THE SERIES: ASU leads the overall series 22-6, but the Jags defeated the Lady Indians at Mobile when the two teams squared off last season. Before that, Arkansas State won the previous three meetings. In the last 10 games between the two schools, the series is tied at 5-5. Heading into the season, Boyer ranked sixth in the Sun Belt Conference in all-time conference wins with 55. Rick Pietri is currently in his seventh season as head coach at South Alabama. Pietri led the Jaguars to back-to-back Sun Belt West titles in 2003 and 2004, with WNIT appearances in both of those seasons. He currently holds a record as head coach at South Alabama. The Jags are led in scoring and rebounding by senior forward Whitney Woodard, who averages 13.4 points and 7.3 boards per game. Junior guard Monique Jones and senior guard Raena Ellis are also scoring in double figures for the Jaguars, with Jones averaging 12.6 points per game, and Ellis adding 10.0 points per night. Senior Guard Valencia Boswell has a team-high 29 assists on the season, while sophomore forward/center Patriece Brunner has blocked at team-high 13 shots. BIG WEEK FOR SIMS: Arkansas State senior guard Rudy Sims was named the Sun Belt Conference women's basketball Player of the Week Dec. 19 for her triple-double effort in the Lady Indians' overtime victory over Louisiana- Lafayette Dec. 16. Sims recorded ASU's first triple-double in over a decade when she scored 14 points, Sims grabbed 11 rebounds, and handed out 11 assists in 41 minutes played. Sims also notched three steals in the game, and her steal, layup, and free throw early in the overtime period ignited a 9-0 run to help the Lady Indians put the game out of reach. The assist, rebound, and minutes played totals were all career highs for the three-time All-Sun Belt Conference performer. FORMER TEAMMATES CLASH: ASU senior Rudy Sims and USA senior Whitney Woodard, former teammates at Memphis East High School, are meeting for the fifth time in their college careers. Sims and the Lady Indians currently hold a 3-1 record over USA and the Jags since the two players began their college careers during the season. NOTCHING NOTABLE WINS: The Lady Indians are currently the only team in the Sun Belt Conference this season to have defeated three teams with an RPI rating in the current top 100. Sims averaged 22 points during the two-day tournament, adding five rebounds and four steals against San Jose State, while Davie averaged 21 points and six rebounds during the tournament. Sims scored a season high 25 points and added a season-high four steals against San Jose State in the Lady Indians win Dec. 2. Davie, a 6-3 center who was named to the Sun Belt s Preseason All- Conference first team, posted a doubledouble in the Lady Indians games against Missouri State and Purdue. In ASU's win at Missouri State Nov. 20, Davie scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. In a loss to No. 10 Purdue Nov. 24, Davie pulled down 10 Davie rebounds to go along with 13 points, and in the Lady Indians' victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Sunday afternoon, she scored 21 points, notched 11 rebounds, and matched her career-high in blocked shots with four. As a team, we had a very successful week of basketball with two wins and a very competitive loss to a top-ranked team, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. Adrianne was a big part of that. With what she did on both the offensive and defensive ends and on the boards, she had a great week of basketball. Davie leads the Lady Indians in both scoring and rebounding on the season, and has posted a total of 41 double-doubles in her career. MORE ON DAVIE: Davie is now in second place on the ASU all-time blocked shots chart. With 94 blocks in her career, Davie needs just one more to move into a first place tie with Chiquita Tucker, who played for ASU during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Davie also is in third place in the ASU career rebounding chart with 955 career boards. Davie has 97 rebounds on the season, and needs 101 more to become the all-time leader. Her career total also puts her in the Sun Belt Conference top ten list of all time rebounders at No. 9. Davie is also in fifth place on the ASU alltime scoring list with 1,491 career points, needing just 48 more to take over fourth place. SIMS MOVING UP: Lady Indian senior guard Rudy Sims moved into sixth place on the all-time ASU scoring list last week. Sims currently stands at 1,331 career points, and also ranks third on the ASU all-time assists chart with 438. Sims needs just 42 assists to become the alltime leader at ASU. Sims' career total of 438 also moves her into the Sun Belt Conference all-time top-20 list, ranking her at No. 18. Sims also ranks seventh on the ASU all-time steals list with 182, and sixth in all-time 3-pointers made with 127 CARTER CLIMBING: Senior guard Ali Carter moved into seventh place last week in career 3-point field goals made at ASU with 122 made shots from behind the arc. BIG ROAD WINS: With its win at Missouri State Nov. 20, ASU became just the 33rd visiting team to win on the Lady Bears' home court