1 DUA ADEELAH Pg1 This dua'a contains the articles of faith. Every faithful must recite this dua'a regularly to drive away Shaytan, and to remain firm in the true faith. A dying faithful, in the last moments of life, should recite this dua'a, or, if it is not possible, ask someone else to read it aloud for him or her, so as not to be misled by doubts which may come into the mind, or not to be depressed emotionally, because these forces together with the misleading suggestions of Shaytan, more often than not, in the last hour of life, make man die a death of an infidel or hypocrite In the Name of Allah, the Allbeneficent, the All-merciful. bismi all hi alrra m ni alrra mi بس م ٱل له ٱل رح م ن ٱل رح ي م Allah bears witness that there is no god but He, and (so do) the angels and those possessed of knowledge, maintaining His creation with justice; there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise. Surely, the (true) religion with Allah is Islam. I am the slave feeble, sinful, disobedient, needy, and ignoble shahida all hu annah l il ha ill huwa walmal 'ikatu wa ul al`ilmi q 'iman bilqis i l il ha ill huwa al`az zu al ak mu inna aldd na `inda all hi alisl mu wa an al`abdu al a` fu almudhnibu al` almu t ju al aq ru ش هد ٱل له ا نه لا ا ل ه ا لا ه و و ٱ لم لاي ك ة و او لوٱ ٱ لع ل م قاي م ا با لق س ط لا ا ل ه ا لا ه و ٱ لع زي ز ٱ لح ك يم ا ن ٱل دين ع ند ٱل له ٱلا س لام و ا نا ٱ لع ب د ٱل ضع يف ٱ لم ذ نب ٱ لع اص ي ٱ لم ح تاج ٱ لح ق ير I testify to my Benefactor, Creator, ash-hadu limun`im wa kh liq ا شه د ل م نع م ي و خا لق ي Provider of me with my sustenance, and my Honorer, as same as He has testified to Himself and the angels have testified to Him so have those possessed with knowledge amongst His servants that there is no god save Him the Lord of bounties, favors, generosity, and kindness. He is worthy of all these attributes, and He, characterized by all these sublime attributes, was All-powerful prior to the existence of might and power, and All-knowing before the origination of knowledge and reason. He has been always Authority when there was neither sovereignty nor wealth. He has been always Glorious under all circumstances. His Being is before all precedence in the pre-eternity of sempiternity. His Remaining will be after all endings without any extinction or disappearance. He is self-sufficient at the beginning and at the end and All-independent inwardly and outwardly. There is no injustice in His judgment, nor is there unfairness in His management, nor is there unfairness in His administration, nor is there any escape from His sovereignty, nor is there any shelter against His firm grip, nor is there any salvation from His punishment. His mercy overtakes His Wrath. None can escape Him when He summons. 3 DUA ADEELAH Pg3 treats absolutely equally the weak and the noble, makes capable to carry out His commands, and makes easy to abstain from His prohibitions. He does not make obedience a burden but according to one's real capacity. All glory be to Him! How manifest His generosity is! How sublime His standing is! All glory be to Him! How magnificent to seek Him is! How splendid His favors are! He has sent the Prophets in order to show His justice, and appointed successors [for the Prophets] in order to make known His munificence and grace. He has made us of the community of the Chief of Prophets, the most favorable of His saints, wa saww alttawf qa bayna al a` fi walshshar fi makkana ad 'a alma'm ri wa sahhala sab la ijtin bi alma ri lam yukallif al `ata ill d na alwus`i wal qati sub nah m abyana karamah wa a`l sha'nah sub nah m ajalla naylah wa a` ama i s nah ba`atha al-anbiy 'a liyubayyina `adlah wa na aba al-aw y 'a liyu hira awlah wa fa lah wa ja`alan min ummati sayyidi al-anby 'i wa khayri al-awliy 'i و س وى ٱل تو ف يق ب ي ن ٱل ضع