WEATHER CANCELLATIONS Remember that if any school in Noble County is closed due to weather conditions, all Extension meetings will be cancelled, also. If schools are closed due to fog in the morning, but it burns off during the day, you may want to call and find out the status of your meeting. SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE High School Seniors planning on going to college need to be thinking about applying for scholarships. Juniors should be thinking ahead, also. Call the Extension Office for scholarship applications. Scholarship applications are due via electronic media into the Extension Office by Jan 15th. *For those going to Purdue HAPPY HOLIDAYS! University, with Internet c a p a b i l i t i e s : Click A c a d e m i c s, t h e n Scholarships. Many are available to qualified applicants. *Noble County Pork Producers (due March 1) *Noble County Extension Homemakers (due April 1) These scholarship forms are available in the Extension Office. *Indiana 4-H Congress Accomplishment Scholarship We urge any 4-H member, grade 10 (at the time of due date) through the year following the final year of 4-H eligibility, to apply for Indiana 4-H Congress Accomplishments scholarships. 4-H ers must submit a 1 page cover letter with a 2 page resume and demographics page via electronic media to the Extension Office by January 15th. CONGRATULATIONS The Area XI Crops, Ento and Forestry Judging contests were held November 14 th at the 4-H Center at the Whitley County Fairgrounds. Central Noble FFA had 1 Senior Ento Judging team. Team members Sierra Gonzalez, Courtney Kitt, and Majenica Geiger placed 4th. Judging as a Ento Jr individual was Griffin Rothenbuhler, placing 5 th. In the Crops Contest, Central Noble s Makenzie Resler judged as an individual. In the Forestry Contest, the Central Noble Jr team of McKenzie Tracy, Amelia Simpson, Hunter Hull and Hunter Donley placed 7th. Noble County 4-H er Faith Resler competed for Busco FFA, and placed 2nd individual. In the Sr Contest, the Central Noble FFA team of Thad Foster, Austin Moore, Jocelyn Winebrenner and Jacob Thompson placed 4th. East Noble FFA Team mates Ben Estridge, Noah Dean, Dylan Resler and Jezlynn Shaw placed 8th. CN Sr individual Lexi Leffers also competed. Thad Foster placed 4th Sr individual. The CN Sr Ento team of Gonzalez, Kitt and Geiger, CN Jr individual Rothenbuhler, Busco Junior Forestry individual Resler, the CN Sr Forestry team of Foster, Moore, Winebrenner and Thompson competed in the State Contest on December 10 th.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 4-H JR LEADER NEWS Re-scheduled Holiday Community Service Sharing Day December 31 st, 10 AM to 2 PM, COC-S. The Jr Leader Handbook Construction meeting will be at January 16, 2017, at 6:30 PM in the Dekko Room. Anyone wanting to be a 4-H Camp Counselor needs to call the Extension Office for an application. They are due by February 1, H LEADER NEWS 4-H Leader Retreat on January 21, 2017, 9 AM to 12 Noon, in the Dekko Room. Brand new, and experienced leaders, are urged to attend this Rev Em Up start to the H year. Morning goodies and lunch will be provided. BEEF/DAIRY STEER WEIGH IN DAY, 2017 ALL BEEF ANIMALS Beef steers, market /commercial/purebred heifers will be weighed and/or ear tagged on February 18, 2017 from 8 AM to 10 AM at the Fairgrounds in Kendallville. Commercial heifers born after the weigh in date, up to and including March 31st, will be ear tagged at the 4-H members home by a member of the 4-H Beef Committee. Dairy steers will be weighed and ear tagged on February 18, 2017 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at the Fairgrounds in Kendallville. Reminder letters will be sent to all members enrolled in these projects in If you will be, or know of anyone who will be, a first time member in 2017, please contact the Extension Office with name and address. NOBLE COUNTY 4-H News 2017 ENROLLMENT H ENROLLMENT ENDS JANUARY 15, 2017 Develop a family profile if you are new, hit the re-enroll button if you have a profile already, fill out all the required information, choose your projects. For those savy computer dudes and dudettes out there, you can go to and enroll in Noble County 4-H, paying your enrollment fees at the same time. This is the preferred way to enroll, but we have paper enrollment forms, also. All the Extension Office at (260) or to request a form by mail. If you have not yet signed up, do it now! With the 4-HOnline enrollment system, you need to be enrolled by January 15. Last year, the system was overloaded near the end, so don t wait until the last minute! The Extension Office is available if you would like to come in and get enrolled. The office staff has been trained on using the 4-H Online system and continue to learn from new updates, and can help you with the process. Also, if you are working from home and get stuck somewhere in the process, call Last year, several families just needed a little help to finish the enrollment process, and Julie, Janeie and Sara were able to help them with the final steps. Remember that you can add or drop projects after your initial enrollment. The important thing is to enroll or re-enroll your 4-H members, and make your payment so that you can be approved for the H year. We appreciate your participation in the Noble County 4-H program, where we continue to build lives and Make the Best Better!

7 4-H SPARK CLUBS ARE COMING SOON! A new concept in 4-H and Youth Development is coming soon to Noble County. 4-H Spark Clubs are workshop style programs that include at least six hours of instructional time, and are designed to develop skills on a particular topic. These workshops are different from our traditional 4-H projects in that they are brief and do not involve a project that is brought to the fair. Plans are in process to offer four of these workshops in Noble County for The Junior Naturalist Workshop will be a very outdoors, hands-on learning experience for youth, providing an educational experience on the beautiful natural resources all around us. A T-Shirt Quilt program will provide instruction in the basics of quilting with the final product being a quilt made from t-shirts that young people can keep for a lifetime! The Photography Workshop will be a very informative and practical workshop on how to take good pictures with cameras and telephones, and experimenting with computer enhancement of photographs. A Sports Nutrition Workshop will help young people make good choices in their diet to help them in the sports they are involved in. These 4-H Spark Club workshops will be open to all young people, and will be a way to help youth learn about this marvelous youth development program we call 4-H! Those already in 4-H will have a small fee for supplies and instructional materials, and non-4-h members will actually become enrolled in 4-H, pay the program fees, and hopefully become involved in a local 4-H club! THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT 4-H YEAR! We cannot say often enough thank you to our 4-H Leaders, 4-H Committee Members and other volunteers who make the 4-H program happen in Noble County. It is only by your efforts that we are able to have such a strong and high quality 4-H program. It is thrilling to know that the 4-H program has had such a great impact on young people s lives that they want to return as adults and be a part of the program.