since the season. Missouri State holds a record on its home court during the past 18 seasons...asu s overtime victory at Louisiana-Lafayette Dec. 16 was only the seventh loss for the Ragin Cajuns at Earl K. Long Gym. The Lady Indians defeated the Ragin Cajuns at Lafayette last season as well. Additionally, under head coach J. Kelley Hall, the Ragin Cajuns are 55-8 when leading at the half, and three of those losses have come at the hands of Arkansas State. PUTTING UP POINTS: The 90 points posted by the Lady Indians Dec. 2 against San Jose State is the highest offensive output of the season. BEST IN THE WEST: The Lady Indians were chosen by the Sun Belt coaches as No. 1 team in the Sun Belt s West Division for the upcoming season. ASU received a league-high 10 first place votes to top the poll. LAST TIME OUT: LAFAYETTE, La., ( ) - Arkansas State senior guard Rudy Sims recorded the first tripledouble in the history of the ASU women's basketball program, sparking the Lady Indians to a overtime victory over the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (8-4, 1-1) Saturday night at Earl K. Long Gym. The game was the Sun Belt Conference opener for ASU, and boosted the Lady Indians to 7-4 overall on the season. Sims finished the night with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, overshadowing the fifth double-double of the season by senior center Adrianne Davie, who finished the game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Sims' effort was even more remarkable considering she started the game 0-for-8 from the floor. I have been coaching a lot of years either as an assistant or as a head coach, and that was my first triple-double to see in person, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. It is a huge accomplishment, especially because of the way it happened. She was struggling from the field, but she didn't quit. She is such a great example for young players. When her shot wasn't falling, she found another way. She got double figure rebounds and double figure assists, and then all of a sudden the shots start falling. The Lady Indians rallied from a fivepoint deficit in the final five minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime. Davie hit a short jumper with 1:51 to play in regulation to pull the Lady Indians within a point a 50-49, and sophomore guard Caroline Starr tied the game at with a free throw at the one-minute mark. Arkansas State had an opportunity to win the game in regulation, but Sims' driving shot in the lane with six seconds remaining was short of the mark. Arkansas State dominated the overtime period, scoring the first nine point to take a lead. Sims' steal, layup and free throw with 3:34 to play ignited the ASU run, and was followed by six straight points from Davie, whose free throw with 1:02 remaining gave ASU its biggest lead of the night at nine points. Louisiana-Lafayette's Sonora Edwards trimmed the Lady Indian lead to with a jumper at the 52-second mark, but Starr responded with a pair of free throws five seconds later to boost the lead back to nine points and put the game away. In the first half, the Lady Indians could not find a rhythm and trailed at the break. Arkansas State turned the ball over 15 times in the opening frame, but stayed in striking distance thanks to 13 first-half points from Davie. The Lady Indians suffered a season-high 28 turnovers in the game, but turned the ball over just once in the overtime period. I think the key to this whole game was that we got to halftime with it still within reach, said Boyer. We almost felt like that was a victory within itself because of our turnovers and the offensive

6 rebounds they were getting. By the time we got to the last couple of minutes, and then in overtime, both teams were really exhausted, added Boyer. It was just a matter of who was going to hit the shots, and fortunately for us, they were trying to score from the outside, and when you get tired, you just don't have the legs. Fortunately we were able to get it inside and get to the free throw line, and hit some key shots when we had to. In addition to the double-digit efforts from Sims and Davie, the Lady Indians also got five points and eight rebounds from Lyndsay Schlup, nine points from Ali Carter and six from Starr. Ebonie Jefferson and Jazmine Taylor added two points each, and Brittney Hiles finished the night with a single point. Yolanda Jones led ULL with 22 points, and Onna Charles added 19. OUTLOOK: Three starters return from last year s team which finished and reached the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament - senior center Adrianne Davie, senior guard Rudy Sims, and junior forward Kelsey Lock. Guard Ali Carter, who sat out last season after suffering a knee injury, also returns for her senior season. Carter earned All-Conference honors during the season, while Sims is a two-time All-Sun Belt player and Davie is a three-time all-conference player who is expected to push for the league s Player of the Year honors. Among the nine letterwinners returning from last year s team, Davie highlights the field, bringing impressive credentials to the court for the season. In addition to her three-time All-Sun Belt honors, Davie became the 14th player in ASU history to reach the 1,000 career points mark. The 6-3 center averaged 15.