DAYTON The Rams return to the Ryan Center for their final home game of the season against Dayton on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, URI will hold a brief ceremony to honor its two graduating seniors - Caitlin Kearns and Megan Shoniker. Rhode Island, which is 4-15 in the all-time series with Dayton, dropped a decision to the Flyers last season at UD Arena. In that game, Anisha Wilson came off the bench and scored a career and game-high 18 points as she connected on 7-of-16 shots from the field. Ashley Rivera and Megan Shoniker also chipped in with 10 points apiece while Lindsay Harris pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. SCOUTING THE FLYERS Dayton enters the game with a (7-5) record and will look to bounce back after dropping back-to-back games at Charlotte (73-52) and Temple (76-52). Prior that, the Flyers had won six of their last seven games with the lone loss coming to Xavier in overtime. UD is currently shooting 41.5-percent from the field - including a 37.2-percent clip from three-point territory - while also averaging 44.1 rebounds per game. Dayton is on the positive side of a 7.4 scoring margin and a 7.3 rebounding margin. Offensively, Justine Raterman (16.0) and Kristin Daugherty (12.2) are both averaging double figures for the Flyers. Raterman is also the team s top rebounder with 7.3 boards per game. Casey Nance is behind her with 4.9 rpg and a team-best 33 blocks. Patrice Lalor, meanwhile, leads the way with 86 assists and 41 steals. Cathy Inglese vs. DAYTON Second-year head coach Cathy Inglese has turned in an 0-1 all-time mark against Dayton. In her first and only matchup against the Musketeers, URI was defeated last season at UD Arena. SHONIKER SETS NEW SCHOOL RECORD FOR FREE THROWS Senior guard Megan Shoniker connected on 18-of-19 attempts from the free throw line in URI s victory over Saint Louis on Feb. 13. Her 18 makes from the charity stripe established a new Rhode Island record, surpassing the previous top performance (14) which was set by Denise King in With 19 trips to the line, Shoniker also took over the top spot on the single-game attempts list - which was 17, set in 1993 and matched in GASPAR HAS 4TH-BEST CAREER SHOOTING PERCENTAGE Junior Lara Gaspar currently ranks fourth all-time at URI with a 48.1 career shooting percentage. Gaspar who is 48.1% from the field so far this season shot 43.8% as a freshman and 50.0% as a sophomore. Three Keaney Road, Suite Kingston, RI Cloutier Honored Among Canadian NAT L Team Athletes After helping to lead her Canadian national team to three straight gold medals, Rhode Island freshman forward Emilie Cloutier was named best teammate at the national level in Canada. The award - which is up for grabs for all Canadian athletes - honors a player for his or her teamwork and leadership both in and out of competition. To eligible, one must compete at the national level. Playing for the Cégep de Sainte-Foy Dynamiques, Cloutier helped lead her team to three straight national championships - a feat that was only accomplished once before, some 40 years ago. At that time, however, there were fewer teams competing than there are today. SHONIKER AMONG THE NATION S BEST Through games of Feb. 20, senior Megan Shoniker ranked 17th in the country in points per game (19.5). She was one of just four Atlantic 10 players in the top-100 as Richmond s Brittani Shells (19.5), La Salle s Ashley Gale (18.8) and Xavier s Amber Harris (18.4), were ranked 18th, 23rd and 31st, respectively. SHONIKER - CAREER RECORDS WATCH A mainstay in the Rams lineup throughout her career, senior captain Megan Shoniker continues to leave her mark on Rhode Island women s basketball. The Rochester native has the potential to end her career in the top-10 of at least seven different career categories. Additionally, she was the only A-10 player to rank in the top-9 in both scoring (19.5 ppg, t-1st) and assists (3.6 apg, 7th). SHONIKER NETS 1,000TH CAREER POINT AT SETON HALL Senior guard Megan Shoniker tallied her 1,000th career point at Seton Hall on Dec. 29. The milestone basket came on her first make of the game - a three-pointer that gave URI a 7-4 advantage after three minutes of play. The Rhody captain finished with a game-high 21 points while becoming just the 19th URI women s basketball player to join the 1,000-point club - and the first since Safi Mojidi did so in BATTLE OF THE BOARDS Rhode Island has held the rebounding advantage in 14-of-26 games so far this season. The Rams recorded 50-or-more boards in games against Colgate (50), Seton Hall (51) and New Hampshire (57). Rhody s performance at UNH marked the program s best rebounding total since Dec. 28, when URI grabbed a school-record 67 boards against Colorado State. (10 x 3) = MORE THAN AN EXTRA GAME S WORTH OF OT With five overtime games so far this season, the Rams have played an extra 50 minutes of basketball. Rhody logged an extra 10 minutes in double OT games against Brown (Dec. 8), Seton Hall (Dec. 29) and Dartmouth (Jan. 4) while three extra periods (15 minutes) were necessary to decide things at New Hampshire (Jan. 1). URI s only single-ot game - resulting in five extra minutes of play - was at home against American International on Dec. 19. In these games, the Rams have turned in a 2-3 record. RHODY TIES NCAA RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE OVERTIME GAMES URI s double-overtime game against Dartmouth marked the Rams fourth consecutive overtime contest - which ties the NCAA Division I record, set by Wisconsin in With five OT games so far this season, Rhody is just two overtimes away from matching the NCAA record for OT games in a season (also set by Wisconsin in 1999). The Rams have now played 50 extra minutes over five OT games so far this season. SHONIKER