Friday night saw the team go on an 11-0 run in the third quarter and eventually defeat Memphis by 8. Shanity James is on the scoring roll of her life, scoring 24 points on Tuesday at Oral Roberts and following that with a 22-point showing against Memphis. James is the second-leading scorer in the Sun Belt, averaging 18.3 points per game. Alexius Dawn got her 3-point stroke going against the Tigers, sinking three 3-pointers and finishing with a season-high 12 points. Little Rock has been very strong in the third quarter this season, outscoring its opponents by a combined That is the only quarter where the Trojan have an advantage this year. Oklahoma will be looking for revenge on Wednesday as the Trojans defeated the Sooners in Little Rock last year. Last season s win was Little Rock s first ever against Oklahoma. 2-2 NR w-l rank rpi* ppg ppg def ABOUT THE TROJANS Little Rock earned its second straight victory on Friday *rpi based on night, defeating Memphis by a tally after an 11-0 third-quarter run sparked the Trojans. Little Rock went from trailing by 4 points to leading by 7, and the team held on in the fourth quarter for the win. Shanity James nearly got her second straight double-double with 22 points and 8 rebounds, and the Trojans forced 19 Tiger turnovers that resulted in 20 points. The Trojans are riding a huge wave of success over the last decade, making the national postseason for seven of the last eight seasons including four NCAA Tournament berths and three WNIT trips. Little Rock was picked third in the Sun Belt s preseason coaches poll and received two first-place votes. 4 THE SERIES AGAINST OKLAHOMA The Trojans lifelong season against Oklahoma is greatly slanted in favor of the Sooners. Oklahoma won the first four meetings between the teams dating back to 1988, but last year marked a huge victory for the Trojans at the Jack Stephens Center. Little Rock claimed a win on its home court thanks to 16 points from Taylor Gault and 12 each from Sharde Collins and Alexius Dawn. Little Rock shot 58 percent from the field in that game and sank 12 of its 13 free throws. A WIN AGAINST MEMPHIS WOULD be the team s second consecutive victory over the Sooners be the team s third consecutive victory mark Little Rock s fifth straight win in the state of Oklahoma be Joe Foley s 703rd career win. LITTLE ROCK VS. THE BIG 12 The Trojans have played 15 contests against current Big 12 schools in their history, holding a 4-11 record in those games. Little Rock has two of those three wins against Oklahoma State, whom it holds a 2-3 record against. Little Rock is 1-1 all-time against Kansas State, 0-1 against Baylor, 1-4 against Oklahoma and 0-1 against Texas and Texas Tech. The Trojans have never faced Iowa State, Kansas, TCU or West Virginia. JOE FOLEY VS. RANKED TEAMS Since Joe Foley began coaching at Little Rock before the season, his teams have taken on 11 ranked opponents. In those previous nine games, the Trojans have a 3-8 record, with two victories coming in The Trojans defeated then-no. 24 LSU in the season opener back and topped No. 20/21 Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament s first round Oklahoma comes into Wednesday s game ranked No. 21 in the nation, and the Trojans Sunday opponent, Texas, is No. 6. ANATOMY OF A 11-0 RUN One game after posting a 17-0 run that turned around the game against Oral Roberts, the Trojans had an equally impressive 11-0 run on Friday against Memphis. The run began after Memphis took a lead with 4:12 left in the third quarter. From there, the Trojans got a Shanity James layup, a Sharde Collins jumper, an Alexius Dawn 3-pointer, a Keanna Keys jumper and two free throws from Kira Shepard with 16 seconds left in the quarter. Those 11 points were scored by five different players and turned the score from a 4-point deficit to a 7-point lead. Memphis turned the ball over two times in that span and missed five shots. JAMES SCORING IMPRESSES Senior Shanity James has had the greatest offensive performances of her career in back-to-back games. Following a career-high 24 points at Oral Roberts on Tuesday, James put up 22 points against Memphis on Friday. Before last week, James career high in points was 20 way back in her freshman year against Rice. James 18.3 points per game leads the Trojans, is the second-best scoring average in the Sun Belt and is 69th in the nation as of Monday morning. PINPOINT SHOOTING Shanity James big shooting night on Friday came at a very high percentage of shooting from the 4 field. In the first half, James went 7 of 9 from the floor, and her only two misses were desperation 3-pointers that came at the end of the first quarter and with the shot clock expiring in the second quarter. James did not miss a 2-point shot until the second half. She finished the game shooting 10 of 16 tying her career record for made field goals and shot an impressive 20 of 38 (.526) last week in games at Oral Roberts and against Memphis. THIRD QUARTER CONTROL Thanks largely to the team s 17-0 run against Oral Roberts and its 11-0 run against Memphis, the Trojans are outscoring opponents in the third quarter this season. The