1 NEWSLETTER 24 May 2017 DON T FORGET THAT TOMORROW IS TIME TRIAL AND WE ARE MOVING BACK TO THE WINTER ROUTE WHICH STARTS JUST UP FROM THE HILTON METHODIST CHURCH IN ELIZABETH DRIVE, HILTON GARDENS. Please join us for the Comrades Auction after time trial tomorrow evening. Supper will be on the club. This is always a fun evening and money raised goes to a good cause. The auction will start just after 7pm, please be at OMB by 7pm. Due to atrocious weather conditions last Sunday, the Chairlady s run has been postponed to this coming Sunday, the 28 th of May. Please join us for an easy 10km at Midmar Dam, followed by breakfast. Family and friends are welcome to join us in wishing the Comrades runners well as they prepare to take on the intercity fun run the following weekend.

2 VERY IMPORTANT NOTICES FOR HILTON HARRIER COMRADES RUNNERS: 1. Steph will you the layout of the finish and where to find the HH tent. 2. There will be 5 opportunities to get things on the route: a. Halfway up fields hill b. At Alverstone c. Going up Inchanga, about 1.5 km after halfway d. At Umlaas road e. At the bottom of Polly s 3. If you want to have something ready for you at one of these spots this is what you need to do: put it in a plastic bag, with your name clearly marked on the bag and at which of the above points you want it (e.g. Steph Polly s). Bring these plastic bags to Jog and Grog next week (the 1 st of June) and give it to Lauren/Steph/Jules. They will give it to the relevant people. If you can t bring it to Jog and Grog then please contact Lauren/Steph/Juls before Saturday the 3 rd and make a plan with them. 4. At each of the above points, the club will also provide: Vaseline, ice sachets, oranges and chips. 5. We will let you know who to look out for at these points and how you can spot them easily. Media Release: 2017 Comrades Marathon Road Closures The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has announced that new road closures are in place for Comrades weekend this year, in lieu of the change of finish venue. The annual footrace takes place on Sunday, 4 June Being an up-run, the race starts at 05h30 outside the Durban City Hall and finishes 12 hours later at the Home of the Golden Horse Casino, the Scottsville Racecourse. CMA Race Director, Rowyn James has confirmed the following road closures for Comrades weekend, 3 and 4 June James has asked that residents in

3 the finish venue precinct take heed of the route changes as certain roads in the last 7km of the route will be most affected by the closure. He says, Road closures will take effect from the top of Polly Shortts to CB Downes Road (R103) direction Pietermaritzburg, as well as Gladys Manzi Road (previously Murray Road) and Cleland Road. Blackburrow Road, Fairfield Avenue, Ridge Road, New England Road, Harwin Road and Taylor Street will also be affected. James has apologised for any inconvenience to the affected residents, saying, The Comrades Team has already dropped off notices at homes and businesses along the affected route. We greatly value the cooperation of all residents. 5 THE ECONET VICTORIA FALLS MARATHON 18 JUNE 2017: 42.2 km / 21.2 km / 7.5km - online entries will close on 2 nd June 2017 With just over a month left, get ready for this strikingly magical race of a lifetime, with spectacular panorama guiding you. A full 42.2km marathon race, 21.2km half marathon run and a 7.5km fun run is available. The marathon race route starts in the car park outside the banks/ilala Lodge entrance, then crosses over the Vic Falls Bridge, briefly into Zambia offering the social runner some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa, the route continues through the Zambezi National Park with some great views of the river, and ends at the Victoria Falls primary school. The Full Marathon is a 'double loop'. There are plenty of water points along the way to keep you refreshed, and you may even glimpse wildlife!
