1 Backhand Throw Purpose: The most common throw. Used to maintain possession and to move the disc with speed and accuracy. 1. Peace grip; thumb on top, pointer on rim 2. Stand sideways 3. 2 Forehand Throw Purpose: Used to maintain possession and move the disc when being guarded closely or when the backhand is not the best option. 1. Peace grip; thumb on top, midfinger under rim 2. Face target, elbow on hip 3. Outer rim lowered 4. Power wrist snap, finger points to target Possess the disc Create open scoring attempts Transition from D to O Restart play Curve: Outside In/Inside Out Thumber Hammer Blade 1 Basic Grip 3 Forehand Grip To Target Bend Wrist Here Disc at a 45 degree angle with a slight bend at the wrist. Disc should not be parallel to the ground. Release Disc Here 4 2 Power Grip Forehand Throw
3 Clap Catch Purpose: To secure a thrown disc. The clap catch works best when the disc is approaching the receiver straight away and at torso-level. 1. Face disc 2. Spread fingers, open arms 3. Clap to catch 4. Grip to throw Maintain possession Score a goal Intercept Jump Layout Slide 1 2 3
4 C Catch Purpose: To secure a thrown disc and quickly transition to a throwing-grip to make a pass. The C catch works best when a receiver must reach to catch the disc. 1. Reach for disc 2. Create a C with hand(s) 3. Clamp to catch 4. Grip to throw Maintain possession Score a goal Intercept 1 or 2 handed Jump Layout Slide Handed 2 Handed 3 1 Handed Layout
5 Zone Offense Purpose: To attack and exploit gaps in a zone defense. Similar to soccer, offensive players are in a spread formation. Zone O relies on accurate passes and constant movement to create scoring opportunities. 1. Spread out 2. Exploit gaps 3. Pass and flow 4. 6 Stack Offense Purpose: Players, in line formation, systematically move in and out of line to create backhand and forehand passing lanes for the thrower. 1. Stack 2. Cut 3. Catch or Clear 4. 7 The Force Defense Purpose: A common defense used against the stack offense. This defensive strategy forces the handler to throw in the direction of defenders (force side). 1. Match-up 2. 8 Zone Defense Purpose: To defend against scoring and create turnovers.
