4 >>Scholarship donations A full scholarship at Texas Tech University now costs almost $10,000 per year, and the Red Raider Club s goal is to completely fund all scholarships. To reach that goal, we now offer four scholarship-level benefit packages for our most prestigious annual donors. >>Athletic Director s Council A donation of $25,000 covers the scholarship costs of one student-athlete from outside the state of Texas, as well as an instate student-athlete. An endowed account guarantees spendable income annually while the corpus of the gift continues to build for the future. For a one-time gift of $50,000, you can establish a Red Raider Club Lifetime Endowment. This gift will cover a Bronze Raider donation in perpetuity, ensuring you receive all the appropriate benefits. In addition, you will be honored with a bronzed picture in Athletic Lounge and recognition during a home football game. Jones Endowed Scholarship A self-educated businessman and civic leader, Clifford B. Jones was a successful banker, rancher, company executive, and public servant. He became president of Texas Tech University in The Clifford B. Jones Endowed Scholarship Fund represents the highest level of giving to Texas Tech athletics. Created in 1999, the scholarship fund is designed to ensure the quality and excellence of the athletic program at Texas Tech University. Prior to his death in 1972, Jones and his wife Audrey provided the first gift to establish the initial Clifford B. Jones Scholarship. The Goal of the Jones Scholarship Fund is to permanently and fully endow athletic scholarships for all 17 sports at Texas Tech. To accomplish this, $40 million dollars must be secured. A minimum of $200,000 is required to fund an endowed Jones scholarship. At this level of giving, donors create an endowment in support of an athletic position of their choice. For example, a donor may choose to support a scholarship for the position of quarterback, running back, or defensive end. 6 >>History The Red Raider Club has helped sustain Texas Tech Athletics for 75 years. Originally known as the Matador Club, the Red Raider Club was founded to encourage athletic excellence at Tech. This excerpt from the January 31, 1926, Lubbock Avalanche- Journal describes the beginnings of the Red Raider Club. The Matador Club was organized at the opening of the college term to support college athletics and to develop close contact between the people of the plains and the college students and faculty members in order that all athletic programs may be given the whole-hearted support of everyone. The article refers to the very first fund drive and its $3,700 goal. The Matador Club called on the people of Lubbock and the surrounding areas to meet specific expenses. Over time, our name has changed, our base of support has stretched nationwide, and scholarships have become our primary focus. Obviously, $3,700 does not go as far as it used to. However, the original spirit of active support for Texas Tech Athletics lives on at the Red Raider Club.