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game last season. Sims also joined a 1,000 point club last year, and goes into the upcoming season with 389 assists to rank third all-time in ASU history. She averaged 14.0 points per game last season while dishing out 153 assists. Before suffering the knee injury that forced her to sit out last year, Carter averaged 13.9 points per game during the season and shot 87 percent from the free throw line. Like Carter, Lock hopes to bounce back from a knee injury as well. The 6-0 guard/forward played in 23 games before being sidelined with the injury last season, averaging 8.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per outing. Senior forward Tabitha Christian is expected to play a key role as well, and will serve as a team captain along with fellow seniors Davie, Carter and Sims. Junior Rachel Brown, and sophomores Brittney Hiles, Caroline Starr, Shavondra Williams, and Ashley Anderson all return with experience, and Boyer welcomes five true freshmen to the Lady Indian squad. Jazmine Taylor, Melia Pence, Ebonie Jefferson, Veronica Smith and Lyndsay Schlup make up the class of talented newcomers. The Lady Indians open the regular season Nov. 10 on the road against UNC- Charlotte, then return home Nov. 13 for a battle with Southeastern Conference power Alabama. Purdue, ranked No. 13 in the USA Today/ESPN preseason poll also visits the Convocation Center in November, while Oklahoma State visits Jonesboro in early December. MORE ON BOYER: Brian Boyer is entering his eighth season as head coach of the Arkansas State women's basketball team. During his time at the helm of the Lady Indians, he has posted a overall record, which is the second most wins in ASU women's basketball history. He has led the Tribe to three WNIT appearances in his first seven seasons including appearances in two out of the last three seasons. Last season, the Lady Indians posted a overall record as the Tribe advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Center Adrianne Davie earned First Team All-Conference honors last season marking the third straight year in which she has received All-SBC accolades. In the season Boyer guided the Lady Indians to a overall record and an 11-3 Sun Belt record as the Tribe finished in second place in the Sun Belt East Division. Boyer picked up his second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year award following the season, and joined former ASU head coach Jerry Ann Winters as the only two women's basketball coaches at ASU to win back-toback coach of the year honors. Before assuming the head coaching role at ASU, Boyer was no stranger to the Arkansas State women's basketball program, coming to Arkansas State with former head coach Jeff Mittie when he was hired as head coach in Together, the two helped the program to a record, including an record in the season with an appearance in the Women's NIT, ASU's first postseason appearance in five years. Boyer graduated from Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in education. He was an assistant coach for the men's program for six seasons, including the last three, which he spent as an assistant with the women's program as well. As an assistant to the men's team, Missouri Western was an NCAA Division II Tournament participant five years (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995) and won two conference championships. As a women's assistant, Boyer and Missouri Western made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1995 and the Elite Eight the previous season. Boyer prepped at Scotland County High School in Memphis, Mo., and graduated from there in He is married to the former Rhonda Lane of Marked Tree, Arkansas. She is a graduate of ASU. THE ASU ASSISTANTS: Tanya Ray enters her fifth season at Arkansas State as a women's basketball assistant coach. Ray, a native of Brenham, TX, serves as the Lady Indians' recruiting coordinator in which she organizes all aspects of the recruiting process and specializes in upper class recruiting. She also works with the Lady Indian posts and helps to oversee the team defense. Ray is also in charge of monitoring the academic progress of the team's student-athletes. She is the team liaison for campus life and assists in opponent scouting. She received

