2 WELCOME HEADMASTER: Mr. TM Kershaw It is indeed our great pleasure to welcome you all to our annual Interhouse Championship Gala this evening. It is our sincere hope that all swimmers attain personal best performances and that all swimmers attain the very high goals that they have set for themselves. I am sure that all of us will enjoy this evening s gala and that records will continue to be set at even higher levels. Good luck to all of the swimmers and we hope they enjoy the evening. I know that all of us will take a great deal of pleasure out of the swimmers performances this evening. I hope that Parents, spectators, Staff and other visitors here this evening enjoy the gala. WELCOME HEAD of AQUATICS: Mr. S La Marque The future of Glenwood Aquatics is looking bright. Far too often lip service is paid to goals and strategy. However there is nothing better than seeing the execution of these goals on a weekly basis. The intensification of our five year plan is producing distinct enthusiasm amongst our swimmers and water polo players. For the first time in many years we are able to produce an u14d water polo team. Our morning swimming sessions are enjoying healthy attendances, with all lanes being regularly full. Applications from prospective parents of SSA Level 3 swimmers seeking enrolment for 2014 are also being received. This comes down to enthusiasm shown by staff and boys alike. To Mr. Graham Hill and the aquatics staff, we say a huge thank you. Tonight s Championship Gala is going to generate fierce rivalry in every age group. But we would expect nothing less from a Glenwood boy. Our SSA level three swimmers are going to be tested by their classmates and this we hope could see several new records set. We trust that you will enjoy the experience. SPECIAL GUEST: Mr. Derek La Marque Derek La Marque (Class of 1979) Derek La Marque is a proud product of Glenwood High School in the class of During his tenure here at Glenwood, Derek was an outstanding scholar and sportsman. He represented KZN in the following disciplines: Rugby, Water Polo, Swimming, Life Saving and Soccer. He also represented South African Schools in Rugby and Water Polo, Captaining both teams in his Matric year. Derek went on to represent Natal and Transvaal at Rugby and represented and captained South Africa at Water Polo from 1979 (his Matric year) until He is married to Alex and has four daughters. Currently Derek lives in Cape Town where he runs two successful businesses and has a farm in Swellendam
