I chose KU because: I loved the girls and everyone seemed to love playing soccer and that is exactly what I wanted to do in my career. Favorite male soccer player: David Beckham Favorite female soccer player: Kristine Lilly If you could do any goal celebration what would it be? A backflip. Closest friend on another team: Ryann Werner (Washburn University) Favorite actor: Jim Carrey Favorite actress: Julia Roberts Favorite TV show: Friends and The OC Favorite movie: Ghost First childhood soccer memory: Playing on a boys team and picking the weeds while all the boys played (I was four years old). Greatest college soccer memory: Beating Missouri on their field, then doing the Rock Chalk chant in the middle of the field. Favorite place to eat in Lawrence: Jefferson s Wings on Wednesday s Not many people know this about me: I m a neat freak. Outside of soccer, my greatest talent is: Horseback riding After college I plan on: Attending nursing school, then travel. Favorite song in my ipod: Sara Beth by Rascal Flatts 2005 (Junior): Academic All-Big 12 First Team Selection. Started KU s first eight matches and 15 total while also seeing time off the bench against Oklahoma State on Oct. 7. Second half goal tied the match against #25 Wisconsin (8/28). Played all 90 minutes in seven matches (Sophomore): Played in 23 contests, starting 21. Named to the All-Tournament Team at the Select Kickoff Classic for her strong defensive play. Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. Recorded five shots on the year (Freshman): Appeared in 21 contests, starting nine matches. Recorded the first goal of her career, the gamewinner, in a 3-0 victory over UW-Milwaukee (9/5). Wichita Northwest HS: A four-year soccer letterwinner at Wichita Northwest. Nikki Alvarez #17 Senior 5-3 Defender Wichita, Kan. (Wichita Northwest) Club: KCFC Revolution Coached by Bobby Bribiesca. Selected captain for two seasons and helped lead Wichita Northwest to a runner-up finish in the 2002 state championships. Named all-city two years. Four-year selection to the all-region team. Named all-state three years. Led the state of Kansas in points scored as a senior. Selected as a University of Kansas Honors Scholar. Four-year member of the Principal s Honor Roll. Club: Played for the KCFC Revolution where she was coached by Gags Pritchard. Helped lead the Revolution to the KSYSA State Championship twice. Placed third at the USYSA Regional Championships. Scored the game-tying and game-winning goal for the Revolution at the regional quarterfinals vs. Illinois, helping the team to the semifinals. ODP: Nine-year member of the Kansas ODP. Selected three times to the Regional Pool Team. Was a two-year co-captain. Three-year recipient of the Spirit Award. Personal: Born Nicole Renea Alvarez on Feb. 9, 1985, in Wichita, Kan. Parents are Rick and Lorrie Alvarez. Has played soccer in Costa Rica and Spain. Majoring in pre-nursing. I chose KU because: I loved the campus and the team was so close and they got along really well. It also wasn't that far from home. Favorite male soccer player: Ronaldinho Team other then the USA you cheered for during the World Cup: Brazil If you could do any goal celebration what would it be? Run around with my hands in the air. Pregame ritual: Put two braids in my hair and kick the ball around with Afton. Favorite actor: George Clooney Favorite TV show: Grey s Anatomy Favorite movie: The Sixth Sense First childhood soccer memory: Scoring one of my first goals on my dads team. Greatest college soccer memory: Winning the Big 12 in Favorite place to eat in Lawrence: Jade or First Watch Favorite vacation spot: California Not many people know this about me: I m scared of llamas. Outside of soccer, my greatest talent is: Singing and dancing in the car and playing darts. After college I plan on: Becoming an elementary school teacher in Colorado for the grades 1st through 3rd, and getting married and start a family 2005 (Sophomore): Saw action in six matches off the bench. Started second half against ISU and played 20 minutes. Played a season-high 28 minutes at Texas Tech (10/14) (Freshman): Appeared in nine matches as a reserve. Recorded two shots on the season. Dakota Ridge HS: Four year starter at Dakota Ridge HS in Littleton, Colo. Named first team all-conference and honorable mention all-state in Selected as second team all-conference and honorable mention all-state in All-conference first team and honorable mention all-state in Honored as Best of the Best Defender by Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post Player to Watch. Helped lead team to 5A State Championship in Team captain during 2003 and Played varsity football in 2002 and 2003 as a placekicker. Received the Student Athlete Award in 2002, 2003 and Kelsey Archuleta #9 Junior 5-5 Defender Littleton, Colo. (Dakota Ridge) Club: Real Colorado Club: Played for Real Colorado. State champions in 2001 and 2003, while being a State Cup finalist in Team ranked seventh nationally in Captain in 2002, 2003 and ODP: Member of Colorado state team in 2001 and Attended ODP regional camp in 2001 and Personal: Born Kelsey Ellen Archuleta on Sept. 29, Parents are Steve and Toby Archuleta. The thing I enjoy the most is all the hard work and fun we put into everything we do. I chose KU because: The team chemistry and the coaches. Favorite actor: Vince Vaughn Favorite actress: Kate Hudson Favorite TV show: Grey s Anatomy Favorite movie: My Girl Favorite place to eat in Lawrence: La Familia If I could switch places with one person for a day it would be: Julian Wright (KU men s basketball sophomore). I always wondered what it s like to be so tall and he has an interesting outlook on life and is a very good person. Favorite vacation spot: Playa del Carmen, Mexico Not many people know this about me: I crochet. After college I plan on: Going to nursing school or get into pharmaceutical sales. Favorite song in my ipod: Techno Madonna Like a Prayer 2005 (Freshman): Member of the 2005 All-Big 12 Newcomer Team. Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6. Started all 20 matches of the season. Broke the school record for assists (6) by a freshman. Her corner kick into the box set up KU s first goal against Texas and gave her the school record for assists by a freshman. Had five shots and played 101 minutes at #25 Nebraska on Sept. 30. Tallied her third game-winning goal of the season in KU s 1-0 victory over Baylor in the Big 12 opener. Scored a goal in KU s 4-0 rout of UC Irvine (9/16). Her corner kick set up Missy Geha s game-winning goal at San Diego (9/9). Scored game-winning goal against Arkansas (9/2). First collegiate goal was the game-winner vs. Missouri State on Aug. 31. Blue Springs HS: Three-time all-metro and all-state selection. Selected as the 2003 Missouri Offensive Player of the Year. Named the 2004 Missouri High School Player of the Year. Jessica Bush #7 Sophomore 5-2 Midfielder/Forward Blue Springs, Mo. (Blue Springs) Club: KCFC Dynamos Selected as a NSCAA High School All-American. Named to the all-district, all-conference, all-metro, all-state teams, as well as the Examiner Player of the Year from Earned NSCAA High School All-American honors. Was named Metro Sports Female Athlete of the Year in A three-year member of the National Honor Society. Club: Played with the KCFC Dynamos. I chose KU because: I loved the team from my visit and no other coaches wife in the country can cook a meal like Tiff Francis. Favorite male soccer player: Thierry Henry Favorite female soccer player: Kristine Lilly Team other then the USA you cheered for during the World Cup: Brazil, I love their flair, creativity and passion for the game. If you could do any goal celebration what would it be? A backflip. After college I plan on: Going to law school and becoming a sports agent. Nicole Cauzillo #11 Senior 5-6 Midfielder Northville, Mich. (Northville / WVU) Club: Michigan Hawks 2005 (Junior): 2005 Academic All-Big 12 First Team Served as a co-captain. Started in the midfield for KU s first six matches before missing the rest of the season. Assisted on Jessica Bush s game-winner vs. Arkansas (9/2) (Sophomore): Named to the 2004 All-Big 12 Newcomer Team Started 18 games for the Jayhawks and finished third on the team in scoring with 14 points. Registered her first point of the season, an assist, in a 1-0 win over BYU on Aug. 30. Tallied the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over UW-Milwaukee on Sept. 3. Scored the game-winner in the first half of a 2-0 win over Saint Louis on Sept. 5. Named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week and KUStore.com Crimson & Blue Invitational Offensive MVP after scoring two game-winning goals during the tournament. Named to Soccer Buzz s Elite Team of the Week (Aug. 30-Sept. 5). Tallied a goal and an assist in 3-0 win over Furman on Sept. 9. Scored a goal and registered an assist on Oct. 1 against Texas Tech. Selected to participate in 2005 NCAA Leadership Conference (West Virginia, Freshman): Played in 23 matches for the Mountaineers, starting 22 of the contests. Scored three goals and recorded two assists on the season for a total of eight points. Fourth on the team with 33 shots. Registered one game-winning goal. Northville HS: 2003 Gatorade Player of the Year at Northville High. Helped lead her team to 2002 and 2003 division and district crowns. First team all-conference and all-state honoree in 2002 and A four-year letterwinner in basketball. Set a school record by hitting seven threepointers in one game. Set the school record in the mile and 4 x 8000 during her three seasons on the track team. Club: Eight year member of the Michigan Hawks club team that won six Michigan state championships. Helped lead the Hawks to a national championship in summer of 2004 and was honored with the Golden Boot Award. ODP: Four year member of the 85 regional team. Member of 85 Michigan state team. (Spring Hill) Club: KCFC Alliance Metro Blues 2005 (Junior): One of only two active players named to the All-Big 12 10th Anniversary Team All-Big 12 First Team. Named NSCAA All-Central Region Academic All-Big 12 First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 7 Second Team Soccer Buzz All-Central Region First Team. Started all 20 matches. Scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime in the regular-season finale against Missouri (10/28). Tied a career high with two assists against Oklahoma on Oct. 9. Scored both of KU s goals against #15 Pepperdine (9/11). Assisted on Missy Geha s game-winner at San Diego (9/9). Invited to train with the U.S. Under-21 team. Helped lead FC Indiana to an record during the summer and won the Women's Premier Soccer League championship and the Women's Open Cup national championship; was named to the