Stand-out senior forward Delaney Hodgins continues to carry the load, averaging 19.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore Symone Starks paces the Eagles on the defensive end as she averages 3.4 steals per game and has recorded four steals or more in seven games so far this season. Eastern Washington will host Idaho in its lone contest of the week. IDAHO (6-9, 2-2) Idaho lost to Sacramento State (79-64) and defeated Portland State (101-90) last week. Idaho s Mikayla Ferenz has absolutely torched Big Sky opponents so far. The junior averaged 36.0 points per game last week, scoring 33 points versus Sacramento State, while dropping 39 points on Portland State. Idaho will take on Eastern Washington this week. IDAHO STATE (9-5, 1-2) Idaho State suffered another tough conference loss to Southern Utah (76-70) before it bounced back with its first Big Sky win over Northern Arizona (75-55). The Bengals are led by senior guard Brooke Blair and her point percentage, which ranks first in the nation. Idaho State will look to get its second and third conference wins of the season as the Bengals host North Dakota and Northern Colorado this week. MONTANA (7-8, 3-1) Montana went 1-1, topping North Dakota (54-43) and losing to Northern Colorado (68-50). The Lady Griz are still at the top of the standings with a 3-1 league record so far. Montana s defense has been able to hold Big Sky foes in check as the Lady Griz rank second in the conference in average points allowed (61.0) in league games. Montana will host both Sacramento State and Portland State this week. Big Sky Weekly Release The Big Sky Conference will produce a weekly women s basketball release every Tuesday during the 2017 season. Players of the Week Each week of the 2017 season the Big Sky selects an offensive and defensive player of the week. Nominations are made by each institution s SIDs. MONTANA STATE (8-7, 2-2) After a 2-0 start in conference play, the Bobcats dropped a pair of contests to Northern Colorado (82-69) and North Dakota (79-70). As a team, Montana State ranks first in the Big Sky in 3-pointers made per game (12.8) in conference contests. Montana State will host Portland State and Sacramento State this week. NORTH DAKOTA (8-7, 1-3) North Dakota could not put enough points on the board to get past Montana, but the Fighting Hawks did pick up their first Big Sky victory of the campaign with a win over Montana State. North Dakota plays a physical brand of basketball, getting to the free throw line often. Junior forward Lexi Klabo leads the Big Sky and ranks sixth in the nation with 119 free throws made on the season. 3 Big Sky Women s Basketball Notebook Team Notes NORTHERN ARIZONA (4-11, 1-3) The Lumberjacks scored a huge win (76-75) over previously unbeaten Weber State for its first league win of the season last week. Northern Arizona lost later in the week to Idaho State (75-55) to go 1-1. In all games, Northern Arizona ranks second in the Big Sky in rebounds per game (42.3). NAU will take on Southern Utah at home this week. NORTHERN COLORADO (12-3, 4-0) Northern Colorado remains the only undefeated team in the Big Sky with wins over Montana State (82-69) and Montana (68-50). Savannah Scored a career-high 32 points against Montana State to push her points per game average to Big Sky opponents who fall behind to the Bears late will have a tough time getting back in it as Northern Colorado ranks third in the nation in free-throw percentage as a team (82.4). Northern Colorado will put its perfect conference record to the test against Weber State and Idaho State this week. PORTLAND STATE (8-6, 2-1) Portland State grounded the Eagles of Eastern Washington (75-60) and fell to Idaho (101-90). freshman Kylie Jimenez has certainly impressed in her first year at Portland State as she ranks 10 in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (3.00). Jimenez also leads all Big Sky freshman with 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game. The Vikings will battle Montana State and Montana this week. SACRAMENTO STATE (3-11, 1-2) Sacramento State bested Idaho (79-64) and lost to Eastern Washington (83-72). Senior guard Maranne Johnson upped her defensive game this week, swiping 10 steals over two games. Johnson ranks third in the Big Sky with 41 total steals this year. Sacramento State will travel to Montana and Montana State this week. SOUTHERN UTAH (2-13, 1-3) Southern Utah rallied to defeat Idaho State at home (76-70) and pick up its first league win of the year. The T-Birds lost later in the week to Weber State. In conference games this season, SUU averages a Big Sky-best 10.3 steals per game. Southern Utah will travel to a little further south to play Northern Arizona this week. WEBER STATE (10-4, 2-1) Weber State fell victim to a loss to Northern Arizona, but rebounded against Southern Utah (77-64). Weber State s Jocelyn Adams is currently the Big Sky s leading rebounder in conference games, averaging 10.7 boards a game. Weber State will look to remain towards the top of the league with contests against Northern Colorado and North Dakota this week.
