The 2015 championship consisted of 10x10km laps around the northern Dutch town, which had last hosted the World Championships in It was also the 40 th running of this race in the town which embraces the event with street parties to cheer on the runners. Sue had started out with a clear pace plan with the intention of bettering her BMAF W40 record of She stuck to her plan covering the first 10k in Through the next 70k her splits were very consistent 45.26, 45.21, 45.43; 45.23; 45.52; 45.43; After the first 10k lap Sue was 20 th and then slowly moved through the field and by 80k she was 8 th. Slowing slightly over the last two 10k laps in and Sue finally crossed the finishing line in 10 th place a huge 8 minute improvement to record The European and World Masters championships were also held in conjunction with the World event and Sue s performance saw her 7 th in the European and 2 nd in the World Master W40 championship. Her time improved her BMAF W40 record and also moved her up to 5 th on the all time list. Such was the quality of the race that no fewer than 16 women broke the 8hour barrier, the most ever in a race. Additionally, five national records were set and the ladies race winner, Camile Heron from the USA ran the fourth fastest time ever by a woman athlete. CONGRATULATIONS SUE!! Thanks to Les Barnett (coach) * * * * * * * * * * We are pleased to report that Rebecca Harrison was awarded a vest when she became the 200 th member to join the Facebook group.

5 Mick Smedley Also an accomplished bike racer shares his other interest with our readers Back in the mists of time, 1970 to be precise, I decided to finish my Motor Cycle racing career, which had filled my life for the previous 6 years, due to marriage planning for a family etc: Leathers and machinery were all sold off, my helmet was retained and is currently, yes you guessed it, in the loft. In 1964 having hand built a 125cc BSA Bantam from a frame from the then disused Derby Canal, I progressed to being in the top 6 in the country. Then I had the chance to ride a locally built 8 speed Yamaha, the brain child of Brian Woolley a stock producer of Shep shed. Brian also had many other machines one of which was an ex works East German Kriedler of 1961 vintage, which I also rode. After few seasons of mixed success I was given the chance to ride the Yamaha in the 1969 Ulster G.P. on the road circuit around Dundrod, just outside Belfast. During this race, which included two days of practice also, I found myself pitted against the works machinery entered by world 50cc Champions of East Germany's Kriedler, Spain's Derbi not to mention exotic bikes from Holland, the worlds mecca of 50cc racing at the time, which was quite an eyeopener. My lap speed was an average of 67 mph, which was up top for a private machine, however the Works bikes were lapping the 7 mile lap at 81 mph. In 1981, having watched the first London Marathon on the television and missing the adrenalin boost of competition, I decided to try running with the aim of running in the 1982 race, which I did (3hr 36min) eventually reaching 2hr 46min in 1986, and after many, many years of athletics the rest is history. At the beginning of this year I heard from an ex-racing friend of mine (Motor Cycle), of some machines going for auction and guess what, yes one was a 1978 ex works 50 cc Van-Veen Kriedler which he had been British Classic Champion on for two years. I couldn't resist the opportunity. The machine which came with many spares is a watercooled 6 speeder which revs up to 16,000 rpm (the rev counter starts at 8,000), is capable on a good day of 120+ mph I bought it with an excited handshake. So that's it, after 46 years I will be racing again, which brings me to the number 46, yes it is the number used by the current Moto GP rider Valentino Rossi, which he has used since he started. I am, together with many thousands of others a great follower of Valentino. Don't get me wrong I don't profess to be a Rossi, but I wonder if he will be still racing at the age of 68? Mick Smedley

We have found everyone in Hayle which is a World Heritage site very friendly there is a lot to learn about the history of the place and there is a very good Heritage Centre in the town. It has been a huge relief that I can relax a bit more now we have settled in down here, although I do miss you all. Bernie and I are walking more and have both lost a few pounds, which I assume is good for us. My son-in-law ran the Eden Marathon a few weeks ago so running has not dissappeared completely from our lives. After our move, there was a certain amount of chaos as you can imagine and the Gift Card that you generously presented me with (that I had put in a very safe place!) couldn't be found anywhere, much to my consternation. Last week I found it and after consideration we decided to order online a Kindle Paperwhite. The gift was and is very much appreciated. I shall continue to keep up to date with MMAC through the website and Facebook Group INDOOR INTER AREA 28 FEBRUARY 2016 LEE VALLEY If any members are interested in competing for MMAC at the Indoor Inter area match, please contact Elaine Mee jandemee@btinternet.com with your PB and which event(s) you would like to take part in. Application does not necessarily mean that selection is automatic.
