Ark Pine Bluff (82) at Texas Southern (90) INSIDE THE SWAC THIS WEEK What s On Tap: With nearly half of the 2010 SWAC women s basketball season in the books, week #5 of conference play will see 10 scheduled match ups including a nationally televised game and a mid week make up contest. Last Week: As the SWAC teams continue to flip flop and shift in the standings, Prairie View A&M remains steady at the number one spot with its unblemished 7 0 record. Despite playing arguably their toughest conference contest against UAPB last Saturday, the Lady Panthers escaped with an victory before taking down MVSU on Monday to remain undefeated. The wins extended PVAM s conference win streak to 23 games. Southern continued its impressive win streak when it defeated Alabama A&M and Alabama State, making it six in a row since dropping its first two conference games. The Jaguars took over the #2 spot in the standings with the wins. Also going 2 0 last week were Texas Southern and Alcorn State. The Lady Tigers jumped two slots in the SWAC rankings and now claim the #3 position. The Lady Braves, who ve won four of their last five games, are now tied for fourth in the SWAC. Grambling State also picked up a win in its only game last week against Jackson State. SWAC Women s Basketball Action Live on ESPNU: Monday s match up between Prairie View A&M and Alabama State will be televised live on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be played at ASU s Acadome in Montgomery, AL and will be the first of three televised SWAC women s basketball games this season. On March 1st, Arkansas Pine Bluff and Jackson State will battle live on the U at 3:30 p.m. (CT). The March 13 th Women s Championship game in Shreveport, LA is also set for a national television audience as the last two teams standing vie for the conference title.

Arkansas Pine Bluff. In two wins for the Lady Tigers, Rosigi averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals including six crucial points during overtime in a victory over Arkansas Pine Bluff on Monday.This is Rosigi s second consecutive week as Newcomer of the Week. 4 SWAC Women s Basketball Preseason Honors The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its Women s Basketball Preseason All Conference honor with Prairie View A&M F Gaati Werema voted as Preseason Player of the Year and Alabama A&M G Katrich Williams selected Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers, three time defending regular season champions and the defending SWAC Tournament Champions, were picked to win their fourth consecutive title. Honors were voted on by the league s coaches, sports information departments and selected members of the media. Werema, the reigning SWAC Player of the Year, was fourth in the conference in scoring (12.2 ppg), first in rebounds (7.7 rpg), second in field goal percentage (48.2) and fifth in free throw percentage (75.6). The 6 foot 0 senior from Orlando, FL was second in the conference in double double games (six) and tied for second in 20 point games (four). Williams, a 5 8 senior from Chattanooga, TN, was second in the league in scoring (13.8 ppg), and free throw percentage (79.1) and fifth in field goal percentage (33.6). She ranked eighth in the league in steals (1.8) last season, but also posted three 20 point scoring games for the Bulldogs.