She graduated from BHS in Rebecca Chilton Peoples enters her fifth season with the Arkansas State women's basketball program. Peoples, a native of Buckeye, Ariz., is a recruiting assistant for the Tribe with an emphasis on underclass recruiting. She is in charge of on-campus visits and works with the development of the Lady Indian guards. She assists in the scouting of ASU opponents. Peoples coordinates the ASU home practice schedule and is the liaison to the strength and conditioning program. She is also responsible for the Lady Indian Basketball elementary camp and the NEA Tournament Programs. Peoples received her degree in physical education from Prescott College, and is married to Arkansas State assistant football coach Kevin Peoples. Carrie Redman is in her first season as an assistant coach with Arkansas State s women s basketball program. Redman played her collegiate career at the University of Arkansas from During her first year the Lady Razorbacks were WNIT runner-ups and in her junior year ( ) she played in the NCAA Final Four as the lowest seeded team ever to advance (eighth seed) to the semifinals. The Lady Indians committed 25 turnovers in the game, while handing out just seven assists. Their pressure was one of our problems, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. Charlotte really, really pressured us, and our answer to is was to bury our heads and go one-on-one too much. Rather than utilizing each other as a team, we just went one-on-one, and that got us in trouble with the turnovers. Charlotte built a lead at the break, then scored the first eight of the second half to stretch the lead to before Rudy Sims stopped the drought with a short jumper at the 17:21 mark. Arkansas State managed to cut the 49er lead to single digits when senior Adrianne Davie hit a three pointer with 11:15 remaining to make it 50-41, but Charlotte reeled off six straight to stretch the 49er lead to The Lady Indians again made it a single-digit game when senior Rudy Sims sank a basket at the 4-minute mark to cut the Charlotte lead to Following Sims basket, ASU had a chance to cut the lead further, but Davie could not connect on a layup, and Charlotte answered on the offensive end with a bucket to extend the lead to 68-57, and the Lady Indians could not make another push down the stretch. We came out really flat in the second half, and were on the brink of getting blown out, but the players hung tough and kept it within reach, Boyer said. We chipped away and actually had a shot just after the four-minute mark to put some real pressure on them. We tell our players that when you are on the road against good teams, you have to be flawless, and at that stage of the game you have to make every shot, get every rebound, and take care of the ball, and we weren t quite tough enough to make those plays. Sophomore Caroline Starr led ASU with 14 points, followed by Sims with 12 and freshman Lyndsay Schlup with 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in her Lady Indian debut. I was really proud of Lyndsay in her first start, said Boyer. There is no question that she gave us a huge spark early on with her offensive rebounding. She kept flying to the ball, and that is a real positive to see her do that. Davie added nine points to the Lady Indian totals, Ali Carter and Ebonie Jefferson added six each, Ashley Anderson finished with five points, and Veronica Smith closed out the ASU scoring with three points. Sabrina Gregory led Charlotte with 22 points and eight rebounds. JONESBORO, Ark. (11/13/06) Guards Ali Carter and Rudy Sims rained three-pointers as each poured in 19 points to lead Arkansas State past Southeastern Conference foe Alabama, 73-56, in women s basketball at ASU s Convocation Center Monday night. Carter, a senior from Pocahontas, hit five-of-nine, while Sims, a senior from Memphis, was three-of-four from beyond the arc. As a team, the Lady Indians hit 47 percent from outside the line (9-of-19) to pace the Tribe. Adrianne Davie added 14 points and six rebounds and freshman Lyndsay Schlup added 10 points to round out ASU s double-figure scoring. I am pleased with our effort tonight, said Head Coach Brian Boyer. We forced them into 15 turnovers in the first half and we only had five. On the rebounding, it was only a one or two-point difference, and we got so many more shots in the first half to build the lead. In the second half, it was a matter of just answering and our players did a good job of that. After trading baskets in the early part of the first half, Arkansas State took a lead following a goal by Schlup at the 12:03 mark. The 6-1 forward from California, Mo., was fouled by Alabama s Harriet Barnes and Schlup hit her free throw to put the Lady Indians up by three. ASU never trailed after that and built the lead by as much as 25 in the second half. The Crimson Tide was able to cut the gap to 10 at the 11:49 mark in the second half when Nathalie Reshard and Talisha Chandler were able to score off a couple missed ASU shots. However, the Lady Indians forced two quick turnovers on the other end of the court and were able to boost the lead back to 19. It seemed like Rudy, Ali and Adrianne seemed to have an answer every time, continued Boyer. When it was 14 and they cut it to 10, we answered. Another time, they cut the lead to 10 and we pushed it back to 16. A lot of that came from the leadership of that group in answering those runs. Just before the half, the execution by Rudy was picture-perfect, and Ali delivered on the three and that was a huge lift momentumwise and points-wise. Rudy made very good decisions and shot the ball well. I thought that was a great, great effort on her part. Kate Mastin led all Alabama scorers with 19 points and Reshard had six boards. Both teams now stand 1-1 overall.

