Arizona State, Pepperdine and Kansas join UT in rounding out a four-team field in the event. The Big Orange will open its participation in the tourney at 8 p.m. ET on Friday night against Arizona State with its match slated to begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Kansas vs. Pepperdine (5:30 p.m.). UT will wrap up the event at 3 p.m. on Sunday against Pepperdine, while the Sun Devils and Jayhawks face-off at 12:30 p.m. With the Lady Vol Classic having boasted rugged past opposition such as North Carolina, Stanford, Penn State and Texas A&M, Tennessee has won its home-hosted event on three occasions (2003, 2006 & 2007) while registering a overall record. Last year UT split a pair of 1-0 decisions at the event, falling to No. 13 West Virginia and defeating No. 15 Illinois. The Orange & White have faced both Arizona State and Pepperdine once before, downing ASU, 2-1, back on Oct. 5, 1997 in Tempe, Ariz., while dropping a 2-0 decision to the Waves in Malibu, Calif., last Sept. 12th. Last Saturday night in the 09 season opener, Tennessee utilized two goals from senior forward Mick Imgram and the first career shutout from junior goalkeeper Molly Baird to roll past ETSU, 2-0. For Imgram, the offensive output marked the second two-score contest of her career and the first since Oct. 8, 2006 against Arkansas. The two tallies also equaled her goal-scoring output from the entire 2008 campaign. Sophomores Emily Dowd and Emily Shore each recorded an assist on the match s initial goal at 15:13. Baird, in her first career start replacing the departed Jaimel Johnson, faced just five shots and made three saves while getting tremendous support from her backline in the blanking. The Big Orange have now won nine of the program s 14 all-time seasonopening lidlifters, including two in a row. The Arizona State Sun Devils enter this weekend s tournament fresh off a 2-0 home shutout of UC-Irvine last Saturday night. The match was memorable for ASU not just because of the season-opening win, but also because lightning, rain and high winds caused the contest to be called in the 78th minute of action. The Sun Devils return 13 letterwinners and nine starters from last season s squad for third-year head coach Kevin Boyd. Among those returnees are junior forward Karin Volpe (nine goals, 20 points in 2008) and senior goalkeeper Briana Silvestri (0.77 goals-against-average, 70 saves in 2008). Freshman forward Bianca Doller and junior midfielder Alexandra Elston scored the goals for Arizona State in its opener during the first 25 minutes of play. Taking over in goal for a regular three-year starter is never easy, but junior goalkeeper Molly Baird made it look easy by posting her first career shutout during her initial career start in goal for the Orange & White. Forced to make three tough early saves against ETSU, Baird got a tremendous effort from her backline mates, especially in the second half, as the Bucs managed only five total shots in the match. Impressive Imgram Mick Imgram has set quite a pace for herself by tallying two goals on eight shots during UT s 2-0 season-opening win over ETSU. The occurrence marked the second two-goal game of her career (last on Oct. 8, 2006 versus Arkansas) and the two scores equaled her entire goal-scoring output of the entire 2008 campaign. Opening Night! The Lady Vols have compiled a 9-5 record all time in season openers, playing on the road or at a neutral site six times to kick off the year. Tennessee has won its first match on the schedule five times in the last seven years, and won away from home (at Chattanooga) to open the season last year for the first time since 2001 with a 5-0 drubbing at Chattanooga on Aug. 22nd. This season UT utilized two goals from senior forward Mick Imgram to down ETSU, 2-0.

