2 LAST TIME OUT Old Dominion shot over 50 percent from the field for the sixth time this season and remained undefeated in those contests, picking up a 7867 win over Towson Tuesday evening at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The win improves the Monarchs to 217 on the year and 133 in Colonial Athletic Association play., which remains tied with Northeastern atop the conference standings, has now won 22 consecutive homes games, ranking as the third longest home winning streak in Division I. our players scored in double figures for Old Dominion, including junior rank Hassell who scored a teamhigh 15 points on 7of10 shooting. The Chesapeake, Va. native also grabbed six boards and rejected a gamehigh three shots. Senior erald Lee and junior Keyon Carter also contributed to s 5228 advantage in the paint, chipping in 14 and 13 respectively. Dimitri Batten (Newport News, Va.) and Richard Ross (Wichita alls, Texas). I couldn t be more pleased with the two kids we attracted to our program this fall, said Taylor. They are really good kids, coachable kids; young men that really fit in well here academically and of course, talentwise. Batten, a Hampton Roads native, will come to Old Dominion as a 63 guard from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton. In his junior season, he averaged 21 points per game, adding seven boards, six assists and three steals per contest. Batten is a twotime AllPeninsula player for the Canes. Also joining the Monarchs in 2010 will be 66 forward Richard Ross. Ross currently plays for Coach Don Hedge at Hirschi HS in Wichita alls, Texas; Hedge played for Coach Taylor during his time at the University of. A twotime irst Team AllDistrict in his sophomore and junior years, he was also named 2009 Offensive Player of the Year in the district. He has averaged a doubledouble in each of the last two seasons and also finished second in the state track meet in the high jump (6 10 ). Erla Dogg Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland) swam the 100 breast and 200 IM in Beijing this past summer. 13 Points of Pride The pride of Old Dominion University and its athletic programs reflects the Recognition of the excellence of our program Accomplishments of our StudentAthletes in or more than 30 years, 90% of Old Dominion s studentathletes that have exhausted their eligibility have graduated, a percentage far above the national average. Old Dominion University athletic teams have captured 28 team national championships and four individual titles, including a men s basketball crown in Division II in 1975, three titles in women s basketball, nine in field hockey, 15 in sailing, and individual championships in wrestling and women s tennis. Old Dominion has been the site of five NCAA women s national championships including the 1982 and 1983 basketball inal our and the 1985, 1986 & 2000 field hockey tournaments. Old Dominion was selected as one of 45 institutions nationally for the NCAA Pilot Certification Program, a pioneer program that looked at the athletic department s overall operations, including philosophy, academic requirements, competition, etc. Old Dominion was among one of the first institutions to implement a successful drug testing and education program, now entering its 13th year. The SACS Committee commended the University and the Athletic Department on its program of high integrity, honesty, fiscal soundness and effective management, noting that excellent people, facilities and services are in place Old Dominion University was the first institution in Virginia to offer grantsinaid for women athletes, beginning in Old Dominion s nine national titles in field hockey are unprecedented in NCAA record books for most titles in that sport by the same school.