( ) Missouri s Tiffany Brooks and Carlynn Savant scored 22 points each to offset 26 points by Arkansas State s Adrianne Davie, and led the Lady Tigers (3-0) to a victory over the ASU Lady Indians (1-2) Friday night at Mizzou Arena. ASU led 10-9 before Missouri s Alyssa Hollis sank a 3-pointer to ignite a 14-2 run that put the Lady Tigers on top with just over eight minutes to play in the first half. A bucket from Arkansas State s Rudy Sims stopped the Lady Tiger run, and ASU kept pace for the remainder of the half, despite a 12-2 shooting advantage from the free throw line for the Missouri. The Lady Tigers hit 11-of-12 shots from the charity stripe in the first half, while ASU was 2-of-2 as Missouri took a lead into the locker room at the break. Missouri also out-rebounded ASU in the first half, 16 of the boards on the offensive end. We faced a good team on the road, and we didn t handle ourselves very well, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. The rebounding was one thing, but the problem was way before the rebounds ever happened. We were out of position defensively, we didn t rotate effectively defensively, and hence, we were never in a position to rebound. We were so out of position beforehand, that we never had a chance to rebound the missed shots. In the second half, matters got worse for the Lady Indians as Arkansas State managed just six points through the first 16 minutes, and the Missouri lead ballooned to as much as 29 points. For the game, Missouri enjoyed a advantage in shots taken from the floor, out rebounded the Lady Indians 46-33, and forced 21 ASU turnovers. ASU forced 24 turnovers in the game, and held Missouri State s Tahnee Balerio, who came into the game averaging 18.5 points, to just 10 on the night - zero in the first half. Balerio did not score until she hit a three with just over 14 minutes remaining. The victory came on one of the toughest home courts in the country. Missouri State holds a record on its home court since the season. The whole plan was to work on Balerio, to wear her out, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. We have watched Rudy Sims for over three years, and I sometimes still underestimate how good of a defender she is. Rudy was right in her face. Anderson scored the first eight ASU points of the second half to push the Lady Indian lead to double digits, and when Missouri State head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson called for a timeout at the 17:24 mark, ASU had built the lead to Following a bucket by Missouri State s Tiff Terwelp, Arkansas State s Caroline Starr sank a three pointer from the left corner and Davie sank a pair of free throws to stretch the Lady Indian lead to Arkansas State maintained the double-digit lead until the eight-minute mark, when Missouri State began to make a push. ASU got off to a quick start behind a couple of three-pointers by Sims and Starr to put the Lady Indians up, Purdue went into a zone defense and the Lady Indians struggled with the Boilermakers tall front line which held ASU scoreless for nearly 10 minutes in the first half. Purdue led by as much as 14 points before ASU fought back to cut the lead to three, 39-33, at the half. You can t give up runs like that on average teams, continue Boyer. During that stretch we had so many turnovers that turned into points for Purdue. You hear it in football so often, but the defense was on the field too much. Davie came out in the second half and scored two straight layups and a jumper by Sims evened the score at 39-all before ASU hit another four-minute scoring drought which saw Purdue s lead climb to 11. ASU turned on its own defensive efforts to force the Boilermakers to miss some shots. The Lady Indians made the transition baskets, slicing the Purdue lead to five, ASU had to foul late and several Lady Indian three-point tries wouldn t fall, leaving the final score. In basketball, you can never underestimate the first two minutes of the second half, and our players came out and really believed. The run at the end of the first half really gave these players enough life to think we had a shot there. They carried over into the second half to give us a chance, but you have to give it to Purdue, they didn t get rattled. They just seemed to answer. Katie Gearlds led Purdue with 17 points and FahKara Malone and Lindsay Hylton-Wisdom each added 15. Wisdom-Hylton had seven boards. JONESBORO, Ark. ( ) - Three Arkansas State seniors scored in double figures to lead the ASU Lady Indians to an victory over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions Sunday