranks second for goals and third for points. Two Can Play That Game Ashley Spivey and Carol Rodrigues have been UCF s go-to s for game-winners, and as a result, both appear on UCF s all-time single season leaders list. With 6 game-winners, Spivey is tied for second while Rodrigues is right behind her with 5 game-winners and tied for sixth. The pair have a chance to go after the record of seven, which was set by Kelly Kochever in They are the only two Knights from the same season to appear on the record list together. There are currently just five schools in the nation that boast two players with a minimum of five game-winners this season: UCF, Fordham, UConn, San Diego State and North Texas. Spivey also appears on UCF s career game-winners leaders list. Although she has only played two seasons in a Black and Gold uniform, she has 10 game-winners to her name, tying for fifth. Players of the Week UCF garnered a league-best 12 Player of the Week honors this year. Ashley Spivey (Offensive); Carol Rodrigues (Offensive, 3x); Vera Varis (Rookie, 3x); Jessica Taylor (Rookie); Saga Fredriksson (Defensive, 2x); Kayla Adamek (Offensive) and Bridget Callahan (Defensive) have all been recognized. The Knights were the only team to have three different players earn distinction for the offensive honor this year. Vera Varis was the only freshman to repeat for the rookie award this year. Drop the Bike Forward Carol Rodrigues captured the nation s attention with her bicycle kick that served as the game-winning goal against Tulsa on Oct. 11. Rodrigues was the No. 2 pick on Oct. 11 s SportsCenter Top 10 and No. 3 on Fox #BESTISOURSTANDARD Sports The One. She also made No. 6 on SportsCenter Plays of the Weekend (aired Oct. 12) alongside performances from the NFL, college football and MLB playoffs. The Brazilian earned the respect of Mia Hamm (who RTed the highlight video from her twitter account) and 2015 World Cup champion Christen Press, who broke down the goal on Fox Sports The Buzzer. A Year Ago UCF earned its second Sweet 16 berth in four years in the program s eighth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Knights repeated as the American Athletic Conference s regular season champion, bringing their hardware total to three trophies in two years. UCF matched the school record for wins in a season (18) and put up its first undefeated slate at home since Tatiana Coleman (18th pick) and Carleigh Williams (31st pick) were both selected in the NWSL Draft, marking the third straight year that at least one Knight has been chosen. UCF finished the year at No. 16 in the national rankings. The Knights have received a nod in the final NSCAA Top-25 in five of the past six seasons. In 2014, she guided the Knights to their second NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in four years and the American regular season title. UCF posted its first undefeated home slate (11-0) since 1999, matched the school record for wins in a season (18) and was nationally ranked through much of the year. In her first season (2013), she led UCF to a school-record unbeaten streak (18 matches), an NSCAA national standing through much of the year and the program s first undefeated conference season since In addition, UCF made history as the first program to win an American Athletic Conference Championship. Roberts Sahaydak came to Orlando after serving six seasons at VCU alongside her co-head coach, husband and current UCF associate head coach Tim Sahaydak. Roberts Sahaydak spent a decade with the U.S. National Team from , earning 110 caps (with 60 starts). Her career was highlighted by three women s World Cups - among them, the unforgettable 1999 championship - and a gold medal with the 1996 Olympic team. A native of San Ramon, Calif., she debuted for the Stars and Stripes in 1994 when she was only 16 as one of the youngest players ever to suit up for the National Team. She played in her first FIFA Women s World Cup a month after her 18th birthday and won Olympic gold before she was out of her teens (USSoccer.com). As a collegian, Roberts Sahaydak was a standout midfielder for North Carolina ( ) as a three-time All-ACC First Team selection. She led the Tar Heels to two NCAA titles (1996, 1997) during her tenure, was voted the 1998 ACC Tournament MVP and finished third in voting for collegiate soccer s highest honor, the Hermann Trophy. She still ranks among the top five for career starts in UNC s record book. She was a two-time captain for the Carolina Courage in the first fully professional U.S. women s league (Women s United Soccer Association). She helped the Courage win the 2002 title after finishing last in the team s inaugural campaign one year prior. Roberts Sahaydak took over VCU s program in 2007 and led the Rams to three conference championship game appearances. She was voted as the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association Co-Head Coach of the Year, along with her husband, Tim. The duo mentored two CAA Defenders of the Year, one CAA Rookie of the Year and 20 all-conference players, including six first-team honorees.
