1 NEWSLETTER 31 May 2017 Thank you to everyone that joined us at the Comrades Auction. Please do not forget to settle your debt if you have not done so already. You can pay into the HH account and reference it as your name+auction. Thank you to Jules for hosting a wonderful Chairlady s run this last Sunday. It was a great way of putting the Comrades runner s nerves at ease and the breakfast afterwards was delicious. Wishing our Comrades runners the very best for this Sunday. Thank you in advance to the seconders and volunteers who will be there to wipe away tears, lift spirits, cheer, make tea and all the rest. Comrades runners do not forget to bring your bags with your name and seconding point clearly marked on it to Jog and Grog as well as R50 to cover the costs of the oranges, Vaseline, chips and water that will be at each point. The pre-comrades coffee run/walk will take place at 8H00 this Saturday from Ground, beneath Harcourts.

Media Release: 2017 Comrades Marathon Road Closures The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has announced that new road closures are in place for Comrades weekend this year, in lieu of the change of finish venue. The annual footrace takes place on Sunday, 4 June Being an up-run, the race starts at 05h30 outside the Durban City Hall and finishes 12 hours later at the Home of the Golden Horse Casino, the Scottsville Racecourse. CMA Race Director, Rowyn James has confirmed the following road closures for Comrades weekend, 3 and 4 June James has asked that residents in the finish venue precinct take heed of the route changes as certain roads in the last 7km of the route will be most affected by the closure. He says, Road closures will take effect from the top of Polly Shortts to CB Downes Road (R103) direction Pietermaritzburg, as well as Gladys Manzi Road (previously Murray Road) and Cleland Road. Blackburrow Road, Fairfield Avenue, Ridge Road, New England Road, Harwin Road and Taylor Street will also be affected. James has apologised for any inconvenience to the affected residents, saying, The Comrades Team has already dropped off notices at homes and businesses along the affected route. We greatly value the cooperation of all residents. A full 42.2km marathon race, 21.2km half marathon run and a 7.5km fun run is available. The marathon race route starts in the car park outside the banks/ilala Lodge entrance, then crosses over the Vic Falls Bridge, briefly into Zambia offering the social runner some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa, the route continues through the Zambezi National Park with some great views of the river, and ends at the Victoria Falls primary school. The Full Marathon is a 'double loop'. There are plenty of water points along the way to keep you refreshed, and you may even glimpse wildlife!