FOR THREE Megan Shoniker has netted at least one 3-pointer in 38 of her last 39 games played, dating back to the Atlantic 10 opener at Massachusetts. Over that span, the senior guard has combined for 64 makes from long range, including 25 games with multiple threepointers. Her lone outing without a trey over those 36 games came in URI s loss to Oklahoma State on Nov. 26, WALLACK S 18 REBOUNDS ARE BEST BY A RHODY FRESHMAN IN OVER TWO DECADES Freshman Kerry Wallack pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds in URI s win at Fairfield. It marked the best rebounding performance by a Rhody rookie since Michele Washington recorded 20 on Dec. 29, Washington - who finished her career as Rhode Island s all-time leader in both points (1,943) and rebounds (1,187) - is the only former Ram to have her jersey retired. URI s two home games in that span were the season opener vs. Colgate and a December 1 matchup with Boston University. SHONIKER NAMED ATLANTIC 10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK ON FEB. 14 Senior guard Megan Shoniker picked up her first-ever Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award on Monday, Jan. 14. The honor followed a 1-1 week for URI where the Rochester, N.Y. native averaged 27.5 points and shot 48 percent (15-of-31) from the field. She also connected at an 88-percent (22-of-25) clip from the foul line. Following her team-leading 20-point performance at La Salle on Wednesday, Shoniker helped Rhody snap its 21-game Atlantic 10 slide with a career-best 35 points in Sunday s win over Saint Louis. She also set a new school record against the Billikens, connecting on 18-of-19 (.947) attempts from the free throw line. Shoniker has now recorded a Conference-best three 30+ point games and has scored 20-or-more points on 21 separate occasions this season. ATLANTIC 10 HONOR ROLL Megan Shoniker has been named to the Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll 11 times this season (Nov. 15, Nov. 22, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, Dec. 20, Jan. 3, Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 25, Feb. 7 and Feb. 21). She has now earned the honor 19 times throughout her career as she landed a spot

3 on the honor roll four times as a junior, twice as a sophomore and three times as a freshman. Lara Gaspar has also earned the honor twice this year - on Dec. 13 and Jan. 31. LAST TIME OUT - Rams Drop Heartbreaker at UMASS Megan Shoniker scored a game-high 28 points as the Rams were edged by Massachusetts, Lara Gaspar (12) and Ashley Rivera (10) also scored in double figures for Rhody while senior Caitlin Kearns and sophomore Ajanae Boone each grabbed a team-high best six rebounds. Shoniker also led the Rams with six assists on the afternoon. It marks the 22nd time this season that she leads the team in assists and the 11th time she scores 20-or-more points. As a team, the Rams shot 46.3-percent (25-of-54) from the field while holding UMass to a 35.1-percent (20-of-57) showing. However, the Minutewomen connected on 31-of-34 (91.2%) attempts from the foul like - including a perfect 21-for-21 performance in the second half - while Rhody was just 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the line. UMass also held a slight edge in rebounding. Overall, the game featured 11 lead changes and six ties. COMEBACK KIDS The Rams rallied back from double-digit deficits in their road wins at both NJIT and Fairfield. At NJIT, Rhody trailed by 14 (33-19) with four minutes remaining in the first half but held the Highlanders to 18.5-percent shooting (5-of-27) in the second frame to take the game, Two days later at Fairfield, URI found itself down by 10 (33-23) with 15 minutes to go in the game but again rallied back for the win. Last year, Rhode Island won just one of the 19 games where it trailed at halftime and never came back to post a win after trailing by double digits. OTHER RHODY RALLIES Rhody Island came back from a 13-point deficit at Seton Hall, closing out the game with a 16-3 run over the final six minutes to even the score at before eventually falling to the Pirates in double overtime. The next time out at New Hampshire, URI rallied back from a 10-point deficit to tie things up at with 7:22 remaining before falling behind by six (59-53) with just 1:20 left on the clock. Once again, the Rams clawed their way back with a 7-1 push to close out regulation to make it a game before eventually falling in triple overtime. SHONIKER NAMED TEAM CAPTAIN The season marks senior Megan Shoniker s second season as team captain for the Rams. The Rochester, N.Y. native led Rhode Island in scoring as both a sophomore (10.4 ppg) and junior (12.3 ppg) and has appeared in all but two games since her freshman season. UP NEXT FOR THE RAMS After hosting Dayton on Senior Night, the Rams will hit the road for their regular-season finale at Duquesne. Rhode Island, which is in the all-time series with Duquesne, dropped a decision to the Dukes last season at The Ryan Center. In that game, Megan Shoniker recorded her first career double-double with a game-best 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Lara Gaspar also scored in double figures as she finished with 14 on the night. Shoniker also added five assists - as did Anisha Wilson - while Caitlin Kearns recorded three blocks and five rebounds. Despite coming up short, the Rams held Duquesne to a 30.2-percent performance from the field (19-of-63) - which marked a season low for the Dukes, who entered the contest with Atlantic 10 s third-best offense (67.2 ppg). Rhode Island also blocked a season-best nine shots in the loss. URI TO HOST 2012 NCAA REGIONALS The University of Rhode Island has been named one of four regional sites for the 2012 NCAA Women s Basketball Championship.
