If schools are closed due to fog in the morning but it burns off during the day, you should check with your leader and find out the status of your meeting. Butter Braids Fund Raiser Lancaster, Rockcreek, Harrison, Liberty and Jackson Township 4-H Clubs are having a Butter Braid Fund Raiser FAIR DATES July Wells County 4-H Fair Rodeo July 22 August 5 21 Indiana State Fair September Bluffton Free Street Fair Hunter Education A Hunter Education Class will be offered February 29, March 2 & 3, 5:30 9 PM at the 4-H Park. The training is free. Register at -ed.com/programs/indiana Call instructor Mike Pinkerton for details, The dates to order are from now to February 26th. Butter Braids will be picked up by 4-H members on March 9th at the 4-H Park and delivered to buyers. This newsletter is an educational service of the Wells County Cooperative Extension Service. 3 Random Acts of Kindness Day February 17th Let someone go in line in front of you. Do something nice for a friend, family member or perfect stranger. Study with a classmate. It can be simple like saying Good Morning, to picking up trash or welcoming a new neighbor or classmate. For more information, go to: randomactsofkindness.org Shooting Sports Dates The BB Gun & Rifle Safety Club; Archery Club; and Shot Gun Clubs have all set their meeting dates. See the club schedule in this newsletter or visit our web page for a link to their flyers: Mother / Son Dance The Bluffton Parks Department and 4-H will host this event Sunday, February 21, 2 4 PM at the Community Center at the 4-H Park. Cost and details are the same as the Daddy / Daughter Dance. Newsletter Deadline Please submit information you would like placed in the next newsletter by February 22nd. 4-H Scholarship Update Thank you to all of the 4-H members who submitted their 4-H Resume and / or scholarship forms. Applications have been forwarded to the State 4-H Office. State judging results will be sent to you in late February or early March! Ag / Hort Scholarship Offered Wells County Master Gardeners offer a scholarship through the Wells County Foundation for any youth interested in plant agriculture, horticulture or a related field. Go to the Wells County Foundation web page for details. Visit our Web Page: Daddy / Daughter Dance The Bluffton Parks Department and 4-H will host the annual Daddy / Daughter Dance, Sunday, February 21, 6 8 PM at the Community Center at the 4-H Park. This year s theme is Superheroes & Villains. If you don t have a costume, that s fine feel free to wear red, white & blue! The cost is $5 per person. Escorts may be the father or any other significant parental figure. Refreshments, prizes, photos, and entertainment are included. Tickets are available for purchase from the Bluffton City Clerk / Treasurer s Office (City Hall), 128 E Market St.
4 Indiana Poland 4-H Exchange Fifteen (15) youth and five (5) adults will have the opportunity to travel to south central Poland to share and learn about 4-H and the culture. 4-H members will stay with host families, participate in 4-H activities and learn about daily living in Poland. The adults will also participate in 4-H activities and learn about Polish culture and history. The exchange will include approximately two weeks between June 20 and July 5, Trip applications are due March 1, Youth must be a 4-H member, preferable years of age. Cost is $1800 which covers travel, insurance, etc. Local sponsorships and donations are available from 4-H clubs, 4-H Association, and Junior Leader Club. For more information and / or a copy of the application contact Roger Sherer at the Extension Office or go to 4-H Camp 4-H Camp will be held June 6 8 at Camp Mack near Warsaw. Youth in grades 3 6 may attend the event. 4-H Leaders Meetings Thursday, February 11 7 PM Conference Room,. Community Center We will make plans for the 4-H Family Orientation For our Facebook search: Wells County 4-H Feel free to comment, post or like at any time! 4-H Family Orientation Families new to 4-H are invited to attend the New 4-H Family Orientation Night, Sunday, February 28th, 5:30 7:30 PM at the Wells County Community Center at the 4-H Park, Bluffton. Pizza will be served. 4-H Leaders, Jr. Leaders & Extension Staff will be explaining some of the most asked questions and helping you get in the know. Jr. Leaders will also be hosting youth grades K 5 for some recreation and handson activities. Reservations for the event are needed by February 25th. Call Extension Office hours are Monday Friday, 8 AM 4:30 PM. Fair Theme Contest Wells County 4-H would like your ideas and suggestions for our H Fair theme. Since this is Indiana s Bi-Centennial we are seeking ideas that might relate to this idea. Submit ideas by March 11th to the Wells County Extension Office with your name. A special prize will be awarded to the winners.
5 Animal Project News Dairy Beef ID Day The Dairy Beef project will hold their ID Day on Saturday, March 5th, 9 AM 10:30 AM at the 4-H Park Cattle Barn. We will weigh all animals and ID animals with a county tag and an RFID tag in the ear (unless you have one). Details will be mailed to Dairy Beef members. Help spread the word to new members. Animal Forms Due April 1 Beef Steers & Dairy Beef Steers Deadline to complete Animal ID in 4-H Online. May 15 Deadline for Swine, Sheep, Goats, Llamas, Alpacas, Dairy, Dairy Feeder Calf, Horse & Pony, and Beef Breeding Heifers to complete Animal ID in 4-H Online. Rabbit and Poultry will complete a paper form. Forms are due May 15th. Swine Project Workshop Saturday, March AM 12 Noon Multi-Purpose Arena behind Horse Barn Topics: Selecting pigs for 4-H; What does a good pig look like; Getting your pigs started right with proper nutrition, feed and worming. Questions contact Superintendent Kent Ulmer, Attend the 4-H Pork Chop Dinner Outside Restroom Fund Raiser Sunday, March 6 11 AM 2 PM Cost: $ 8 Advanced $10 at the door Wells County Community Center 4-H Park, Bluffton Proceeds to the new Restroom Facility Tickets available at the Wells County Extension Office and from 4-H Leaders. 4-H Association Meetings Future meetings include: February 15, 7 PM and March 14, 7 PM. Plans are progressing for the H Fair and the Rodeo that will be held the day after the Fair. Northeast Indiana 4-H Leaders Clinic March 10, :30 8:30 PM Community Center, 4-H Park Reservations are needed by March 3rd. Dairy Feeder ID Day х April :30 AM Cattle Barn 4-H Park, Bluffton Calves can weigh up to 235 lbs. at the ID Day.
