GAS COMPRESSION SYSTEM The gas compression system at HI 376 A consists of two natural gas turbine-driven Compressors (CBA-4020/4070). Both Compressors are needed for the volume of gas being compressed. The compressors each have their own safety and control systems. The Gas Compressor #B (CBA-4070) is a three stage compressor that accepts L.P. gas from the Oil Separators. Gas discharged from the Gas Compressor is sent to the Glycol Contactor. Excess dried gas not used for fuel gas and gas lift is then sent through the Sales Gas Meters for sale down the Departing Gas Pipeline (KAH- 7200). The Gas Compressor #C (CBA-4020) is a three stage compressor that accepts L.P. gas from the Oil Separators. Gas discharged from the Gas Compressor is sent to the Glycol Contactor. Excess dried gas not used for fuel gas and gas lift is then sent through the Sales Gas Meters for sale down the Departing Gas Pipeline (KAH-7200). Rev: 3 Date: 4/01/15 Page 1 of 5 HI A-376 A
A. PRE-STARTUP PROCEDURE NOTICE: Refer to Preliminary Considerations in SECTION 3, PART A before beginning any start-up procedures. APPLICABLE TO EACH COMPRESSOR: 1. Verify all vent and drain valves throughout compressor system are closed 2. Verify manual valves are open or closed as necessary to correctly direct flow to and from the compressor 3. Verify that the final discharge BDV and blow-down piping are completely open WARNING: An explosive air/gas mixture can be created inside the compressor if air is not first purged from the unit. The BDV and blow-down piping must be open during start-up to ensure that the proper purging takes place. 4. Verify that all liquid level controllers, pressure controllers and control valves are in-service and prepared for flow: a. Compressor Suction Header Piping Relief PC/PCV b. 1 st Stage Scrubber Recycle PC/PCV c. 2 nd Stage Scrubber d. 3 rd Stage Scrubber 5. Verify that the crankcase contains the proper level of oil 6. Verify that the force feed lubricator systems have been filled with oil and properly primed 7. Verify fuel gas is available at the applicable Fuel Gas Filter REFER TO: SECTION U1, PARTS A & B Rev: 3 Date: 4/01/15 Page 2 of 5 HI A-376 A
B. START-UP PROCEDURE COMPRESSOR B (CBA-4070): 1. Startup the Compressor Engine: a. Lower RPM s pressure gauge to 5 psi b. Pull and Hold run relay c. Pre-lube for 5 minutes or until permissive to start d. Ensure that all class A shutdowns are clear e. Turn Whitney valve to Start, after engine starts, turn valve to the OFF position on A Compressor f. Pull the pull to start relay after engine starts release relay to disengage starter on B Compressor g. Check oil pressure on engine and compressor h. Warm up and check for any fluid leaks or abnormalities 2. Load the Compressor: a. Bring speed up to 890 rpms b. Ensure the manual suction valve is in the closed position c. Pull the Pull to Open Suction Valve relay d. Open manual suction valve and let suction come up to 60 psi, allow compressor to purge for 1 min e. Pull the Pull to Close relay to close the BDV f. Monitor and place safety devices in service as they clear Rev: 3 Date: 4/01/15 Page 3 of 5 HI A-376 A
COMPRESSOR C (CBA-4020): 3. Startup the Compressor Engine: a. Push in the In-Run/Out-Stop relay b. The Pre-Lube pump run status indicator will indicate ON c. When the Pre-lube Complete, status indicator turns green, you will get a permissive to start indicator d. Ensure that all class A shutdowns are clear e. Wait for Ignition Status indicator to signal ON f. Wait for Fuel Gas Status indicator to signal OPEN g. Press and hold the Push to Start button to engage the starter h. Once engine starts and all class B indicators have cleared, you will lose the Permissive to Start indication and will obtain a Permissive to load indication 4. Compressor loading: a. Pull the Pull to Open Suction Valve relay b. Let suction come up to about 60 psi, allow compressor to purge for one minute c. Pull the Pull to Close relay to close the BDV d. Class C indicators will become active after all class C PSL s have cleared 5. Immediately begin using Normal Operating Procedures to continue monitoring system REFER TO: SECTION 5, PART G Rev: 3 Date: 4/01/15 Page 4 of 5 HI A-376 A
C. SHUT-DOWN PROCEDURE NOTICE: Refer to Preliminary Considerations in SECTION 4, PART A before beginning any shut-down procedures. COMPRESSOR B (CBA-4070): 1. Push the Push to STOP relay on the Compressor Panel a. Suction and Discharge SDVs will close b. Verify all SDVs are closed Verify that the BDV is open and compressor is completely de-pressurized c. Close manual valves as necessary to further isolate the compressor COMPRESSOR C (CBA-4020): 2. Pull the In-Run/Out-Stop relay on the Compressor Panel a. Suction, Side-stream and Discharge valves wills close b. Verify all SDVs are closed Verify that the BDV is open and compressor is completely de-pressurized c. Close manual valves as necessary to further isolate the compressor NOTICE: If shut-down was performed as preparation for maintenance work, or if the cause of the shutdown requires corrective action/repair, continue with Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO) Procedures REFER TO: Fieldwood Safe Work Practices for LO/TO (Section D Chapter 5) (can be found on the Fieldwood SEMS Portal) Rev: 3 Date: 4/01/15 Page 5 of 5 HI A-376 A
