Booster Club Welcome The parent volunteers of the FCHS Booster Club want to welcome the new and returning families of the boys playing soccer for Fort Collins High School. This packet is designed to inform and educate families about the activities of the FCHS soccer team both on and off the field. Please hang on to this document since it will be a good reference for the season. We encourage all players/families to visit collinssoccer.weebly.com for current schedule information and team updates. Additionally, please complete the player/parent information form on this website. The information will be used to notify players/families of changes in any game or practice schedule and to remind the team of upcoming events. The purpose of the Booster Club is to organize events to support our boys. Although the soccer program gets money from the FCHS athletic department, these funds do not cover all of the costs of the program. Funding from the school covers the cost of referees, bus (and driver) and any field maintenance fees. Working closely with Coach Stephens, the Booster Club helps to cover the under-funded items. Assistant coaches, managers, game ball boys and equipment such as balls, cones, pennies and practice goals are all funded by money collected by the Booster Club. The decision to have the shorts and socks become the property of the players eliminates trying to recycle this clothing apparel. Jerseys need to be recycled, as do the warm up pants and jackets. Additional fundraising funds are used to replace missing uniform items and help pay for new uniforms (every 3-5 years). When you check out at the team parent meeting, the receipt will break down all the required and optional fees. We recognize that the required fees do not always fall within a family s budget, and we do not want to economically exclude any player. There are mandatory team fundraisers and optional individual fundraisers to help offset the cost of equipment. We would love to have all parents participate with the Booster Club. Our meetings are focused and respectful of the volunteer status of the members. Currently, we have a need for around eight booster club members, so that no one person is stuck with too many tasks. We encourage working together and forming smaller groups to tackle the tasks we set out to accomplish. All of us on the Booster Club are volunteering our time for our boys and know that the effort pays large dividends in improving their soccer experience. The good news is we have fun in the process. 2

Coach s Statement FCHS Boys Soccer Fall 2013 Head Coach: Asst Coaches: Priorities: Justin Stephens jstephen@psdschools.org (W) (C) Jason Powell - JV Tim Heist JV Chris Tholl C Family School Soccer Studies: Grades will be checked a minimum of once a week. If a player has 2 or more failing grades, they are automatically ineligible for the next week of play (NO EXCEPTIONS). If a player finds he is ineligible for matches, he will be expected to bring homework or study materials to practice instead of cleats and shorts. Excused Absences: Excused absences from games and practices are allowed if players are having difficulties in school. The absences will not count against a player in any way. (Failing classes will have a bearing against players. So, it s better to keep on top of grades before it becomes a problem). Drugs & Alcohol: Drug & alcohol use will not be tolerated at any time during, not only, the season but also the entire year. Poudre School District (PSD) has outlined the punishments for violations of the Drug & Alcohol policy. For more information on the exact suspensions, see the coaches or contact the athletic office for a brochure. After a suspension is served, that player will not automatically be allowed to play in games or even return to the team. The coaching staff retains the right to decide when the player may play in games or rejoin the team. 4
Team Rules: All players will be on time to practices and the games. If a player must miss a game or practice, let coach know in ADVANCE. Game suspensions can be issued if players are continually late to games or practices. Tardiness may also negatively impact playing time. Players represent FCHS soccer on the field, on the bus, in the classroom and on campus. As such, they are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner at all times. Failure to comply may result in suspension. Practice Times (non-match days): Varsity: Monday Friday 3:15-5:15 JV: Monday Thursday Saturday 3:15 5:15 pm 8:00 10:00 am Games: Players will arrive 1 hour before the start of any home match. For away games, players must be at the bus at the specified time. The bus will NOT wait for late players and will meet players in the south Fort Collins High School student parking lot. Website: collinssoccer.weebly.com All information on games, schedules, any updates, etc. will be posted on the website. Go to this site to sign up for team s. Lettering: All players will receive participation certificates at the end of the year. Varsity players who play in at least 70% of the games will receive a Varsity Letter. Some exceptions may be made. Equipment: All players will be responsible for their own equipment. Every player will receive a team warm-up, a light and a dark short sleeve jersey, black and gold long sleeve jersey(s) (varsity and JV) and bag. In addition, they will purchase team shorts and socks. Any player failing to turn in equipment or brings in DIRTY equipment will be fined. Normal wear and tear will not be fined. Booster Club/Volunteers: The Booster Club helps support the coaching staff by organizing fundraising events, planning team dinners, away-game meals, etc. The booster club is comprised of the parents of all the players. If you are interested, see the coaches or Booster Club board members for more information on how you can help out. 5
