2 2 MORE ON THE MATCHUP BINGHAMTON vs. VERMONT All-Time Series: UVM leads UVM won the first seven meetings alltime with Binghamton. The Catamounts have lost five straight meetings and six of the last seven games to the Bearcats. Last season in Binghamton on Feb. 6, UVM lost However, Sydney Smith scored 24 points while Hanna Crymble added 18. UVM lost at Patrick Gym on Jan. 31. Hayley Robertson scored 11 points. SCOUTING BINGHAMTON 17-8 overall, 9-4 in non-conference play, 6-4 at home, 10-3 on the road, and no neutral site games thus far. Record of 8-4 to begin America East play. Imani Watkins leads the conference in scoring (21.5 PPG). She ranks 13th in the nation in that category and leads all NCAA Division I players in field goals attempted (503). Alyssa James leads the America East and is seventh in the nation in blocks (3.3). All-time blocker leader at Binghamton and in America East. Leads conference in rebounds (9.9 RPG). Leads the conference in rebounding (39.6 RPG), field goal percentage defense (36.1%) and second in scoring (65.5). Bearcats have the fifth fewest fouls per game in the nation. LINDA CIMINO is in her 4th season as head coach of the Bearcats. Previously, she was head coach at Caldwell University (D-II) between Binghamton was picked to finish last in the America East in , but Cimino helped lead the team to a three-way tie for third place in the conference. Cimino was recently appointed to the NCAA Women s Basketball Rules Committee. She has served on the NCAA Women s Basketball Regional Advisory Committee, in which she was also a NCAA site represenative for two regional (East) tournaments. Cimino is the winningest coach at Caldwell ( ) and went in her last five years there (averaging 18 wins per season). This is the first year in which every Bearcat is her recruit. A native of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Cimino graduated from Adelphi University in 2001 and received her master s degree from Adelphi in NEWS AND NOTES ALL THE WRIGHT REASONS Junior Candice Wright continues to leave a mark on the record book. The native of Cambridge, Ontario has registered 136 blocks in her career, the most among any Catamount for a career. Wright became the sole leader in that category with five blocks at Rider on Dec. 1. She has recorded two more five-block games: vs. CCSU on Dec. 21 and at Stony Brook on Jan. 13. As a freshman two years ago, Wright logged 50 blocks, setting a single-season program record in that category. Of the top-4 UVM shot blockers of alltime (not named Candice Wright), none had more than 46 through their sophomore campaign. It took Wright just one season to reach 50 blocks. Candice Wright is averaging just under 2 blocks per game through the first 25 games of the regular season. I D LIKE TO THANK THE ACADEMY Hanna Crymble won the America East Player of the Week award for the week ending on Nov. 19, On Friday, Nov. 17 vs. Howard, the sophomore scored a career-high 37 points and tied a careerhigh with 13 rebounds for her lone doubledouble this season. She won the America East Co-Player of the Week Award for the week ending on Jan. 7. Crymble ranks second in the America East in scoring (18.2 PPG), second in field goal percentage (55.9%) and first in free throw percentage (90.1%). Her free throw percentage ranks 9th among all NCAA Division I players. Crymble has registered double figures in 22 of 25 games this season and has scored 20+ points in nine of those games. Her 17 straight double-digit scoring game streak snapped vs. Binghamton on Jan. 31. Crymble has eclipsed the 30-point mark in two games. SYDNEY SMITH: 1K With a 16-point performance against Florida International University in Miami on Dec. 30, Sydney Smith became just the 21st player in program history to score 1,000 points for a career. The Catamounts senior co-captain is the first player to reach that mark since Niki Taylor did so in Smith has also made 182 three-point field goals in her career, which ranks 4th in program history. LAST TIME OUT February 11 at UMass Lowell: Vermont s two-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday with a loss at UMass Lowell. It was the River Hawks first America East victory since Feb. 8, 2016 (against UVM in Burlington). It also snapped a 15-game losing streak for UMass Lowell. The River Hawks were led by three players in double-figures in the scoring column. Sydney Smith was the leading scorer for Vermont with 19 points, while Hanna Crymble added 11 points of her own. UVM controlled the tempo until the third quarter, when UMass Lowell took the lead and began to appear hungry for its first conference victory in more than two years. As a team, the Catamounts shot 40% from the floor, 21% (6-28) from beyond the three-point arc and 80% (8-10) at the free throw line. MORE DEPTH IN With Sydney Smith back on the court, the Catamounts have instantly upgraded. The senior can score consistently. When healthy, Smith s numbers speak for themselves as she led the team with 12.1 points per game in before her season came to an abrupt ending due to a knee injury. Senior Katie Lavelle is seeing solid minutes at point guard with freshmen Kianna Funderburk backing her up. Coach Day feels good about what that duo can bring to the table. Sophomore Hanna Crymble is one of the more dynamic players on the roster. Her versatility continues to improve, as she posted a double-double in the Nov. 4 game against St. Michael s. Crymble should have a chance to be an All- Conference player in after a season in which she was selected to the conference s All-Rookie Team. After sitting out , junior Cassidy Derda is cleared to play for the Catamounts. The South Burlington native could not play last season after playing for St. Francis Brooklyn. She has two years of eligibility remaining. There were some positives for the Catamounts last season despite a 9-20 record. UVM led the America East in FG% defense (36%) and finished second in 3-pt % defense (29.5%). Vermont was one of three America East teams (including Binghamton and Albany) to average more than 4 blocks per game. The team seeks to lower turnovers this season. That figure was at 18.4 per game last season. With a deeper lineup, this team aims to score at least 60 PPG this season. However, the biggest key to this season is to maintain a healthy roster, which was not the case last year.

Went 9-20 in his first campaign with UVM. While at Penn, Day assisted the Quakers to a (.761) record, including a 36-6 (.857) mark in Ivy League play and two trips to the NCAA Tournament. In , Penn amassed a program-record 24 victories to culminate a three-season streak of 21-plus wins. Previously, the Philadelphia native had stops at Indiana ( ), Saint Joseph s ( ) and La Salle ( ). Under his guidance, Indiana doubled its Big Ten win total from the season. Played four years professionally overseas after graduating. In , she led Sepsi-Sic Romania to the championship game and was named the league MVP. She previously spent half a year in France, a season and a half in Slovakia, and one season in Hungary.
