3 ABOUT MIZUNO EKIDEN 2017 Mizuno Ekiden is the pioneer of the full-fledged Ekiden relay race in Singapore, with 2017 being its third instalment. This event aims to deliver an experience that focuses on Japanese values such as team work, performance and perseverance, with teams of four runners competing in a relay race over the same race course before finishing at a Japanese-themed Matsuri Race Village. Runners can look forward to an exciting line-up of traditional activities at the Matsuri Race Village. Be ready to experience a taste of Japan from the range of popular snacks and food! 02

4 FOREWORD About Mizuno Singapore Mizuno Singapore Pte Ltd was launched on 5 March 2014 to be nearer to our customers. The office is led by Mr. Kiyoshi Tatani, President of Mizuno Singapore. A key strategy is to act on various regional local platforms ranging from increasing retail and digital presence to elite athletes and community sponsorships. The products being introduced in this region will consist of latest Mizuno s technologies that are backed by intensive research and development without missing out on the Japanese essence and culture. Mr. Tatani is geared towards bringing the Japanese authenticity and integrating it with the local culture with a Think Local, Act Local mentality About Mizuno Corporation Mizuno Corporation is a Japanese sports equipment and sportswear company, founded in Osaka in 1906 by Rihachi Mizuno. Today, Mizuno is a global corporation which makes a wide variety of sports equipment and sportswear, for running, golf, football, baseball, volleyball, rugby, skiing athletics etc. 03

ONE sash will be given per team and it will be issued along with the race pack for Runner 1. BAGGAGE DEPOSIT Deposit your baggage at the Matsuri Race Village before you proceed to the start line. The service is operational from 3.00pm to 10.30pm. Please leave valuables at home and bring what is necessary. ARRIVAL TIME Do arrive at least 1 hour ahead of your race flag off time to avoid congestion at the Baggage Deposit Area or at the toilets. YOUR HEALTH IS IMPORTANT If you feel unwell at any time before or during the race, please do not continue racing and approach our crew for assistance. 04

6 IMPORTANT RACE DAY DETAILS INCLEMENT WEATHER In the event of inclement weather, the organiser reserves the right to delay the start of the run. If the rain occurs after the flag-off, runners are advised to seek shelter along the run route. You may continue with your run but do exercise caution. Follow us on Facebook for the latest news. MEDALS A pack of 4 medals will be issued to the runner 4 when he/she completes the race at the Athlete s Welfare Area. FOOD AND BEVERAGES AT THE MATSURI VILLAGE Reward yourself after your race with Food and Beverages available at the Matsuri Race Village. All food and beverages can be purchased using ez-link card only. No cash payment is allowed. An ez-link card can be found in the race pack. RESULTS AND CERTIFICATES Race results will be available on the event website 48 hours after the race. Race certificates will be available on the event website one month after the race. 9 RACE DAY INFORMATION Start Pen All the first runners of both km and 21.1km categories should proceed to the start line at 4.00pm. The race will flag off at 4.30pm. Information and ez-link Top Up There will be an Information Tent at the entrance of the Matsuri Race Village to provide you with the assistance you need. You may proceed to the Information Tent to top up your ez-link card for purchases at the Matsuri Village. Baggage Deposit The Baggage Deposit Area will open from 3.00pm 10.30pm. All participants are encouraged not to deposit any valuables or fragile items. The Organiser will not be responsible for any lost and/or damage to the belongings or contents deposited. Race Cut-off Times 21.1KM: 3 hours after flag off time (7.30pm) KM: 6 hours after flag off time (10.30pm) Please note that all hydration and medical points will be closed after the cut-off times. Race Etiquette If you encounter any problems during the run, please approach the event race marshals for assistance. The medical hotline number is / Please keep to your left to allow faster participants to overtake. If you encounter participants on the right side of the lane who are moving at a slower pace, please call out, On your right. As a form of courtesy, all participants are required to move to the left when they hear this. Lost & Found If you have lost or have found an item, please approach the information booth. 10 TRANSITION AREA INFORMATION Transition Run In Transition Run Out Full Marathon Change - Over Zone Half Marathon Change - Over Zone Full Marathon Holding Area Half Marathon Holding Area AWA Second and Forth runner Third runner Second and Forth runner Third runner Transition Area will open at 4.00pm. No baggage is allowed in the Transition Area. Runners must present their race bibs as a form of identification to enter the Transition Area. There will be no re-entry into the Transition Area for runners who have completed their respective legs of the race. Team will be disqualified should there be no proper change-over done between team members within the Change-Over Zone. Team members will not be allowed to race in more than one leg of the race. All second, third and fourth leg runners are required to report to the respective holding areas. Each team is responsible to estimate their own team members timing to ensure a smooth change-over process. It is advisable for the runners to report at least 10 minutes before their estimated change-over time. Go to during the race to track the progress of your team members. Just enter their bib number to find out if they are on their way back. QR codes will be available for runners to scan on race day. Please note that the time taken for change-over is calculated into the team's overall timing. Only the last runner will be able to collect the finisher medals on behalf of all the team members at the Athletes Welfare Area upon finishing the race. Transition cut-off timings: o km Full Marathon: 9.30pm o 21.1km Half Marathon: 7.00pm All third runners of the respective categories are required to meet the Transition Area s cut-off timings as stipulated above. Teams which do not meet the cut-off timings will be disqualified from the race. However all remaining runners in the Transition Area will still be allowed to complete their run. 09