afternoon at the ASU Convocation Center. Adrianne Davie led the Lady Indians with 21 points, followed by Rudy Sims with 15 and Ali Carter with 12 as ASU evened its record at 3-3 on the season. UAPB dropped to 0-5 on the year. In addition to her 21 points, Davie grabbed 11 rebounds to notch her third consecutive double-double. Davie also tied a career high with four blocked shots in the game. Arkansas State jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the early going with Sims finishing the first half with 15 points, to help the Lady Indians build a lead at the break. I thought the start was not very good, said Head Coach Brian Boyer. There are two ways to look at it-the outcome and the performance. It wasn't exactly the performance we wanted, but we got the outcome. ASU quickly expanded the lead to 20 points in the second period as Davie poured in 17 second-half points. The ASU lead reached 30 points when freshman Jazmine Taylor hit a free throw to make with 3:15 remaining. All 13 players on ASU's active roster played, and all scored in the game. In addition to the double figure afternoon from Davie, Sims and Carter, the Lady Indians also got seven points each from Ashley Anderson and Lyndsay Schlup, six points from Jazmine Taylor and five from Caroline Starr. Veronica Smith added four points, Tabitha Christian finished with three points, Kelsey Lock, Melia Pence, and Ebonie Jefferson all added two points, and Brittney Hiles closed out the scoring with a single point. I thought Adrianne, Rudy and Ali looked tired, continued Boyer. But, those are excuses and we've got to get better than that. Come late December and January, we're doing this every weekend. We did a better job the second half of getting the ball to Adrianne but she did a better job of finishing. But, she's a competitor.

( ) - Arkansas State senior Adrianne Davie poured in a career-high 31 points and senior Rudy Sims added 20 to lead the Lady Indians to a win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Thursday night at the ASU Convocation Center. ASU is now 4-3 overall while South Dakota State drops to 4-2. Almost 50 percent of Davie's points came from the charity stripe, as she sank 15-of-17 from the line on the night. Davie also finished the night shooting 8-of-14 from the floor, pulled down eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Adrianne is strong; she catches, finishes and gets to the free throw line, said ASU Head Coach Brian Boyer. When a player like Adrianne can hit 15 of 17 from the free throw line, she's going to have a great night. The Lady Indians held South Dakota State guard Megan Vogel to just four points on the night. Vogel came into the game averaging just over 20 points per game. We're just thrilled with the fact that I think our players really bought into the keys to get this victory, continued Boyer. I know statistically people will look at performances of Adrianne and Rudy that were great offensive performances. But, truly it was a great team effort. We were active and bought into making someone else beat us besides Vogel. They got some open looks but we made someone else shoot the ball and that's what we wanted to do. The Lady Indians never trailed in the game and stretched the lead to double digits at when Davie sank a pair of free throws with 7:42 remaining in the half. A three-pointer by senior guard Ali Carter expanded the ASU lead to at the break as the Lady Indians held the Jackrabbits to 22 percent shooting from the floor in the opening period. Up until about four minutes left in the game, I'm still scared to death of Vogel, Boyer said. This player can flat out score. What shocks me so much is that she didn't take that many attempts, but I give our players credit and they swung to her. But, she was very unselfish. She distributed the ball and made some good decisions, but the bottom line is her teammates have to make the shots and they did not do that tonight. Davie finished the night with 28 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Sims finished with a season high 25 points, five rebounds and a season high four steals. Ashley Anderson also finished in double figures for ASU, netting 10 points on the night. ASU's 90 points were another season-high for the Lady Indians, eclipsing an 87-point effort against Arkansas Pine Bluff Nov. 26. The execution was good to get the lead. From the the six-minute mark to the two-and-a half mark, we really got rattled, but from the two-and-a-half minute mark on, we played like a veteran team and played like a team who s capable of winning a lot of games this year. What