third quarter is the only one where Little Rock has an advantage this year. DAWN BACK ON TRACK After a slow start to her year offensively, Alexius Dawn got back on track against Memphis by sinking three 3-pointers. The senior, who finished last season with an incredible 76 made 3-pointers, had just four made 3-pointers in the first three games of the year before Friday night. Dawn shot 3 of 8 from long range against Memphis and scored a seasonhigh 12 points. PLENTY OF HELP Over the last two games, Little Rock has seen multiple players rack up assists to contribute to scoring. Against Memphis on Friday, Monique Townson and Sharde Collins picked up five assists apiece while Shanity James threw in four. Three days earlier, Townson, Kira Shepard and Alexius Dawn all led the team with five assists. Five different Trojans have at least seven assists this year. TOWNSON MAKING NOISE A little-used guard off the bench last season, thenfreshman Monique Townson played in 103 total minutes in her first year with the team. Through three games with Little Rock as a sophomore, Townson has already seen 111 minutes of action while starting in all three Little Rock games. With her increased role has come increased stats: Townson is averaging 7.5 points per game and is leading the team with 16 assists. She has also put up a.625 shooting percentage from downtown, tops in the Sun Belt as of Monday morning. Also as of Monday, Townson is in the top 10 in the conference in assists, assist-to-turnover ratio and minutes played. SHEPARD TAKES FLIGHT Kira Shepard was the only new player to the team to see action on Friday against Memphis, and she continues to be the team s go-to newcomer. She has 24.5 minutes played per game this year 18 minutes more than the next-closest newcomer, Raeyana DeGray and she has even earned two starts. She has one double-figure scoring game to her name and has averaged 5.5 points per game so far in her Trojan career. ANATOMY OF A 17-0 RUN Oral Roberts Bria Pitts hit a 3-pointer with 6:21 remaining in the third quarter to put the Golden Eagles ahead when the Trojans played at Oral Roberts on Nov. 24. From there, the Trojans took over. What followed points-wise: Keanna Keys jumper, Keys free throw, Shanity James layup, Keys layup, COACH JOE FOLEY Joe Foley, the 2010, 2011 and 2015 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year and 2010 Russell Athletic/WBCA Regional Coach of the Year, has led the Little Rock Women s Basketball program to 20-win seasons eight of the last nine years, outright Sun Belt Conference West Division titles in the final six years the Sun Belt had divisions, post-season appearances in seven of the last eight years including four NCAA berths and Sun Belt Conference Tournament titles in 2011, 2012 and Foley has recorded a (.766) career record and a (.649) record at Little Rock as he begins his 13th season in Foley earned his 700th career victory in the NCAA Tournament s first round in 2015, and he signed a contract extension in April 2015 that will keep him as the Trojans head coach through the season. In his 12 years at Little Rock, Foley has compiled the most overall wins (29) and conference victories (18) in a season while producing the school s first All-Sun Belt Conference selection in Alicia Cash in He also recruited back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in Renee Renz (2006) and Kim Sitzmann (2007). No other Sun Belt Conference school has achieved this feat. Foley also coached the school s first-ever Honorable Mention All-America honoree in Chastity Reed in His Trojan student-athletes have earned 21 All-Conference selections. The campaign may have been the best of Foley s tenure with the Trojans, as the team broke program records for victories in a year and conference victories in a year with 29 and 18, respectively. The Trojans reached the NCAA Tournament defeated No. 11 Texas A&M in the tournament s first round before barely falling to No. 3 Arizona State on their own court. Taylor Gault was named the Sun Belt Tournament s Most Outstanding Player and earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors while Alexius Dawn and Ka Nesheia Cobbins were on the All-Sun Belt Second Team. Little Rock claimed the league regular-season championship outright for the first time in program history and the tournament championship for the third time. Before he started at Little Rock, Foley began his stint at Arkansas Tech as an assistant for the men s basketball program from Foley was elevated to the women s head coaching position before the season. The Golden Suns had six 30-win seasons under Foley and posted 16 consecutive 20-win seasons. Foley guided Arkansas Tech to back-to-back NAIA national championships in 1992 and 1993 and was the NCAA Division II national runner-up in Under Foley, Arkansas Tech also won 14 conference championships, made six appearances in the NCAA Division II tournament and advanced to the Division II Elite Eight twice. Foley earned his bachelor s degree from the University of Central Arkansas in He is married to the former Chris Fields of Alpena, Ark. The couple has two children, C.J. and Miranda.