12 Matsuri Race Village Activities The Mizuno Ekiden Race experience does not end with you crossing the finish line! Spread the joy with your loved ones at the Matsuri Race Village with an array of Japanese cuisine and traditional Japanese carnival games. All activities are on a first-come, first-served basis from 3.00pm pm. Please refer to the site map on page 10 for the exact location of each activity. GOLDFISH TOY SCOOPING How many toy goldfish can you scoop in one try? Challenge yourself and scoop as many as you can! Remember, care and speed is required for this game. *One try per participant. While stocks last! BOUNCY BALL SCOOPING Using a poi (paper scooper), scoop as many colourful balls as you can without breaking your poi and bring them home! *One try per participant. While stocks last! YOYO TSURI Bring your kids down and join us at the Yoyo Tsuri game! Using a fishing pole made of a paper string with a metal hook, pick as many water balloons before the paper disintegrates in the water. (For ages 8 and above only) POPCORN Kids of age 12 years and below can look forward to free popcorns at the Matsuri Village! *One pack per kid. While stocks last! 11

13 Matsuri Race Village Activities Enjoy an array of Japanese Cuisine once you cross the finish line! Do look out for food brought to you by Keisuke Ramen, Sushi Burrito, Inter Rice Asia, Beam Suntory, Asanoya Bakery, Watanabe Coffee and Queen Takoyaki! Payment for purchases of food and beverages at the Matsuri Village can only be made via ez-link cards. All participants will receive an ez-link card (with no stored value) in your runner's pack. It is highly recommended that you top up the ez-link card prior to coming to the event. There are top up terminals at the Matsuri Race Village. Minimum top up value is $5. Note: - If you are holding on to a co-branded credit or debit card equipped with ez-link card function, please ensure that you have activated your card with the ez-link function to allow for sales transaction. - As the top up terminals does not accept concession cards, it's highly recommended to top up the card issued in the runner's pack. 12

14 ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION WRIST TAG Participants/Public must present this wrist tag to Food and Beverages vendors in order to purchase alcohol. Wrist Tags are only distributed for 18 years old and above. Alcohol consumption is not allowed in public after 10.30pm. LUCOZADE MOTIVATION ZONE Motivational Zone is adapted from Lucozade's Mile 23 Takeover in London Marathon. The Lucozade Motivation Zone will be at the final stretch, cheering you on and refuelling you on race day. Families and friends can join the Lucozade ambassadors at the Lucozade Motivation Zone, boosting the moods of the participants when they feel exhausted. Together with the Lucozade booster provided at the Lucozde Motivation Zone, Lucozade hopes to help spur participants on, and overcome physical and mental barriers. 13

17 RACE TIMING- TIMING TAGS What is Net time and how is it different from Gun time? Net time (Chip time) is recorded by an electronic tag that is attached to your sash. Net time is often shorter than Gun time because Net time begins when a runner crosses the start line while Gun time starts when the gun is fired. Many runners don t cross the start line until several minutes after their official Gun time has begun. Accuracy of Net time and Gun time Net time is the most accurate run timing for personal best because it measures the exact time between a runner crossing the start line, transition point and finish line. Net time also records several important splits, providing an accurate record of a runner s pace. Gun time is used to determine race winner s results. What do I do with the Timing tag after the run? You do not need to return your Timing tag and can dispose it after completing the race. What happens if the Timing tag gets wet? The tag is completely waterproof and will work regardless of inclement conditions. How do I make sure if my Timing tag works? Each Timing tag is checked for functionality before it is distributed. 16

21 RACE RESULTS Potential Winners All team members of the potential winning teams for the 21.1km will be required to report by 7.30pm to the information booth for race results verification. Results Results will be posted on the official race website approximately 48 hours after the race. Dispute Over Results In the event of a dispute over winning timings/ results, an appeal must be lodged at the information booth within 15 minutes of the category s prize presentation. A non-refundable SGD $50 administration fee will be charged per appeal The organizers reserve the final rights to the decision over the dispute of race results. E-Race Certificates with Net Timing All finishers of Mizuno Ekiden 2017 will be entitled to an electronic race certificate with Gun time results and Net time results. The online certificate will be available for download a month after the race. 20