started out to look like it was shaping up to be a relatively easy game soon turned into a frantic finish as Oklahoma State sliced away a 15- point ASU lead with 6:46 remaining in the game to two with 1:50 left. However, Sims hit two straight jumpers to keep the Lady Indians ahead and OSU had to foul. Caroline Starr and Ali Carter each hit free throws to secure the win. Oklahoma State struck first with Maria Cordero hitting a layup after both Davie and Sims missed shots. ASU s Ashley Anderson scored on a jumper and the Lady Indians had a quick 6-2 lead. Davie hit seven of her nine shot attempts for 15 points in the first half with Sims grabbing five rebounds. Cordero had 10 at the midway point for the Cowgirls. This is a great win, continued Boyer. This is a pivotal game for us. With the schedule we play, 6-4 is much better than 5-5. This assures us of a winning record in our non-conference schedule. Kelsey Lock added nine points and Caroline Starr had seven for ASU. Cordero ended the night leading OSU with 18 points while Danielle Green had 15, Andrea Riley added 13, and Rashidat Sadiq had 11. Long Gym Dec. 16, 2006 Lafayette, LA LAFAYETTE, La., ( ) - Arkansas State senior guard Rudy Sims recorded the first triple-double in the history of the ASU women's basketball program, sparking the Lady Indians to a overtime victory over the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (8-4, 1-1) Saturday night at Earl K. Long Gym. The game was the Sun Belt Conference opener for ASU, and boosted the Lady Indians to 7-4 overall on the season. Sims finished the night with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, overshadowing the fifth double-double of the season by senior center Adrianne Davie, who finished the game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Sims' effort was even more remarkable considering she started the game 0-for-8 from the floor. I have been coaching a lot of years either as an assistant or as a head coach, and that was my first triple-double to see in person, said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. It is a huge accomplishment, especially because of the way it happened. She was struggling from the field, but she didn't quit. She is such a great example for young players. When her shot wasn't falling, she found another way. She got double figure rebounds and double figure assists, and then all of a sudden the shots start falling. The Lady Indians rallied from a five-point deficit in the final five minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime. Davie hit a short jumper with 1:51 to play in regulation to pull the Lady Indians within a point a 50-49, and sophomore guard Caroline Starr tied the game at with a free throw at the one-minute mark. Arkansas State had an opportunity to win the game in regulation, but Sims' driving shot in the lane with six seconds remaining was short of the mark. Arkansas State dominated the overtime period, scoring the first nine point to take a lead. Sims' steal, layup and free throw with 3:34 to play ignited the ASU run, and was followed by six straight points from Davie, whose free throw with 1:02 remaining gave ASU its biggest lead of the night at nine points. Louisiana-Lafayette's Sonora Edwards trimmed the Lady Indian lead to with a jumper at the 52-second mark, but Starr responded with a pair of free throws five seconds later to boost the lead back to nine points and put the game away. In the first half, the Lady Indians could not find a rhythm and trailed at the break. Arkansas State turned the ball over 15 times in the opening frame, but stayed in striking distance thanks to 13 first-half points from Davie. The Lady Indians suffered a season-high 28 turnovers in the game, but turned the ball over just once in the overtime period. I think the key to this whole game was that we got to halftime with it still within reach, said Boyer. We almost felt like that was a victory within itself because of our turnovers and the offensive rebounds they were getting. By the time we got to the last couple of minutes, and then in overtime, both teams were really exhausted, added Boyer. It was just a matter of who was going to hit the shots, and fortunately for us, they were trying to score from the outside, and when you get tired, you just don't have the legs. Fortunately we were able to get it inside and get to the free throw line, and hit some key shots when we had to. In addition to the double-digit efforts from Sims and Davie, the Lady Indians also got five points and eight rebounds from Lyndsay Schlup, nine points from Ali Carter and six from Starr.
