1 Paul Walters first joined Royal Rangers in 1968 as a Pioneer in Outpost 14, Catlett, Va. He joined FCF in 1976 and earned the Gold Medal of Achievement the same year. He became an Outpost Commander at 18 and has served with outposts in Maryland, Texas, and Delaware. Paul currently serves as an Adventure Rangers Outpost Commander at Outpost 48, Parkview A/G, Newark, Del. Paul has served in various FCF positions, including Penn-Del District Chapter President and Vice President, as well as Territorial Representative for the Northeast Region. Some of Paul s most significant accomplishments include numerous Pathfinder missions trips, the most recent to the nation of Columbia in August Paul has led 12 Pathfinder trips to various parts of the world and is a member of the National Pathfinders Committee. Paul comments, When I received my GMA, I took the charge to always give back more to the Rangers than I have received. I have tried to put this into practice in my Royal Rangers and FCF leadership positions. Growing up as a Royal Ranger, I have seen the benefits of this great ministry in my life. I feel blessed to be called and be a part of it. He adds, The mountain men of the fur-traders era, such as Jedediah Strong Smith, were innovators. They were ahead of their time in the development of the West. I feel we, as FCF members, are called to be innovators in the Lord s service. We shouldn t just try to portray the mountain men. We should strive to be ahead of our time as Royal Rangers and FCF members. This will help us to fulfill the purposes of FCF. 1

3 Cost The cost for each person will be $38.00 per person, which covers camp fees, insurance, Pow Wow patch, trophes, and guest speaker. The cost for an unchartered person will be $ If you have 2 or more boys from the same family, we want to discount their registration. There will be a $5.00 discount for the 2nd brother and a $10.00 discount for the 3rd brother. Fees can pile up fast when there s several in a family and we want all boys to be able to attend. Activities Commanders, all activities have been designed with fun and adventure in mind. Swimming will be available on Friday and Saturday. When swimming, your Rangers must be accompanied by a Commander. 3

4 When You Arrive This year we will all be camping together. As you arrive you will be assigned your campsite. This will allow for more fellowship and unity. Since this year s theme is FCF we would ask if possible to make your campsite as FCF as possible. We will judge the campsites an award a prize for the most authentic. The OHIO ROYAL RANGERS has decided to take on the Catapult 700 project to establish Rangers in Africa. We are asking all outposts to participate in this project. Bring your offerings to Pow Wow so we can reach our goal of $10,000. 4

9 POOL RULES AND REGULATIONS Heartland Conference Retreat Center Thank you for keeping Heartland Conference Retreat Center a smoke and alcohol free environment across the entire grounds of 356 acres. 1. Modest swimwear is required by anyone using the pool and surrounding area. Ladies and girls must wear modest one-piece bathing suits. Men and boys must wear modest swimming trunks. At each swimming session at least one person from each group renting the pool needs to monitor the bathing suits upon entrance to the pool area. Lifeguards should not be distracted by having to monitor the bathing suits. 2. A cover-up (not a beach towel) is to be worn to and from the pool area. The cover-up needs to be worn over bathing suits and swimming trunks anywhere on Heartland property when not at the pool area. 3. Swimming is allowed only when there are lifeguards on duty at the pool. 4. Each hour the lifeguards are required by law to take a 15 minute break. All swimmers must exit the pool during the required breaks. 5. Shoes or sandals must be worn at all times on Heartland property. 6. No food or drinks are allowed inside the fenced area. Food and drinks are permitted outside the pool area. 7. Diving Area: Only those who pass the swimming test and have a valid wristband are permitted in the diving area. Anyone in violation of this rule will lose all pool privileges, possibly for the remainder of the scheduled event. No backward dives or flips. No swimming in the diving area. Swim to the ladder, not under the ropes. Wait for the person in front of you to get to the ladder before diving. Jump off the diving board forward, not to the side. 8. Swim Test Rules: You are required to swim the width of the pool on one side without stopping and swim the front crawl. 9. General Rules: No Running, horseplay, pushing, shoving or pulling people into the pool. No jumping or diving off the sides of the pool at any time. No food or drink inside the pool area. Stay in area of pool where you can touch bottom. No flotation devises that have a hole in the middle, such as inner tubes. 10. Above all the lifeguard s decision in any matter is final and will not be disputed with the patrons. 9

Each participant and/or their custodial parent/guardian must read, complete, sign and submit this agreement to Heartland so that Heartland receives all completed and signed forms at least one business day before the Event Date. Without an appropriately signed form delivered to Heartland in advance, the individual will not be permitted to participate in the Program. I have read, and do understand, the Participation Is Voluntary statement accompanying this form. I understand that my/my child's participation in all activities offered by Heartland Conference Retreat Center (Heartland) is based on the Participation Is Voluntary philosophy. These activities include, but are not limited to: High Ropes, Zip Line, Paintball, Team Challenge, Group Problem Solving, Archery, Night Hike, Nature Center, Large Group Game, Orienteering, Living History, Wagon Ride, Bird Blind, Climbing Wall and Wilderness Rush. I recognize that the Heartland Activities are designed to utilize experiential and engaging teaching techniques, and that my participation is purely voluntary. At all times I will choose my level of participation in any activity, and I agree to follow all guidelines and instructions as presented. I do understand that the staff of Heartland have received extensive training, and will work to protect the emotional and physical safety of myself/my child. I understand that participation in Heartland activity in which I/my child have enrolled, may entail certain risks. I elect to participate in spite of these risks. I do understand that safe participation in Heartland Activities requires reasonably good health, and I certify that I have/my child has no medical, emotional and/or physical conditions which could interfere with my/my child's safety in this activity/these activities. I grant to Heartland and all persons acting through them, the rights to use, reproduce, assign, and/or distribute photographs, films, videotapes, and sound recordings of myself/my child for use in materials they may create. I have read and do understand and accept the terms and conditions stated herein and acknowledge that this agreement shall be effective and binding upon my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and estate and for all members of my family, including minor children. Therefore, for myself/my child, I knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks involved in my/my child's participation, and do hereby release and promise to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless, Heartland and its members, trustees, officers, employees, volunteers, independent contractors, and agents from any and all liability, damages, costs and expenses arising out of or relating to bodily or psychological injury, or loss that may occur as a result of participation in Heartland Activities, whether such injury arises out of the negligence of Heartland, myself/my child, or otherwise. 14 Campsite Clearance Checklist Senior Commander, please check your entire area for cleanliness. After checking and signing the following form, have it signed by your Area / Sectional Commander, or his designate. CHECK LIST ITEM CHECKED 1. All paper, food, string, cans, etc., picked up. 2.