Playing Time: C and JV Everyone Plays The coaching staff will attempt to give JV and C players approximately equal playing time over the course of the season. The expectation is that in some games some players will play more than other players. This is not a guarantee but a specific effort. Varsity No Guaranteed Play Time Varsity playing time will unlikely be equal either during particular games or throughout the season. Playing time is at the sole discretion of the coaching staff and is based on a multitude of factors. I will answer any questions players have about their own playing time, what they need to work on, why they played or did not play a certain position, why they played X number of minutes, etc. I will NOT answer questions about other players i.e. Why does Bob play more than I do? Furthermore, I am happy to speak with parents about playing time as well. However, I feel it is a more effective conversation if the player is also present and the player and I have had a conversation first. Leaving early from away games: School policy dictates that every player must ride back on the bus to the school after away games. Do not plan to travel home with parents/friends/family/etc. Exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and at a minimum must be cleared by the coaches, have a signature by the parents, and have been discussed before the day of the game. Questions or Comments: Coaches are available to answer any questions or concerns by any player or parent. Please don t come with questions or problems before (within 15 minutes of practice, an hour before a game) or during games or practices. We will be more than willing to talk to you any other time. Before taking an issue directly to the principal, I only ask that you first talk to the appropriate person. Typically, if the issue is related to JV, speak with JV coach first. If the issue can t be rectified there, come talk to me, Coach Stephens. If the issue still can t be resolved, then speak with Rob Larson, our Athletic Director. This process solves a lot of problems quicker and more effectively. As is compliant with my open door policy, if you see something related to the game, someone s behavior, or something you don t agree with, talk to me. If you don t make us aware of a problem, we can t fix it. Equipment Replacement Fees: Jersey $60 Warmup Jacket $75 Warmup Pants $40 Bag $40 Training Top $20 Late Turn in $5 per day 6
Fort Collins High School Athletics Mission Statement The mission of Fort Collins High School Athletics is to provide an opportunity for student-athletes to excel at the highest level academically, on the playing field, and in life. All of our athletic programs foster an environment where character, integrity, responsibility, and discipline are equal and integral parts. Our tradition of excellence truly makes Fort Collins High School Home of the Champions. Among the objectives of the athletics department are the following: To develop strong leadership skills student-athletes can apply in all areas of life. To create an environment where student-athletes feel a strong sense of support and camaraderie. To help student-athletes build relationships with both teammates and coaches. To emphasize communication between players and coaches and to teach the importance of communication in all areas of life. To mentor students during their journey to responsible citizenship while portraying a positive image of our school and our community. To field disciplined and competitive teams seeking superior athletic performance within established rules and ethical conduct. To promote participation and pride from the student body, faculty, staff, and community members. 7
Match Schedule Fort Collins High School, Boys C/JV/Varsity Soccer 2013 NOTE: The schedule is subject to change, and in fact is likely to change. Please consult collinssoccer.weebly.com for up-to-date schedule information. Away Game Bus Schedule For away game bus release, pick up and return times, please consult collinssoccer.weebly.com. Soccer Awards Night After the season ends we will recognize the coaches, managers, and players with a post-season awards celebration. The senior boys will receive special recognition. The date and place are yet to be determined. 8
Team Dinners Team dinners are held the evening before regular season games with our cross town rivals Poudre, Rocky and Fossil. It gives the coaches, managers and players an opportunity to eat together in a fun and relaxed environment. The dinners are a great opportunity to build team spirit. Three team dinners are held per year, but if our boys make the playoffs, we may schedule additional meals. The dinners are hosted at the home of a team member and are usually a potluck meal. The coordinator helps to make sure all the spots are filled, hopefully at the kickoff meeting. Both JV and Varsity players, coaches, and managers attend the dinners. (As these are designed to increase team bonding, parents generally don t attend.) The dinners are held immediately after practice and team members are responsible for their own transportation (both to and from the dinners). Since there are approximately 46 boys on the combined squads and 4 coaches we ask that the food you bring will feed 12 (don t forget we are serving teenage boys). This year the dinners will be: Friday 08/30 Location to be determined Monday 09/9 Location to be determined Monday 09/23 Location to be determined Monday 10/14 Location to be determined Please sign up to help before leaving the kickoff meeting. 9
Before you leave 1. Sign up for team dinners. 2. Check out the scarves at the merchandise table. (You pay for these separately, at the merchandise table. 3. Pick up socks and shorts - for freshman or new players or new to varsity. These are property of the players, not turned in at the end of the season. If you don t need new shorts or socks, you are not obligated to buy them this year. 4. Proceed to the checkout table: Pay for shorts, socks, and optionally, away-game meals. After you leave 1. If you haven t already done so, go to collinssoccer.weebly.com and complete the player/parent contact information form. 10