WPSL All-League Team (Sophomore): Named All-Big 12 First Team and All-Big 12 Tournament Team. I chose KU because: I knew that s where I wanted to be. Favorite male soccer player: Cristiano Ronaldo Favorite female soccer player: Jessica Bush Team other then the USA you cheered for during the World Cup: Portugal Closest friend on another team: Katie Kelly (Marquette) Pregame ritual: Giving Emily Strinden the tape from my cleats so she can stick her earrings to it so she doesn t lose them. Favorite actor: Ben Stiller Favorite actress: Reese Witherspoon Favorite TV show: SpongeBob Squarepants Favorite movie: Dumb and Dumber First childhood soccer memory: When my coach thought it was time for me to move up from two-touch passing to one-touch. It was probably the best day of my life. Greatest college soccer memory: Beating Texas at home last year. Favorite place to eat in Lawrence: Sheridan s Frozen Custard Outside of soccer, my greatest talent is: Being the favorite daughter. Ask my dad and he ll agree that I m pretty good at it. My sister (Amy) on the other hand is just bitter toward me. After college I plan on: Make tons of money, get married and become the world s greatest soccer mom. Missy Geha #16 Sophomore 5-6 Midfielder Overland Park, Kan. (St. Thomas Aquinas) Club: KCFC Dynamos 2005 (Freshman): 2005 All-Big 12 Newcomer Team. Started all 20 matches of the season. Notched her third goal of the season at Texas Tech on Oct. 14. Third on the team with 1,822 minutes played. Played every minute in 18 matches. Tallied the game-winning goal against UC Irvine just 7:06 into the match on Sept. 16. Scored first collegiate goal 3:51 into the match at San Diego (9/9), the game-winner. St. Thomas Aquinas HS: Three-time all-state selection. Selected by Student Sports as one of the top 75 junior soccer players in the United States. Won the Offensive Player of the Year and MVP of her high school team. Named the Kansas Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year in Teammate of Jayhawk sophomore Sara Rogers. Also played tennis. Club: Played for the KCFC Dynamos. State Cup Champs in and Region II Champions. Greatest college soccer memory: Beating Missouri last year. Favorite place to eat in Lawrence: La Familia If I could switch places with one person for a day it would be: Oprah Favorite vacation spot: Ireland Not many people know this about me: I used to drive a car that looked like a soccer ball. After college I plan on: Getting a job (Freshman): Made four starts (UC Irvine, Baylor, at Nebraska, at Iowa State) and saw action in 15 matches total. Played all 110 minutes at #25 Nebraska on Sept. 30. Made her first career start against UC Irvine on Sept. 16. Kristin Graves #19 Sophomore 5-8 Defender/Midfielder Stilwell, Kan. (Blue Valley West) Club: KCFC Dynamos Recorded three shots on the year, two on goal. Blue Valley West HS: Was a four-year starter for Blue Valley West. Led her high school team to its first ever state championship by leading the team in scoring, including seven goals during the postseason. Garnered all-conference, All-Sun, all-state and allmetro honors during her prep career. Maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Participated in softball, basketball, swimming, track, cross country and volleyball. Club: Played for the KCFC Dynamos. Captain of her club team. ODP: Alternate for Region II team. Spent six years in the Kansas ODP program. Was a captain for three seasons. Personal: Born Kristin Yvonne Graves on July 30, Parents are Deanna and Greg Graves. Has two siblings, Jessica and Greg Jr. Nicknamed Gravie. Majoring in civil engineering. I chose KU because: It just felt right. It s away from home but now I have my own family here with the team. The girls are awesome and the coaching staff is great. I just knew it was the place for me. Favorite male soccer player: Clint Dempsey Favorite female soccer player: Kristine Lilly Team other then the USA you cheered for during the World Cup: England Favorite Actress Julia Roberts Favorite TV show? Desperate Housewives Closest friend on another team: Shannon Smyth, Louisville and Carly Williams, South Alabama Pregame ritual: I tend to keep to myself and listen to music. I am superstitious so I listen to the same song before every game. First childhood soccer memory: Playing rec soccer at the local soccer park. My mom insisted that I wear a bow in my hair that matched my jersey, it was pretty embarrassing. Greatest college soccer memory: Beating Texas last year. Favorite place to eat in Lawrence: There are so many good places to eat but most of the time I find myself at Chipotle with the "Inseparable Six." If I could switch places with one person for a day it would be: Victoria Beckham Not many people know this about me: Most people know that I am a terrible singer and that I m even worse at Geography. But some people may not know that I am left-handed but I do everything right-handed except write (Freshman): Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Oct. 25. Recorded a career-high eight saves in 1-0 loss at Colorado on Oct. 16. Started the match and combined with Erin Ferguson to shut out Texas Tech on Oct. 14. Won her first three starts in Big 12 play against Oklahoma State, #21 Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Shutout out #21 Oklahoma on Oct. 7. Started non-conference matches against UC Irvine and Purdue.