يف و ٱل ش ريف م كن اد اء ٱ لم ام و ر و س ه ل س بي ل ٱج ت نا ب ٱ لم ح ظو ر لم ي ك لف ٱل طاع ة ا لا د ون ٱ لو س ع و ٱل طا قة س ب ح ا نه م ا اب ي ن كر م ه و اع لى شا نه س ب ح ا نه م ا اج ل ني له و اع ظم ا ح س ا نه ب ع ث ٱلا ن بي اء ل ي ب ين ع د له و ن صب ٱلا و ص ي اء ل ي ظ هر طو له و ف ض له و ج ع ل نا م ن و خي ر ٱلا و ل ي اء ا مة س يد ٱلا ن بي اء the best of His elite ones, wa af ali al-a fiy 'i صف ي اء و ا ف ض ل ٱلا and the most sublime of the pure ones; that is Mu ammad, may Allah send blessings and benedictions upon him and his Household. We thus believe in him, in all that to which he has called us, in the Qur' n which He revealed to him, and in his Successor whom he appointed on the Ghad r Day and to whom he referred by saying, This is `Al. wa a`l al-azkiy 'i mu ammadin all all hu `alayhi wa lih wa sallama mann bih wa bim da` n ilayhi wa bilqur' ni alladh anzalah `alayhi wa biwa iyyih alladh na abah yawma alghad ri wa ash ra ilayhi biqawlih h dh `aliyyun و ا ع لى ٱلا زك ي اء م ح مد ص لى ٱل له ع لي ه و ا ل ه و س لم ا م نا به و بم ا د ع ا نا ا لي ه و بٱ ل قر ا ن ٱ لذ ي ا ن ز له ع لي ه و بو ص يه ٱ لذ ي ن صب ه ي و م ٱ ل غد ي ر و ا شار ا لي ه ب قو ل ه : "ه ذا ع ل ي" I also bear witness that the Imams the pious wa ash-hadu anna al-a'immata al-abr ra شه د ا و ا ن ٱلا ي م ة ٱلا ب ر ار

4 DUA ADEELAH Pg4 and benign vicegerents [of Allah] after the Chosen Prophet are: `Al, the subduer of the infidels. Following him is the chief of his sons, al- asan, the son of `Al. Then comes his brother, the grandson and seeker of Allah s pleasure; al- usayn. Then comes `Al, the [distinctive] worshipper [of Allah]. Then comes the Cleaver (of knowledge), Mu ammad. Then comes the veracious Ja`far. Then comes the suppressor of rage, M s. Then comes the pleased, `Al. Then comes the pious, Mu ammad. Then comes the refined, `Al. Then comes the pure resident of `Askar, al- asan. Then comes the Argument, Successor, Assumer, Awaited, Well-guided, and Expected on account of whose existence, this world is kept in existence, on account of whose blessing, the created beings are provided sustenance, and on account of whose existence, the earth and the sky are kept in firmness. Through him, Allah shall fill the earth with equity and justice after it will be filled with inequity and injustice. 5 DUA ADEELAH Pg5 the obedience to them is commissioned [by Allah], to love them is necessary and pre-ordained, and to pattern after them will definitely achieve salvation, but to oppose them will definitely bring about destruction. They are, moreover, the chiefs of all the inhabitants of Paradise, the interceders on the Judgment Day, and, undoubtedly, the leaders of the inhabitants of the earth, and the best of the satisfied Successors [of the Prophets]. I also bear witness that death is certain, the interrogation by Munkar and Nak r in the grave is certain, the raising of the dead is certain, the final assemblage is certain, the Discriminating Bridge is certain, the Scales [of deeds] is certain, the calling into account is certain, the record book [of deeds] is certain, Paradise is certain, Hellfire is certain, the Hour [of resurrection] will certainly come, without any dispute, and Allah shall raise up those who are in graves. O Allah, in Your favor do I put my hope, Your generosity and mercy do I expect confidently, I have no single deed by which I deserve Paradise, wa `atahum mafr atun wa mawaddatahum l zimatun maq iyyatun wal-iqtid 'a bihim munjiyatun wa mukh lafatahum murdiyatun wa hum s d tu ahli aljannati ajma` na wa shufa` 'u yawmi aldd ni wa a'immatu ahli al-ar i `al alyaq ni wa af alu al-aw y i almar iyy na wa ash-hadu anna almawta aqqun wa mus 'alata alqabri aqqun walba`tha aqqun walnnush ra aqqun wal ir a aqqun walm z na aqqun wal is ba aqqun walkit ba aqqun waljannata aqqun walnn