Please remember that the deadline to enroll and pay dues for new families is February 1, 2019 if you want to take a project to the Fair this year. Returning families should already be enrolled with dues paid by January 1st. 1

2 Idaho Forest Group gives Bonner 4-H a $750 Grant for Archery Backstops Thanks to Rebekah Ham, an Archery Leader with the GNG Club, for getting a nice grant from the Idaho Forest Group for archery target backstops. The Idaho Forest Group donated $750 to Bonner County 4-H, which will allow us to purchase 2 backstops for archery. These backstops are 48 x 48 x 16 in size and are made from a commercial grade foam. They can be used by any and all archery groups by contacting Rebekah with the GNG Club and will also be used for the 2019 Archery Contest. Thank you Idaho Forest Group and thank you Rebekah for going the extra mile for our 4-H youth Bonner County Fair Theme and Dates The theme for the 2019 Bonner County Fair has been released. This year the theme is The Bounty of the County. Get an early start on your Fair Booth ideas and stall decorations. The Bonner County Fair will be held later this year August 21-24, Static Exhibits will enter on August 19th and Livestock will enter on August 20th. The Fair will open to the public on August 21st. Notes From Blair s Desk ALL PROJECT LEADERS: Remember that you can t receive your project books and materials until all of your members and leaders have paid their 4-H dues. We use the dues to purchase the materials and need payment before materials can be distributed. The deadline for final payment is February 1, Please submit your 4-H material requests to Blair in writing anytime after January 14th and allow at least 1 week for your orders to be processed. The Project Requirement Sheet will tell 4-H Leaders and members what must be completed by Fair time and what your exhibit requirements are. Don t wait until the week before Fair to read your project requirements or you will be scrambling to get everything done on time. REMEMBER: All projects require a Record Book All record books must include a story All projects require a demonstration All projects have an exhibit standard/ requirement. 3 2019 Horse CALENDAR: January 8th HLC mtg. 5:30 PM at Extension Office 14th 4-H Leader s Council mtg. at Extension/6:30 PM February 2nd Horse Bowl at the Church of the Nazarene 5th HLC Mtg. 5:30 PM 9th Super Saturday 4-H leader training/orchard Reminders: County Demonstration Day will be April 20th. Plan your Horse Presentations early. Super Saturday on February 9th will include a workshop on Horse Judging and Oral Reasons. Plan to attend. Bonner County Horse Bowl Pre- Registration is Mandatory Horse Bowl is quickly approaching, so be sure to start studying. This year, the Bonner County 4-H Horse Bowl will take place on Saturday, February 2nd at the Church of the Nazarene. Pre-registration is MANDATO- RY this year, as teams will be determined prior to the event. If you do not pre-register, you will not be on a team. Thank you Jerri of Careywood Eager Beavers for continuing to coordinate this event. Arrive by 8:30 for a 9 AM start time. Registration Forms will be ed to horse leaders & posted to the HLC Face Book Page. HORSE LEADER & MEMBER NEWS 4-H Horse Show Planning Committee It takes a team to plan and coordinate the annual three-day 4-H Horse show. If you are interested in helping to plan the H Horse show, please let us know. The planning committee usually meets about 4 times beginning in April to plan everything from equitation classes, the show program/schedule, judges, ring masters, announcers, gate keepers, awards and the food. Parents of 4-H Horse members are welcome to participate, as well as Horse leaders. Please contact Suzanne if you can help plan the 2019 Horse Show. The big change we want to implement this year is a way to give members immediate feedback on their classes, so the show is educational as well as fun. Monty Collison will be our main Judge!!! Bonner County 4-H Horse Show Dates for 2019 The dates for the 2019 Bonner County 4-H Horse Show have been set. The dates will be July 20, 21 & 22. The 22nd will be Horse Gaming. Please mark your calendars! Re-use your Horse ID s I still have many Horse ID s from Some people picked them up after the 2018 Horse Show and put them into their record books, but I have many in my Office. You can reuse them if you are riding the same horse(s) this year. Just pick them up at the Extension Office make any needed updates and re-submit them along with any new horses you may have. 3 The Bonner County 4-H Horse Camp Registration Day has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Extension office. Numbers will be handed out from 8:30 AM until 4 PM. The 2018 Horse Camp will take place at the Fairgrounds from June 17 to 21st. Michele Sadewic and Adrienne Nelson are your Horse Camp Coordinators. They hosted an awesome Horse Camp last year! HORSE I.D. S ARE DUE INTO THE EXTENSION OFFICE NO LATER THAN APRIL 1ST, PLEASE GET THEM IN EARLY!!!

4 LIVESTOCK LEADER & MEMBER NEWS Important Ownership and Weight Requirements for Market Animals Beef must be owned by the 4-H member for at least 150 days, swine for 100 days and sheep and goats for 70 days. Bring your bill of sale to the Spring weigh-in for verification. See the table below for more information: Beef: Ownership by March 23rd for Weigh-in on April 13/no maximum weight at spring weigh-in. Must weigh 1,000+ lbs. finished. Steers weighing more that 1,500 lbs. may sell at the auction, but members will only be paid up to 1,500 lbs. Animal must be born after January 1st of the previous year, as verified by Bill of Sale. Swine: Ownership by May 8th for Weigh-in on May 11th/No maximum spring weight/must weigh 230 lbs. finished. Pigs weighing more than 300 lbs. may sell at auction, (unless receiving a white in Quality) but members are not paid for lbs. in excess of 300. Animals must be born after January 1st of current year as verified by Bill of Sale. Sheep & Goats: Ownership by June 8th for June 15th weigh-in/no max. or min. spring weight /Sheep must weigh 105 lbs. finished and goats must weigh 75 lbs. finished. Animals must be born after January 1st of the current year as verified by the Bill of Sale. Put Livestock Weigh-In Dates on your Calendar Market Beef Weigh-in: April 13, 2019 Market Swine Weigh-in: May 11, 2019 Market Lamb/Goat Weigh-in: June 15, 2019 ** All weigh-ins take place at the Bonner County Fairgrounds ** Market Animal Calendar of Events January th MACL mtg. 6:30 PM at Extension 14th Fair Board Mtg. 5:30 PM Livestock Rules to Remember for Successful Projects If you purchase your 4-H animal from out of state, you must have a health certificate signed by a vet BEFORE transporting the animal across state lines. That means your health certificate must come from the state of purchase. If the seller can not provide this health certificate for you, think twice before making your purchase. This is Idaho State Law and there are steep fines for transporting livestock between states without the required health certificate. This health certificate must be presented with your bill of sale at spring weigh-in, if your animal did come from out-of-state. Your bill of sale must contain buyer/seller signatures and the following: The Date of Purchase check to make sure it includes a date The location/address of purchase including the state The birthdate of your animal * NOTE: This year your bill of sale MUST include the birthdate of your animal. Pay 4-H Dues All returning 4-H families should already be enrolled, as the deadline was December 31st, H Dues must be paid before your membership is Active. Stop by the Office or mail your check to the address 6 above. THANKS! Why must 4-H dues be paid in a timely manner? Several important reasons: 4-H members are not active members of the Program until dues are paid. Your status is held a as a pending member until dues are paid. Club Leaders and Project leaders will not see your child as a member of their club or project until they are active, which means you might miss meetings/activities if your dues are not paid. Your child is not covered by the 4-H insurance program until dues are paid. Therefore you may not attend meetings or participate in a risky activity, like a livestock weigh-in until dues are paid.