3 Dowling Becomes a Pro Champion Second-year assistant coach and former Lady Vol All-American Keeley Dowling recently helped lead her Sky Blue FC squad of Women s Professional Soccer (WPS), to the pro league s inaugural title with a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Sol on Sat., Aug. 22nd. She helped her team advance through the semifinals with a game-winning goal in the first half off a feed from former North Carolina star Yael Averbuch. Her tally downed St. Louis Athletica and its goalkeeper, current U.S. National Team netminder Hope Solo, 1-0. Dowling has now returned to Tennessee to start her second season as an assistant coach on Angela Kelly s staff. Lady Vols in the Pro Ranks Keeley Dowling of the Sky Blue FC isn t the only former Lady Vol giving the WPS a go. Recent graduate Jaimel Johnson has taken her goalkeeping skills to the Chicago Red Stars, while forward Lyndsey Patterson is currently on the roster of the Los Angeles Sol. In fact, two Lady Vols battled each other on Aug. 22nd for the WPS Championship as Dowling s squad emerged victorious. Looking at the Preseason Polls Tennessee opened the new season ranked at No. 23 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll and was among those teams receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas rankings. Tennessee was joined conference-wise in the preseason ratings by eighthranked Florida and 25th-ranked Auburn in the Top Drawer Soccer poll, while the NSCAA/adidas listed the Gators at No. 10 and Georgia in the No. 18 spot. The Orange and White are set to face four teams that started the season ranked in the NSCAA rating during its 09 schedule in No. 10 Florida, No. 14 West Virginia, No. 18 Georgia and No. 19 Minnesota. In 2007, the Orange and White earned its highest ranking in program history at No. 6 in the NSCAA/adidas poll on Oct. 2 after opening the season and downing No. 12 South Carolina and No. 15 Florida to kick off the SEC slate. Imgram Hauls Preseason Honor Senior Mick Imgram was among select company league-wide when the annual Southeastern Conference Preseason All-SEC Team was released, earning a spot as one of just 11 total selections. The Clifton, Va., native entered the new campaign with 13 career goals and 17 career assists and was UT s third-leading scorer last year. She rated in a tie for seventh all-time in the Lady Vol record book for helpers entering Home Sweet Home The Lady Vols have long made winning on its home pitch a priority. At (.768) all-time at the Regal Soccer Stadium (previously the UT Soccer Complex), Tennessee has averaged over seven wins a campaign in the friendly confines. Last season, the Big Orange were in Knoxville with wins over #15 Illinois, Western Carolina, #15 LSU, Arkansas and Kentucky, and losses to No. 13 West Virginia, Vanderbilt and Georgia Lady Vol Soccer...The Preview Entering her 10th season at the helm of the Big Orange program, Kelly welcomes back 15 returning letter-winners and seven starters from last season s SEC Tournament champion and NCAA entry, while adding eight lauded newcomers. Despite losing five seniors, including the program s all-time leading scorer in All-American forward Kylee Rossi and an uber-experienced All-American goalkeeper in Jaimel Johnson, Kelly returns seven starters to bolster the squad that each saw at least 20 matches worth of action in Included among the returnees are 2009 Preseason All-SEC forward Mick Imgram, experienced juniors in midfielder/forward Julie Edwards and midfielder Tanya Emerson and 2008 Soccer Buzz All-Central Region Freshman and All-SEC Freshman Team midfielder Chelsea Hatcher. That quartet has been looked to as leaders in helping to assimilate the eight rookies into the UT system of play. We re very excited about how far the team has come in a short period of time, Kelly said. The team is jelling well, both on and off the field, and that can only lead to great things this fall. It s always such an exciting time heading into the season opener. I think our freshman class as a whole enters this year with a great opportunity to contribute and have a very strong and immediate impact on our program. Many of our players appear to possess the characteristics and qualities that will help us be a very dynamic team in Staring Upwards in the Eastern Division...In the Preseason Anyway In a preseason poll of the Southeastern Conference s 12 soccer coaching staffs, the Tennessee Lady Vols were picked to finish third in the league s Eastern Division. With 43 tallies the Big Orange trailed only the choice for SEC regular-season champ, the Florida Gators (66 points) in the division race and Georgia (53 points). South Carolina (40 pts.), Vanderbilt (25 pts.) and Kentucky (19 pts.) rounded out the East. The LSU Tigers were selected as the coaches pick to take the SEC Western Division. The gap between the Bayou Bengals and second-place Auburn was just five points. Regal Soccer Stadium (1,004) 1 2 F ETSU (0-1-0) Tennessee (1-0-0) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - In front of a partisan crowd of 1,004 fans on a cooler-than-usual summer Saturday evening at the Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., senior forward Mick Imgram helped back the first career shutout from goalkeeper Molly Baird by tallying a pair of goals as Tennessee (1-0) successfully opened its 2009 campaign with a dominant 2-0 victory over intrastate foe ETSU (0-1). Sophomore forward Emily Dowd and sophomore midfielder Emily Shore each registered an assist on Imgram s initial score of the match-up. The Big Orange out-shot the Bucs by a commanding 21-5 total while dominating the majority of the run of play during the match. Six of UT s shots were on frame, forcing four saves by ETSU netminder Megan Masch. Both squads wasted little time getting their first serious scoring chances on the board as both teams offenses forced a pair of saves in the opening 13 minutes. ETSU midfielder Jessica Huntingdon fired a low shot that was corralled by Baird at the 7:47 mark, while Imgram answered for Tennessee at 8:19 with one of her eight total shots and five shots on frame in the contest. Dribbling briskly up the left side of the pitch just past the 15-minute mark, Dowd lifted a cross into the 18-yard box that Shore managed to get a quick flick on before Imgram settled the ball at her feet.