ra aqqun wa anna alss `ata tiyatun l rayba f h wa anna all ha yab`athu man f alqub ri all humma fa luka raj wa karamuka wa ra matuka amal l `amala l asta iqqu bih aljannata و طاع ته م م فر و ض ة و م و د ته م لا زم ة م قض ي ة و ٱلا قت د اء ب هم م ن جي ة و م خا ل ف ته م م ر د ي ة و ه م س اد ا ت ا ه ل ٱ لج نة ا ج م ع ين و ش فع اء ي و م ٱل دي ن و اي م ة اه ل ٱلا ر ض ع لى ٱ لي ق ي ن و ا ف ض ل ٱلا و ص ي اء ٱ لم ر ض يين شه د ا و ا ن ٱ لم و ت ح ق و م س اء ل ة م ن ك ر و نك ي ر ف ي ٱ ل قب ر ح ق و ٱ لب ع ث ح ق و ٱل ن شور ح ق و ٱل صر ا ط ح ق و ٱ لم ي زان ح ق و ٱ لح س اب ح ق و ٱ لك تاب ح ق و ٱ لج ن ة ح ق و ٱل نار ح ق ن ٱل ساع ة ا ت ي ة لا ر ي ب ف يه ا ن ٱل له ي ب ع ث م ن ف ي ٱ ل قب و ر و ا و ا ال له م ف ض لك ر ج اي ي و كر م ك و ر ح م تك ا م ل ي لا ع م ل ل ي ا س تح ق به ٱ لج ن ة

6 DUA ADEELAH Pg6 nor do I have any act of obedience [to You] due to which I deserve Your pleasure; except that I believe in Your Oneness and Your Justice and I hope for Your benevolence and Your favor. I thus seek the Prophet and his Household, Your most-beloved ones, to intercede for me before You; and You are verily the most Generous of all those who treat generously and the most Merciful of all those who show mercy. May Allah send blessings to Our Prophet, Mu ammad and upon all of his Household, the pure and immaculate, and send upon them many many benedictions. There is no might and no power except with Allah, the All-high, the All-great. O Allah! O most Merciful of all those who show mercy, I am depositing with You this faith of mine and my firmness on this belief; and You are the ever-best of all those who keep deposits. You have commanded us to keep safe deposits that are put with us; so, (please) keep for me this deposit to give it back to me at the time of my death and at the time of the interrogation of Munkar and Nak r; [I beseech You] in the name of Your mercy; O most Merciful of all those who show mercy. wa l `ata l astawjibu bih alrri w na ill ann i`taqadtu taw daka wa `adlaka wartajaytu i s naka wa fa laka wa tashaffa`tu ilayka bilnnabiyyi wa lih min a ibbatika wa anta akramu al-akram na wa ar amu alrr im na wa all all hu `al nabiyyin mu ammadin wa lih ajma` na al ayyib na al hir na wa sallama tasl man kath ran kath ran wa l awla wa l quwwata ill bill hi al`aliyyi al`a mi all humma y ar ama alrr im na inn awda`tuka yaq n h dh wa thab ta d n wa anta khayru mustawda`in wa qad amartan bi if i alwad 'i`i faruddah `alayya waqta u ri mawt wa `inda mus 'alati munkarin wa nak rin bira matika y ar ama alrr im na و لا طاع ة ل ي ا س تو جب به ا ٱل ر ضو ان ا لا ا ني ٱع ت قد ت تو ح يد ك و ع د لك و ٱر تج ي ت ا ح س ا نك و ف ض لك و ت ش فع ت ا لي ك بٱل ن ب ي و ا ل ه م ن اح بت ك و ان ت ا كر م ٱلا كر م ين و ار ح م ٱل راح م ين و ص لى ٱل له ع لى ن ب ي نا م ح مد و ا ل ه ا ج م ع ين ٱل ط ي بين ٱل طاه رين و س لم تس ل يم ا كث ير ا كث ير ا و لا ح و ل و لا ق و ة ا لا بٱل له ٱ لع ل ي ٱ لع ظ ي م ال له م ي ا ار ح م ٱل راح م ين ا ني ا و د ع تك ي ق ي ني ه ذا و ثب ا ت د ي ني و ان ت خي ر م س تو د ع و قد ا م ر ت نا بح فظ ٱ لو د اي ع فر ده ع ل ي و ق ت ح ضو ر م و ت ي و ع ند م س اء لة م ن ك ر و نك ي ر بر ح م ت ك ي ا ا ر ح م ٱل راح م ين Many authentically reported supplications have comprised the following statement:

7 DUA ADEELAH Pg7 O Allah, I seek Your protection against deviation at the hour of death. all humma inn a` dhu bika mina al`ad lati `inda almawti ال له م ا ني اع و ذ بك م ن ٱلع د ي لة ع ند ٱ لم و ت Deviation at the hour of death stands for shifting from the right to the wrong at the hour of death. To explain, Satan attends at the hour of death in order to deceive the moribund and suggest evil to him in order to make him doubt about his religion. If Satan succeeds, he will pull out faith from the heart of the dying person. To avoid that, many supplications have comprised statements of seeking Almighty