(Nov. 8, 2018) The Dakota State University (S.D.) Trojan men s basketball team (0-4 overall record) looks for their first win of the season as they play their home opener on Saturday evening. DSU also is scheduled to play on the road on Tuesday evening. Dakota State hosts Northwestern (Iowa) (3-1 overall record) of the reat Plains Athletic Conference on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans return on the road on Tuesday evening at Trinity Bible (N.D.) (0-0 overall record). The game is set to be played at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse (50 6th Ave. South) in Ellendale, N.D. with a tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. DSU fell short in a pair of games in the South Dakota/NAIA Basketball Classic last weekend in Sioux Falls, S.D. No. 17-ranked Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) pulled away late for a victory over the Trojans on Nov. 3. Dakota State fell short for the first win of the season, falling to Mount Marty (S.D.) on Nov. 4. Northwestern (Iowa) suffered its first setback of the season, falling to DWU in the PAC conference opener on Nov. 7. The Red Raiders are 2-0 record against North Star conference foes, defeating Mayville State (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) at home last weekend. Trinity Bible are playing their first games of the season this weekend at home. Next Up: Dakota State returns home on Tuesday, Nov. 20 for a non-conference game versus Dordt (Iowa). The streak began in season when the Trojans defeated Dordt (Iowa) in their home opener on Nov. 9, The Trojans host Northwestern (Iowa) in the home opener for the second time in three years. DSU defeated NWIA in a thriller on Oct. 27, DSU is seeking for the first win against members of the reat Plains Athletic Conference. Dakota State is 0-3 record against PAC members (lost to Doane, Neb., Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty). Dakota State is the co-host with Northwestern (Iowa) for the NAIA Division II Men s Basketball National Tournament through 2020 on the Heritage Court at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. The Trojans drained a total of 34 3-pointers this season, 38th-most in the nation. DSU drained a season-high 14 3-pointers, despite falling short to Mount Marty on Nov. 4. Brady Elder dished out a career-high 10 assists in the game. produced a pair of double-doubles this season for Dakota State. He scored 23 points and collected 10 rebounds at Doane (Neb.) on Oct. 26. Folkers added 16 points and 11 rebounds versus Mount Marty (S.D.) on Nov. 4. Folkers and Mcreal each are shooting at least 50 percent from the field. (Nov. 3, 2018) Nationally-ranked No. 17 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) held Dakota State (S.D.) to two points in the final three-plus minutes, pulling away for a victory on the first day of the South Dakota/NAIA Basketball Classic at Sanford Pentagon. The Trojans scored its first six points of the game for 6-0 lead, but the Tigers used a 19-6 run for the biggest lead of the game at with 8:28 left in the first-half. DWU led by halftime. Down 67-57, Folkers scored six straight points to reduce DSU s deficit down to with 3:16 on the clock. The Tigers would close the game with a 10-2 run to secure the victory. Folkers led Dakota State with 20 points on his 9-of-17 field goal shooting. Josh Mcreal added 19 points on his 8-of-11 field goals. Anthony Costello had eight points. Folkers grabbed nine rebounds for the Trojans. Mcreal had seven rebounds. Johnson had six rebounds and four assists. Johnson and Carson Rentz each stole the ball once. DWU shot 48.2 percent from the field (27-of-56) compared to DSU 45.3 percent (29-of-64). The Tigers went 13of-30 from the 3-point line while the Trojans were 4-of-14 3-pointers. LANCERS HOLD OFF TROJANS Sioux Falls, S.D. (Nov. 4, 2018) Mount Marty (S.D.) erased Dakota State s (S.D.) biggest lead of the game early in the secondhalf, holding on to a victory on the second day of the South Dakota/NAIA Basketball Classic at Sanford Pentagon. After MMC s lay-up to kick off the secondhalf (Trojans led 37-36), DSU put together a 10-0 scoring spurt to grab a lead with 17:49 remaining. The Lancers answered back after the timeout by scoring 11 straight points to knot the game at with 14:28 left. MMC opened up a lead with 6:48 left and never looked back for the victory. DSU missed a pair of scoring chances to tie the game at the end of the game. The Lancers outscored the Trojans in the second-half (DSU led at halftime). Three DSU players scored in double digits, led by with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Josh Mcreal added 13 points. Carson Rentz had 11 points off the bench. FOLKERS ECLIPSES 1,000-POINT CLUB Folkers eclipse 1,000-point club Justin Folkers surpassed his 1,000-point club during his career at Dakota State (S.D.). He eclipsed that milestone during the Dakota Wesleyan s (S.D.) game at the South Dakota/NAIA Basketball Classic on Nov. 3. Folkers poured in 20 points in the game, despite a defeat to the Tigers. He currently have a total of 1,022 points during his career at DSU. He scored 122 points during his freshman season, 335 points in his sophomore season and piled up 472 points last year. Folkers scored a total of 86 points this season for the Trojans, averaging 21.5 points per game. He is 31st in the NAIA Division II in points scored per game and 36th in total scoring. He currently leads the North Star conference in scoring per game. 3