Those 17 points took the Trojans from a 9-point deficit to an 8-point lead in just four minutes and one second. In that span, Memphis missed five shots, had two turnovers and committed four fouls. The Trojans had no turnovers or fouls in that span. SECOND-HALF EXPLOSION After putting up just 20 points in the entire first half and 7 in the second quarter Little Rock exploded for 31 points in the third quarter and outscored Oral Roberts in the second half to turn an 8-point halftime deficit into a 14-point win. HOME COURT ADVANTAGE Little has had an incredible home-court advantage over the last two seasons, going 13-1 each year for a.929 winning percentage. The Trojans were also 9-0 at home in conference play in , finishing their Sun Belt slate undefeated at home. The team has done this four times in its history now under Joe Foley, going 9-0 in , , and Overall at the Jack Stephens Center, Little Rock is , a winning percentage of.851. The Trojans last lost a home conference game in January 2013, a streak of 24 straight wins. PRATT DOUBLE-DOUBLE Junior forward Kaitlyn Pratt got her season off to a strong start, recording a double-double to top the Trojans in points and rebounds against Tulane on Nov. 13. Pratt had 15 points and 10 rebounds, earning the third double-double of her career. She had a double-double at Memphis last season with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and her first career double-double came against Incarnate Word in 2013 with a 16-point, 15-rebounds effort. Pratt used an impressive 6-of-10 shooting performance from the field and a 3-of-3 performance from the free-throw line to help her reach those 15 points at Tulane. NEWCOMER PLAYING TIME Of the Trojans seven new players for , five have seen the court in the first two games of the year. Kira Shepard has seen the most total minutes with 98, and Ronjanae DeGray has the next-most with 14. Shepard has the most points per game of the newcomers, picking up 5.5 per game. Ronjanae DeGray has also scored, averaging 1.3 points per game. Amber Landing and Kiara Scott have yet to see the floor. 700 CLUB Little Rock coach Joe Foley had a historic night against Texas A&M in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament, earning his 700th victory as a coach. Foley is now one of just 11 active women s basketball coaches in the country across all three NCAA divisions to have earned 700 wins in his or her career and one of just eight currently in Division I. Foley earned more than half of those victories at Arkansas Tech, and he has 244 with the Trojans. SUN BELT PRESEASON HONORS Little Rock was selected to finish third in the league by the Sun Belt Conference coaches when the league announced its preseason poll in late October. The Trojans earned two first-place votes despite finishing third overall. On the individual side, Alexius Dawn was named Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team and Shanity James was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team. Dawn was all-sun Belt Second Team last year, while James has never earned a league season-ending award before. DAWN OF A NEW SEASON Little Rock senior Alexius Dawn enters her final year with the Trojans after making an incredible splash in her first year. Dawn drained 76 3-pointers last season, the second-most in a single year in Trojan history. She also broke the Sun Belt Tournament record with 15 3-pointers over three games. She was named to the All-Tournament Team, All-Sun Belt Second Team and finished with a 3-point percentage of.364. She was second on the Little Rock roster in steals and assists. CHALLENGING SCHEDULE AHEAD The non-conference slate for Little Rock may be among the most challenging in the nation. Little Rock is set to play four teams from major conferences: LSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Texas. Three of those four teams are ranked in the top 25, and both Texas schools are currently in the top 15. Of the Trojans nine non-conference opponents, five made the NCAA Tournament in while two more reached the Women s NIT. The nine opponents won 58 percent of their games last year. FOLEY S SUN BELT GREATNESS In his 12 completed years at Little Rock with continued excellence, Joe Foley is climbing the rankings of the best coaches in Sun Belt Conference history. Foley now has 140 Sun Belt victories, the second-most in league history. The only other coach ahead of Foley for Sun Belt wins is Arkansas State s Brian Boyer with 153 and counting. Boyer, though, has had four extra years to pile up those 13 extra wins. Foley is averaging 11.7 league wins per year while Boyer has only 9.6. CAREER NUMBERS WATCH Against Memphis: Shanity James moved up to sole possession of sixth all-time in Trojan history with her 73rd career block. Sharde Collins picked her 50th assist.