Allah s protection against deviation at death. Fakhr al-mu aqqiq n says, To escape deviation at the hour of death, one should bethink the proofs of creed in which he believes, as well as the five principles of the religion with all of their irrefutable evidences, with absolute sincerity and purity and should then trust them with Almighty Allah beseeching Him for giving them back at the hour of dying. This can be done by saying the following prayer: O Allah, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy, I am depositing with You this faith of mine and my firmness on this belief; and You are the ever-best of all those who keep deposits. You have commanded us to keep safe deposits that are put with us; so, (please) keep for me this deposit to give it back to me at the time of my death all humma y ar ama alrr im na inn qad awda`tuka yaq n h dh wa thab ta d n wa anta khayru mustawda`in wa qad amartan bi if i alwad 'i`i faruddah `alayya waqta u ri mawt ال له م ي ا ار ح م ٱل راح م ين ا ني ا و د ع تك ي ق ي ني ه ذا و ثب ا ت د ي ني و ان ت خي ر م س تو د ع و قد ام ر ت نا بح فظ ٱ لو د اي ع فر ده ع ل ي و ق ت ح ضو ر م و ت ي According to the view of Fakhr al-mu aqqiq n, Du` ' al-`ad lah along with calling its contents in one s mind grants security against the danger of deviation at the hour of death. The question whether this supplication has been reported from the Holy Imams, peace be upon them, or has been composed by a certain scholar is controversial. Concerning this, our master jj M rz usayn al-n r, a master ad thist and well-versed in the reports of the Holy Imams, peace be upon them, says that Du` ' al-`ad lah has been composed by some scholars since it cannot be found in the famous books of ad th. A similar prayer is Hifz emaan:- It is also worth mentioning that Shaykh al-± s has narrated that Mu ammad ibn Sulaym n al-daylam said to Imam Ja`far al- diq (`a) Your adherents say that Faith is of two sections; one is steady and the other depository. So, please teach me a supplication that makes my faith perfect and saves it from removal. Imam al- diq (`a) hence taught him to say the following prayer after each obligatory prayer: I have submitted to Allah being my Lord, to Mu ammad may Allah send blessings to him and his Household being [my] Prophet, ra tu bill hi rabban wa bimu ammadin all all hu `alayhi wa lih nabiyyan ر ض ي ت بٱل له ر ب ا و بم ح مد ص لى ٱل له ع لي ه وا ل ه ن بي ا to Islam being my religion, to the Qur' n being my book, wa bil-isl mi d nan wa bilqur' ni kit ban و بٱلا س لا م د ين ا و بٱ ل قر ا ن ك تاب ا

8 DUA ADEELAH Pg8 to the Ka`bah being my direction, to `Al being my guardian and leader, to al- asan, al- usayn, `Al ibn al- usayn, Mu ammad ibn `Al, Ja`far ibn Mu ammad, M s ibn Ja`far, `Al ibn M s, Mu ammad ibn `Al, `Al ibn Mu ammad, al- asan ibn `Al, and the Argument [of Allah] and the son of al- asan, Allah s blessings be upon them, being my leaders. O Allah, I submit to them as my leaders; so, make me accepted in their sight. Verily, You have power over all things. wa bilka`bati qiblatan wa bi`aliyyin waliyyan wa im man wa bil asani wal usayni wa `aliyyi bni al usayni wa mu ammadi bni `aliyyin wa ja`fari bni mu ammadin wa m s ibni ja`farin wa `aliyyi bni m s wa mu ammadi bni `aliyyin wa `aliyyi bni mu ammadin wal asani bni `aliyyin wal ujjati bni al asani alaw tu all hi `alayhim a'immatan all humma inn ra tu bihim a'immatan fa-ar an lahum innaka `al kulli shay'in qad run و بٱ ل كع ب ة ق ب ل ة و بع ل ي و ل ي ا و ا م ام ا و بٱ لح س ن و ٱ لح س ي ن و ع ل ى ب ن ٱ لح س ي ن و م ح مد ب ن ع ل ي و ج ع ف ر ب ن م ح مد و م وسى ب ن ج ع ف ر و ع ل ى ب ن م وس ى و م ح مد ب ن ع ل ي و ع ل ى ب ن م ح مد و ٱ لح س ن ب ن ع ل ي و ٱ لح جة ب ن ٱ لح س ن ص لو ا ت ٱل له ع لي هم اي م ة ال له م ا ني ر ضي ت ب هم ا ي م ة فار ض ني له م ا نك ع لى ك ل شيء قدير