During his tenure at Dakota State, the men's basketball program has undergone a transformation from a bottom dweller to a top quality team in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball. arner guided the Trojans to back-to-back North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) regular-season co-champions and the NSAA's automatic bid to the national tournament after winning the conference postseason tournament from He had took his squads to the NAIA Division II National Tournament four times in a span of five years. The Trojans established a new school record for most consecutive victories in , winning nine straight games including capturing the NSAA Men's Basketball Postseason Conference Tournament Championship ame held at DSU Fieldhouse. He was named to the NSAA Conference Coach-of-the-Year after guiding the Trojans to back-to-back conference tournament champions and regular-season conference titles. arner has surpassed former men's basketball head coach Brian McDermott for the second-most victories as the head coach at Dakota State in arner has accumulated a total of 136 victories since his arrival at DSU in Along the way, arner guided his teams to back-to-back Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Postseason Tournament Champions, appearances in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament (advancing to the 'Elite Eight' in 2013) and recorded the most wins (25) in DSU men's basketball team history in arner's teams had recorded double digits wins for seven consecutive seasons for the first time in 20 years. He is overall record (.544 winning percentage) during his coaching era at Dakota State and career collegiate record. arner was named the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Dakota State produced seven All-Conference players, an All- American Second Team athlete, two NAIA All-American Honorable Mention athletes and three Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes during arner's coaching tenure at Dakota State. arner's collegiate experience is primarily on the Division I and II levels. Prior to coming to Dakota State, he has served as the assistant coach for Iowa Energy, a team with the NBA Development League, for two seasons ( and ). He served as head basketball coach at Southeast Missouri State University from From , he led the men's team at Fort Hays State University. His team won the NCAA Division II Tournament, capping a perfect 34-0 season. That same year, arner was named the NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. arner also served stints as head coach at Drake University and Missouri Southern University. He has been an assistant at the University of Missouri and Tulsa University. His coaching career has included multiple appearances at the NCAA Division II Tournament. 6 NATHANIEL RAUEN Assistant Coach 2nd Season Alma Mater: Dakota State (S.D.) Nathaniel Rauen will be entering his sixth year with the Trojan men's basketball program four years as an athlete on the team and starting his second season on the coaching staff. Rauen, originally from Zumbrota, Minn., was a four-year letter winner for the Trojans. He was an integral member of the DSU men's basketball team that won back-to-back North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) men's basketball regularseason and postseason conference titles in 2015 and In addition, the Trojans qualified for the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament those seasons. He was also a four-time North Star Winter Sports Scholar-Athlete. Upon graduation with his degree in secondary math education in 2017, Rauen enrolled in the MSET graduate program at Dakota State University. He is completing his third semester of the master's program and plans to graduate this December. Rauen was the head junior varsity as well as a graduate assistant coach this past season for the Trojan men's basketball program. He resides in Madison, S.D. TREVOR FLEMMER Assistant Coach 1st Season Alma Mater: Presentation (S.D.) Trevor Flemmer is entering his first season as Dakota State University men's basketball assistant coach. He comes from Briar Cliff (Iowa) University where he was a graduate assistant coach in season, taking the Chargers to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament quarterfinals. He was also the junior varsity head coach. Prior coming to Briar Cliff, Flemmer was an assistant men's basketball coach at Riverland Community College in Austin, Minn. He helped guided the squad to a 22-8 record (22 wins was a school record). As an assistant at Riverland, his duties included developing practice plans, assisting during practices and games, recruiting athletes and developing workouts for specific position. Flemmer was also the head strength and conditioning coach for Riverland CC men's basketball team. While coaching at Riverland CC, Flemmer coached cross-fit from 2016 to 2017 and was also the team strength coach at Presentation (S.D.) in Before coaching cross-fit, Flemmer was the head baseball coach for a 14-year old baseball team in Aberdeen, S.D. from Flemmer played collegiate basketball at Presentation from He graduated from Presentation with a bachelor's degree in exercise science in He earned NAIA scholar-athlete distinction, as well as North Star Athletic Association Scholar athlete award.
