Army, Lafayette and Navy all went right to work, delivering postseason-qualifying performances in seasonopening meets over the last two weeks. Army s Jessica Waggoner and Lisa Junta each qualified for the ECAC Championships and were honored by the Patriot League in the first set of weekly outdoor track awards. Waggoner was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career and Lisa Junta was named the Female Rookie of the Week after earning three Rookie of the Week awards during the indoor track season. Waggoner was fifth in the discus (152-4) on March 16 at the Bulls Invitational, and second in the discus (145-0) Saturday at UVA. Junta placed first in the 5,000 at UVA with a time of 17: All three performances met ECAC standards. Lafayette led the League, sweeping the three men s weekly awards after competing at the Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C. Jerome Rudolph, who was seventh in the 100 with an IC4A time of seconds, was named the. Chris Luna placed fourth in the javelin (212-3) and freshman teammate Kevin Seery placed fifth (200-7), both qualifying for the IC4A championships. Luna was named the and Seery was named the. Navy s Brigid Byrne was the final weekly award winner, being named the Female Track Athlete of the Week after finishing first in the 5,000 (17:25.07) at the Navy Invitational. Her teammate, Lauren Allam, had a first-place finish in the discus with an ECAC qualifying distance of The Navy men have produced several IC4A qualifying performances in the early going, highlighted by Cody Rome s first-place finish in the 5,000 (14:25.58) at the Navy Invitational and Miles Snelgrove s pair of firstplace finishes in the javelin at Point Loma Open and at Navy Invitational. Freshman Mark Vetere, who was the Rookie of the Meet at the Patriot League Indoor Championships, met an IC4A standard in the pole vault on Saturday with a height of American, Army, Bucknell, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy are all in action this weekend. Army s Jessica Waggoner was named the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week after a pair of ECAC-qualifying performances. Patriot League Notebook ustfccca region poll to come out april 3 The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association will release its first regional poll on April 3. The regional team index uses data provided by Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) for only the 2012 indoor season and is a reflection of a team s all-around strength. The regional team index is scored using the current national-team ranking formula as if there were separate regional championships across the country preseason poll Bucknell is favored to make it three straight. The defending champion Bison were selected first in both the men s and women s Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Polls. The preseason poll is voted on by the head track and field coaches and sports information directors in the Patriot League. Bucknell, which has swept the last three men s and women s outdoor championships, is coming off a sweep of the indoor championships. The Bison men and women both received 94 points and 10 first-place votes in their respective preseason polls. Navy placed second on the men s side with 89 points and six first-place votes, while Army was voted third with 75 points. Lehigh followed in fourth Continued on Page 2 1

Navy also placed second in the women s poll with 89 points and six first-place votes. Lehigh followed in third with 73 points, and Army and Holy Cross tied for fourth with 48 points. Colgate trailed close behind in sixth with 48 and Lafayette garnered 40 points to place seventh. American was last with 14 points. The 2012 Patriot League Championships will be held on May 4-5 on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass Outdoor Championship Recap It took 19 years for Bucknell to duplicate its inaugural sweep of the Patriot League Men s and Women s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. It took only one to triplicate it. The Bucknell men scored 186 points and the women had to win the 2011 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex. Bucknell coach Kevin Donner was named the Men s and Women s Coach of the Year. The Bucknell women now have 12 titles after beating out indoor champion Navy, which scored 164 points. Lehigh had a strong start to the championships, but finished with 84 points to place third. Lafayette was fourth (64) and Holy Cross was fifth (62). Army (60.50), Colgate (31) and American (26) rounded out the women s standings. The Bucknell men won eight events to win their third title in school history. Army finished second with 157 points and Navy was third with Lehigh (91), Lafayette (49), American (36.50), Colgate (16) and Holy Cross (14) round out the men s standings. Justin Hicks was one of three Bison to pick up points in the 100 dash, winning the individual title with a time of seconds. Army s Alfred McDaniel finished second (10.69). The Bison continued their strong showing in the sprints with Isaih Bell (21.43) and Hicks (21.59) finishing second and third in the 200 dash behind the winner, Lafayette s Nick DeRosa (21.42). Rob Arent, who was named the Male Track Athlete of the Meet, won the 400 dash (48.50), edging out Navy s Alexander Jackson (48.75). Arent also won the 400 hurdles (53.39), slipping past Army s Taylor Kensy (53.43). Bucknell continued to win with Jordan Donaldson taking the 800 title with a time of 1: Navy s Lucas Connelly placed second (1:52.00). The Bison also won the 1,600 relay with John Picardo, Dan Mularz, Justin Hicks and Donaldson finishing in 3: In the field, Luke Webster added to the two individual titles won by the Bison on the first day, placing first in the discus (48.86). Navy s Zachary Duncavage finished second (48.63). Domonick Sylve won his fourth consecutive title in the 110 hurdles, breaking his Patriot League record time of seconds with a Army also scored a win when Thomas Wagner won the triple jump (15.32). Lehigh s Stephen Tutunjian, who won the long jump, was second (15.13) in the triple jump. He was named the Male Field Athlete of the Meet. Dean Black opened up the second day s competition with a win for Navy, taking the individual title in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:09.61). Lehigh s Evans Kosgei, who won the 10,000, finished second (9:18.82). Andrew Hanko and Cody Rome added more points for Navy finishing 1-2 in the 1,500. Hanko was first with a time of 3:47.39 and Rome was second (3:49.70). Hanko also won the 5,000 title (14:30.62), followed by American s Jeff Brannigan (14:34.57). Chris Boniwell added another individual title for the Mids in the shot put (16.43). He edged out Army s Scott Geary (16.38) for first place. Lehigh freshman Patrick Ciez, who was named the Male Rookie of the Meet, won the high jump with an IC4A height of 2.09 meters, and Bucknell s Drew Fitzgerald placed second (2.09). Lafayette won the 400 relay with David Robinson, Nick DeRosa, Nick Hepp and Jerome Rudolph finishing in a Patriot League record time of seconds. On the women s side, Bucknell picked up a 1-2 sweep in the 3,000 steeplechase with Leah Goeke winning the individual title (11:03.44) and Kelly Grosskurth finishing second (11:12.12). Lafayette did the same thing in the triple jump with Joelle Neilson finishing first (11.95) and Kerriann Borke second (11.74). Army s Tonya Stallard, who won the heptathlon with 4,696 points, finished first in the 100 hurdles (14.16). The Black Knights also scored a win with McKenzie Majchrzak in the high jump (1.70). Holy Cross freshman Stephanie Okpoebo had a strong showing at the championships, winning the 100 (12.31) and the 200 (24.85). Bucknell s Sasha Hornock was second in the 100 (12.37) and Bucknell s Jennifer Zymet was second in the 200 (24.91). Zymet added an individual title in the 400 (56.12) and Colgate s Jamie King-Prunty was second (56.73). Navy s Jess Palacio, who was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet, won titles in the 800 and the 1,500. She won the 800 in a Patriot League record time of 2:07.35 and the 1,500 in 4: Her teammate, Amanda Phelps, was named the Female Field Athlete of the Meet after adding the shot put title (13.49) to her hammer throw title. The Mids made it a sweep of the major student-athlete awards with freshman Lauren Allam being named the Rookie of the Meet. She won the discus title with a distance of meters, a Patriot League record. Bucknell garnered more points in the 5,000 with Sarah Moniz finishing second (17:39.17) behind American s Octavia Rinehardt (17:36.37). Bison senior Jamie Leacock won the title in the 400 hurdles (1:03.86). Colgate s Alexandra Atkinson, Michele Miller, Arielle Moylen and King-Prunty finished first in the 1,600 relay (3:51.00) ahead of Navy s quartet of Arabia Littlejohn, Veronica Ffrench, Mansfield Murph and Palacio (3:51.83). 2
